Isn't this how the Jaguar fiasco came to be?
martinvol··on Ask HN: Is there a better and more affordable AI coding tool than Claude?
Haven't tried, but have you checked OpenCode?
martinvol··on What happens when your blog hits #1 in Hacker News?
Obviously it helps that the content is good, but ultimately is very hard to predict what people will find interesting. There's also a big share of luck about how the people that are online at that time react to it.
martinvol··on The Hormuz Blockade: The energy and supply chain crisis that's upon us
I guess it's also a bit after that, because that'd make reserves full and they'll start depleting day-by-day. In any way we should see prices consistently increasing.
martinvol··on How the AI Bubble Bursts
if they have the capital they can't risk but keep training, if someone comes up with a marginally better model than them then everyone will migrate and their business crashes down. Only big tech is in a position to take that risk.
martinvol··on How the AI Bubble Bursts
bubbles are created by people investing more than reasonable in something, independent of the actual value it will generate for society.

I don't think token demand will shrink because we're still just learning how to use it, demand will skyrocket. The problem is what price we'll be willing to pay for it, specially if competition keeps soaring.
martinvol··on How the AI Bubble Bursts
they have to fight to stay competitive because mag7 can outspend them, but my hypothesis is that they wont need to ultimately.
martinvol··on How the AI Bubble Bursts
yeah good point, although it's just one of all the catalysers I mentioned. I fact I had written most of the post already before I saw the news about RAM.
martinvol··on How the AI Bubble Bursts
RAM prices haven't crashed yet and it'll take time because it has to propagate within the supply chain. Micron is -20% from the top already https://www.investing.com/equities/micron-tech

Stock price is the best forward indicator I can think of

martinvol··on How the AI Bubble Bursts
> The problem with these kind of posts is that "How" is almost useless, I can tell you how the bubble pops: The value of these AI companies crash and take out a lots of other stuff with it.

That's like saying "I know exactly how you're going to die, your heart will stop"

martinvol··on How the AI Bubble Bursts
great feedback
martinvol··on Ask HN: Who got hired from HN?
I have, back in 2019, by the only startup that I applied to.

martinvol··on Show HN: I'm 15 and made a bedtime calculator with React JavaScript

Seriously are you missing optical?
martinvol··on All Of Argentina, Uruguay Without Electricity After Massive Outage
The situation in Argentina was completely different. This was a one time thing that was sorted out in 6 hours and it's very unlikely that will happen again.
martinvol··on Stripe Is Now a $20B Company
You should google power law, I think you misunderstood everything and have a chance to learn an amazing statistical concept today :)
martinvol··on What’s New in Python 3.7
It's fun that I use it every day but my linter still thinks is a syntax error :)
martinvol··on Apple has acquired Workflow, an automation tool for iPad and iPhone
I use Timely every day and it's updated regularly!
martinvol··on Cloudflare Reverse Proxies Are Dumping Uninitialized Memory
They said https never broke, so if you were doing things right way you should not be affected at all. Do not overreact.
martinvol··on Twitter discloses national security letters
Wait a minute, Do they still really use typewriters?
martinvol··on “Our primary goal is to un-fork the Tor Browser”
I broke my Chrome instance and decided to give Firefox a try, and I must say it has A LOT of usability problems compared to Google's. I'd say Mozilla has a lot to work on to avoid losing users, if they aren't already.
martinvol··on Ask HN: What is wrong with Twitter?
I do not agree. Because I don't like my family commenting on my unpopular opinions.
martinvol··on Ask HN: What is wrong with Twitter?
They notification system is broken on Android!

You receive a push notification -> You open it and see the content -> Go back to the app's feed -> the app shows your notification as unread!

It happens every single time and I changed devices and it keeps happening, my current phone is a Nexus 5X. I honestly can't believe such a well known app has that kind of bug (You wont be able to convince me that that's not a bug and it's the expected behavior).

martinvol··on Show HN: Jam API, turn any site into a JSON api using CSS selectors
The code is on Github, you can use this as a library, not as a 3rd party saas.
martinvol··on A redesign of the Django websites
I totally agree.
martinvol··on Python 2.x vs. 3.x use survey
Python 2 was supposed to be dead at least 2 years ago and still 34/200 major watched projects use it.
martinvol··on Show HN: Meet me, I'll buy you coffee
beautiful website, by the way!
martinvol··on What was your best passive income in 2014?
About $50-$100/month on http://onlyfonts.net

I'm not proud of this product by any means, but it is good for experimentation and A/B testing.

One thing that I should point out is that even if I don't write any code, I'm still thinking about how to improve it and looking at the analytics, so having a passive income is not totally free.
