mateus1··on [dead]
I think this post is useful, since I had no idea Israel attacked a US ship and killed 34 crew members during the Six-day war. You seem to be engaged in astroturfing.
mateus1··on [dead]
Are you implying we shouldn’t discuss historical events that paint Israel in a bad light?
mateus1··on ChatGPT Edu
Google offered my Uni free unlimited storage forever a few years ago.

Students are now scrambling to migrate, turns out forever at Google is a lot shorter than you think.

mateus1··on Google Search SEO document leak reveals how company curates internet
This is not actionable, but certainly demoralizing for those of us working for years in SEO.
mateus1··on I got tired of hearing that YC fired Sam, so here's what actually happened
I should’ve phrased it better. It seems like many people think those in power are entitled to some moral leniency when they should face higher scrutiny.
mateus1··on I got tired of hearing that YC fired Sam, so here's what actually happened
Weird times when moral relativism is saved for the rich and powerful instead of the poor and meek.
mateus1··on Google releases smart watch for kids
I know crime exists, I just don’t think it is so prevalent that we should poison our lives with paranoia and lack of privacy. I’d rather my kids raised on freedom and self reliance.

But these are personal preferences, I’m not imposing this on anybody.

mateus1··on Google releases smart watch for kids
I don’t buy that tracking kids is necessary or increases their safety. This seems to be an American phenomenon.
mateus1··on What Scarlett Johansson vs. OpenAI Could Look Like in Court
It’s not just a matter of the voice being a 1:1 match with Johansenns’s or that it used it as an input to build the model. What is definitive is that Open AI intently based this on the film Her as per docs and tweets && they used her voice similarity after being declined more than once.
mateus1··on If A.I. Can Do Your Job, Maybe It Can Also Replace Your CEO
I wouldn’t be so optimistic that most CEOs deliver any value.
mateus1··on New BYD Hybrid Can Drive Non-Stop for More Than 2k Kilometers
I don’t think this is meant for general appeal, it is a very intelligent BYD flex to show that hybrid cars can have long range and that they can beat their competitors in one more metric.
mateus1··on New BYD Hybrid Can Drive Non-Stop for More Than 2k Kilometers
I don’t think you have the right figures.

A quick online search has the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid as the highest range hybrid at 670 miles (1000km so half BYD’s figure), with a 50L tank that would put at a 5l/100k.

So it has double the range AND double the efficiency of the current highest range, costing half the price… seems like a very big deal

mateus1··on AI headphones let wearer listen to a single person in a crowd by looking at them
Very interesting, concept. I have a friend with seeming no hearing issues that has to cup his ears when in louder environments such as bars, restaurants, etc. I’m wondering if anyone here has a solution to that.
mateus1··on New BYD Hybrid Can Drive Non-Stop for More Than 2k Kilometers
Seems like you’re in the market for a hybrid bladder.
mateus1··on Ex-OpenAI board member reveals what led to Sam Altman's brief ousting
This is the literal definition of a slippery slope. Letting billionaires, who already wield extreme power, break laws and skirt regulations is the opposite of a free market.
mateus1··on Ex-OpenAI board member reveals what led to Sam Altman's brief ousting
That is not a correct use of ironic.
mateus1··on Show HN: Openkoda – Open–source, private, Salesforce alternative
Nothing can be a drop-in replacement for Salesforce as it is designed almost exclusively to lock-in customers.
mateus1··on Nonconsensual AI Porn Maker Accidentally Leaks His Customers' Emails
Just because some behavior can be imagined does not mean you should be able to carry it out in real life.
mateus1··on Nonconsensual AI Porn Maker Accidentally Leaks His Customers' Emails
Art is not above law. In the same way you would not feature children in this “art”.
mateus1··on Nonconsensual AI Porn Maker Accidentally Leaks His Customers' Emails
You’re removing the keyword AI. This is in the context of using replicating someone’s appearance specifically for porn using their images as an input.
mateus1··on Nonconsensual AI Porn Maker Accidentally Leaks His Customers' Emails
For one, you don’t create that person out of thin air using their likeness.
mateus1··on Nonconsensual AI Porn Maker Accidentally Leaks His Customers' Emails
I’m not in the US, pretty sure this is illegal already here.
mateus1··on Nonconsensual AI Porn Maker Accidentally Leaks His Customers' Emails
Nonconsensual AI porn is both defamation and a violation of the person likeness’ rights. It should be banned.
mateus1··on Don Knuth's MIP, 64 years later
What bothers me about this use case is that AI will generate the most generic middle-of-the-road illustration that adds no insight or value to the prompt. I’d get a better kick if he just wrote a description like “I can only imagine them debugging this while sitting beside a room-sized mainframe with a plethora of wires and bulbs”
mateus1··on Ozempic keeps wowing: trial data show benefits for kidney disease
While I agree we should have a greater focus and regulation this kind of “drugs are bad” moralism is a real pain in the ass. Obesity is a complex drug and we should have many different approaches to fight it effectively.
mateus1··on Retired detective: We got it wrong in Robert Roberson's death penalty case
Death penalty in the US seems like a remnant of slavery more than anything else. I guess the same could be said for much of the US government (polices, judicial system, etc)

mateus1··on WinDirStat – Windows Directory Statistics
It is a directory view coupled to a tree map view of folders where the area is proportional to their size.

Navigating the directory view highlights the corresponding area on the tree map.

Files are color coded according to their type.
