matt__rose··on Burning Man Airport FAQ
Also, the first point in the FAQ is wrong. The airport guys don't mind commercial aviation at all, and in fact, have a list of charters on their website http://www.portofentry.org/?page_id=2 The second point is mostly wrong, in that the airport tie-down area is outside the trash fence, but definitely inside the BM closure area, and anyone inside that area will get noticed and caught by either the BLM or BM Perimeter crew.

I don't even think you need the french press. My method for making fantastic coffee is simple Buy fresh-roasted beans Grind, then immediately.. Throw in a standard drip coffee-maker. Have my morning shower. Enjoy

matt__rose··on South Sudan: Vroom, Vroom In The Bush
I have personally driven landcruisers at very high speeds, over the roughest african bush roads you can find. They're like tanks. Land Rovers are the only cars that hold a candle to them.
matt__rose··on Too Many Cops Are Told They’re Soldiers Fighting a War. How Did We Get Here?
David Simon and Ed Burns wrote the following passage for the TV show, "The Wire" spoken by Bunny Colvin:

<<<< I mean, you call something a war and pretty soon everybody gonna be running around acting like warriors. They gonna be running around on a damn crusade, storming corners, slapping on cuffs, racking up body counts. And when you at war, you need a fucking enemy. And pretty soon, damn near everybody on every corner is your fucking enemy. And soon the neighborhood that you're supposed to be policing, that's just occupied territory. >>>>

This was written in 2004. With the passage of time, it seems more and more prescient.

No, you're very lucky to live in the Netherlands.
matt__rose··on Seth Vidal, creator of yum, killed in hit and run accident
No, it can't. Not in any physical sense. If a car swerves and hits a cyclist at 30kph, the cyclist is almost certain to be injured, if not dead. If a bike swerves and hits a car, they might scratch the paint. When will the false equivalences end?
