matchbok3··on Seattle public schools shuts down gifted and talented program
Tell people they are special? Are you joking or just uninformed?

These programs provide challenging material to kids who are more capable while leaving room for teachers to create more appropriate coursework for everyone. Do you think those kids should just nap all day?

Your preferred system seems to be to lower the standards instead of raising everyone up. Interesting, I wonder why.

matchbok3··on Seattle public schools shuts down gifted and talented program
Quite amazing how progressives continue to try to dismantle public education in the name of "equity". This will just push more to private schools, further harming public education.
matchbok3··on Kids These Days
Absolutely incorrect. Do you really think the majority of people lived on an acre of arable land providing bountiful vegetables year-round? Do you know what a "tenement" is? Do you know how many people had indoor plumbing in 1960? How many died of the measles?
matchbok3··on Kids These Days
Do you know how many people went to college in 1960?

Do you know how many households didn't have indoor plumbing?

Do you know how many people died of measles?

You are cherry picking a few data points to paint a very, very rosy picture of a reality in which the vast, vast majority of people were living a life much, much poorer than even a poor person today.

matchbok3··on Kids These Days
Shortchanging? Do you have any idea what a "typical" middle class lifestyle was like in the 1960s? (Not the romanticized one). Do you think they were eating organic avocados?

Life and technology and healthcare and many other things are objectively better in many, many ways.

Have you ever heard of leaded gas?
matchbok3··on Highest-ever ocean temperature measured as powerful El Niño forms
Sorry, I have no idea what you are referencing or what person you are talking about. Please stay on topic. Did you respond to a different post by accident? What is your contribution?
matchbok3··on Highest-ever ocean temperature measured as powerful El Niño forms
Thanks for reporting my comment instead of engaging. Great contribution!
matchbok3··on Meta reaches $17B settlement over social media harms to children
In fact I have 3 children, thanks! And controlling your child's screen time + social media is a very possible thing! It's called "raising your children".

Please stay on topic lest everyone get confused by your nonsense about unrelated topics.

People like you really do make the comments on HN quite bad. Do better!

matchbok3··on CEO fired developers to make room for AI. Developers create open source AI CEO
The world is a whole lot more complicated than the simplistic "CEOs are evil" nonsense. I suggest you talk to an entrepreneur sometime. Or, better yet, do it yourself before judging others so harshly. Or is it too hard for you?
matchbok3··on CEO fired developers to make room for AI. Developers create open source AI CEO
And they can get a new job? Or should people be in the same job all their life?
matchbok3··on CEO fired developers to make room for AI. Developers create open source AI CEO
Workers are not legally or financially accountable for any of that. That is the whole point of a "job". I think you are confused.
matchbok3··on CEO fired developers to make room for AI. Developers create open source AI CEO
Feel the heat? As in, be punished? For what, exactly?
matchbok3··on CEO fired developers to make room for AI. Developers create open source AI CEO
Number of people who think that a leader or a CEO can be replaced by AI and who themselves have actually risked everything to start a company, be a leader, or do anything similar: exactly 0.
matchbok3··on Meta reaches $17B settlement over social media harms to children
Capitalism forces parents to let their kids use their phones and social media all day?

Hm, odd. I didn't know parents didn't have authority or agency. Good to know.

matchbok3··on A look under our trunk: what's in our compute
Nobody is keeping money in anybody's pockets. What you are advocating for is a tax on NYC people to force them to use human drivers instead of new technology. Just like the toll booth operators of the 90s.

It is so disappointing to see the tech class advocate for laws that keep jobs that are unhealthy and lead to nowhere (cabbies) instead of moving the country forward (and those people getting other, hopefully better, jobs). But again, that type of short-sighted, zero-sum/socialist thinking is becoming more common, sadly.

matchbok3··on California's new tire efficiency rules could save drivers $1B a year
The argument is it's a waste of time, energy, and money that could be used elsewhere. If the creators of this law really thought this would change behavior, they would put a "review" into the law in 5 years with clear success metrics. But they don't, because this law, like many others, is all about signaling, and not results.

And no, most consumers do not care. Do you know how many people buy used tires because they can't afford new ones?

Sure, the information is more readily available. But what do you think the overlap is of people who care about very, very, very small improvements to tire efficiency and those who can't spend 10 seconds to look up the information themselves?

matchbok3··on California's new tire efficiency rules could save drivers $1B a year
So about 1% of a 1% of a market. Got it. All of the information about the tires is already available. There is no new information, just duplicated.

If a large number of consumers actually cared about their tires drag coefficient we wouldn't be having this conversation, because a large number of consumers already cared about their tires drag coefficient. But nobody does and this law will not change anything.

matchbok3··on California's new tire efficiency rules could save drivers $1B a year
What a silly law. If a tire is "inefficient" and therefore "bad", why can't California just ban the sale of them? Instead there will be a new government funded office and rating system with "leaf" icons that 95% of consumers will ignore completely.

Like all types of laws like this, the "$1B" claim will never be reviewed or judged to see how accurate it is. (It's not, at all)

matchbok3··on Why must a socialist also be woke?
Please look at the border crossings by year, and the asylum nonsense and get back to me champ.
matchbok3··on Why must a socialist also be woke?
What an odd view of your fellow citizen. To simplify their aspirations as simple fear rather than a complex, human, genuine need. My only question if this: is this tactic working for your side? Given your historic loses to horrible people (Trump) and the general public rejecting your policies (open borders, identity politics, etc), do you think it's the right approach?
matchbok3··on Why must a socialist also be woke?
Weird, given how more non-whites voted for the GOP last time around. It's almost as if things are not as simple as you are hoping them to be.
matchbok3··on Flutter 3.47
Right, but, nobody uses it. So what's the point for Google?
matchbok3··on Microsoft Responds to Outcry After Quiet Enterprise Install of Beta 'Photos' App
It's crazy to me how MS continue to do stuff like this. Ads in the start menu, anti-user UX, spam apps, etc. Every time I think their behavior will change and I am always disappointed.
matchbok3··on More Young College Graduates Are Living at Home. Is That a Bad Thing?
> majored in literature and anthropology and had hoped for a job in book publishing

> moved back to his childhood home in the San Francisco Bay Area

And we have the reason why. This isn't about a shortage of jobs or income, it's about a generation getting an expensive degree in a low-income field and trying to live comfortably in the most expensive city in the country. One that doesn't built 10% of the needed housing to keep costs in check. This fact alone makes it nearly impossible to be independent while having a "starter" job.

matchbok3··on The UK's war on anonymity has come to America
You think XYZ Company is going to listen to some consultant telling them in a press release that they should go back into the office because some REIT needs more money in it? Why would the CEO of a tech company care at all what the value of their leased office building is? Do you understand how leases and real estate works?
matchbok3··on The UK's war on anonymity has come to America
If you are willing to believe a nonsense conspiracy like that then there is no way we could have a productive conversation.
matchbok3··on Sergey Brin has now spent $100M to fight the billionaire tax
The idea of a "one time" tax is so stupid that any person, regardless of income, should oppose it. It just makes no sense whatsoever.
matchbok3··on The UK's war on anonymity has come to America
It's 2026, the conspiracy theory that business people wanted RTO for office space value has been debunked 100 times. Such a silly, nonsense idea.
matchbok3··on Adults over 65 will outnumber children by 2029
Nobody would say we should divide the total cost of all USA highway spending by the miles driven by a suburban family to figure out what it should cost them. Or would you? Because that is the most analogous way to what you just offered. My taxes pay for road construction/maintenance/infrastructure. Is the government hiding the true cost of "road freedom"? Heck, the entire interstate system was built with government money.

What about the wars we fight for oil? Tack that onto the cost of cars. Subsidies for parking? Same thing. I could go on and on, but you'll just be embarrassed more.

lol. Can't believe you are serious. Your lack of knowledge on this subject is only surpassed by your confidence.
