masijo··on Racket: Lisp for the modern day
What would be those potential features of Lisp that Clojure is missing?
masijo··on The WFH future is destroying bosses' brains (2021)
>For anyone who feels like their soul is captured or imprisoned at work, it’s time to start looking around for a new job or a new career that you’ll enjoy more than whatever you’re currently doing. Sadly, some of us don't enjoy any job. I still have do it to pay the bills, though.
masijo··on SqueakNOS: Smalltalk as a Standalone OS (2011)
A slightly more updated (2018) revival of the same project is available here: https://github.com/nopsys/CogNOS
masijo··on Apple contractor fired after her day-in-the-life TikTok video went viral
Honestly, when I look at these types of videos I always wonder: what exactly do these people do? It seems as if their day-to-day life was to eat at fancy places, have a couple calls and enjoy a general upper class lifestyle without doing much that looks like "work". Of course, most can't really show what they're actually working on but, then, what's the point of these videos in the first place?
masijo··on Russian airlines ordered to stop selling tickets to Russian men aged 18 to 65
Yeah exactly. You're the only one inmune to propaganda, it's everyone else who is brainwashed. It obviously couldn't happen to you since you're smart, and "normal Russian people" aren't.
masijo··on Russian airlines ordered to stop selling tickets to Russian men aged 18 to 65
Yeah, blaming the population, that's totally fair. What country are you from? Are you sure you're "free of guilt"? Why even stop at war? Do you have poverty in your country? If so, why are you happily posting in HN instead of fighting in the streets?
masijo··on Your doppelgänger is out there and you probably share DNA with them

masijo··on Argentina’s black-market USD rate climbs 24% in two weeks
Well they did finance and train several members of the dictatorship's Junta[1]. Same as in other countries in the region.

masijo··on Guile Steel: a proposal for a systems Lisp
May I suggest looking into Lokko Scheme[1]? It's a R6RS Scheme capable of booting in bare metal, even has a small OS available that you can boot up in QEMU, it even runs Doom! It's a great project, check it out.

masijo··on Tell HN: Turned 44 today and I'm lost
>Oh and I wouldn't touch Ketamine...

I'm curious: why not?

Nice to hear you were able to get over it -or at least take the steps to eventually do. Inspiring honestly, keep at it.

masijo··on Clojure 1.11 is now available
I use Clojure every day at work and it's my favorite dynamic functional language. That said, I think in large projects like the one I'm working in, a statically typed language would've been better. I know Clojure has spec and other similar libraries but it's just not a replacement for static typing.

I love Clojure and would use it for small projects if given the chance but I think there are diminishing returns when you scale up, specially if you deal with a complex data structures which get encoded and decoded to JSON (messes up things like keywords).

masijo··on Ask HN: Is JetBrains Russian? Is it safe to use?
I need to stop using HN until this whole conflict ends, reading these posts is killing my brain cells at an unprecedented rate.
masijo··on Ask HN: Which open source versions of SaaS products would you like to see?
OwnCloud or NextCloud?
masijo··on In the beginning was CAOS (1988)
I'd like to hear more about GDR computers and general living. How was the education there? Do you miss any of it?
masijo··on The cybernetics scare and the origins of the Internet (2009)
If someone's interested in Cybernetics, I recommend to look at Paul Cockshott's work; mainly his book "Towards a New Socialism" were he explains why and how computers could be used in economy planification. Really interesting stuff, no matter where you sit on the "political spectrum" or whatever.

masijo··on Young People Are Anxious About Climate Change, Say Governments Are Failing Them
How are you trying to fix it? Serious question, no bad intentions meant.
masijo··on Joker: A small interpreted dialect of Clojure written in Go
This project looks awesome, though I'm a bit sad that "performance" is a non-goal as stated in the README. Clojure being able to compile to a single shippable binary is just what I need in my life. Kudos to the author.
masijo··on The World After Capital (2018)
Can't believe I agree with a political opinion in HN for once.
masijo··on Show HN: Lisp implementation in modern Java, Go, C#, TypeScript, Python
I'm curious about this way of working. Can you get a preview of all the functions in the system and how they interact with each other? How do you refactor effectively? How do you work with other people in a repository? Compare git changes and other stuff?
masijo··on On Apple’s “Expanded Protections for Children” – A Personal Story
I think a good balance between usability and privacy is to use LineageOS with MicroG (an open implementation of GApps APIs) or something like Sailfish OS.
masijo··on Functional Programming in OCaml
Too real.
masijo··on An Elixir adoption success story
I really wish there were more remote Elixir job offers. Seems like such a great productive language to use, and Phoenix with LiveView is just great.
masijo··on Onboarding to Elixir
Looks really nice, but sadly it's EU citizens only :(
masijo··on Onboarding to Elixir
If you think finding senior jobs is hard, try finding junior or mid-level Elixir jobs... I've been trying for a while (~3 years of exp with Laravel, Django, etc)
masijo··on Hy: A dialect of Lisp that's embedded in Python
This isn't an "actual" Lisp, it's just Python with S-expressions.
masijo··on The Rise of North Korea's Hacking Army
Why wouldn't they allow it, though?

masijo··on OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T seeing work for mainline Linux kernel support
Love my OnePlus 6, it hasn't aged one bit since I bought it. Glad to see development happening in an "old" but capable device.
masijo··on IHP – A Haskell web framework
IHP has a lot of potential and it's getting better by the day. The way I see it, its weakest point is the documentation: things like changing the default UI framework (bootstrap), integrating react or another frontend framework, giving more complex examples (with foreign keys i.e.), changing the URL style, exposing JSON endpoints, and so on. I also didn't like the automatic generation of controllers, views, etc that it offers, I found it quite more confusing than just manually writing them out. Maybe this is because I come from Django instead of Rails, but I still wanted to point that out: IHP is full of magic, this is both good and bad.
masijo··on Optimizing Things in the USSR (2016)
So, if the planification was on the hands of the people via direct democracy, like Cockshott proposes, then problem solved, kind of?
