I got YouTube Premium, unsubscribed from all the "funny stuff" and subscribed to makers, builders, creators, electronic, aviation, etc. channels only. I am AMAZED at what you can build right now in your own home. I am building an electromagnetic jet engine from scratch. It sounds crazy when you say it out loud but it's the 2023 equivalent of assembling model gliders from balsa wood decades ago.
Here are a few channels that inspired and helped me the most:
Fantastic explanation of how electricity/circuits/elements work:
https://www.youtube.com/@ELECTRONOOBS
https://www.youtube.com/@greatscottlab
These guys are into aviation and actually iterate on their projects:
https://www.youtube.com/@rctestflight
https://www.youtube.com/@TomStantonEngineering
These two are wizards of explaining physics and engineering:
https://www.youtube.com/@TheActionLab
https://www.youtube.com/@Nighthawkinlight
I can't even comprehend the level of engineering this guy does in his garage:
https://www.youtube.com/@StuffMadeHere
PS. If you're getting into electronics from programming it's really, I mean really easy, to do the programming bits which most makers struggle with (because they are pros in circuits and other things). A lot of the learning curve is stuff like "what is a compiler" or "how to install an IDE" which you got covered.
AFAIK there is nothing out there for East Asian languages that works as good as their romanized counterparts. They work pretty ok with text book, perfect grammar, and easy kanji material. They fall apart completely on casual human text/speech.
Do not attempt to solve this problem yourself! I'm guessing only the likes of Google and ML experts will be able to tackle this.
I noticed one of my friends (college educated and an ex FAANG executive) reading a book about astrology that basically tried to explain it with science. She made me read a chapter to prove that it's not bullshit. And it really didn't "sound" bullshit, and the author used many scientific terms and quoting papers on quantum mechanics and referring to astronomy. But once you actually tried to process the gist of it it was complete nonsense, literally zero information or stated facts. A horoscope dressed in scientific language.
e.g. laptops with matte displays and columnar layout keyboards. Think different.
Something like Soundcloud comments but for video.
Asian video platforms used to do that. Here's an example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOMMQmYwd4I
It's totally crazy but can be made much more coherent. Would be useful to have comments at a specific time and place on the screen just for very accurate pointers/comments.
I think what the market is missing is a sort of locally run CMS that is file based with Sqlite and managed completely with Git. Something that can can be moved around with project easily and have great version control.
Let's say you have a /content folder in your project that is it's own separate git repo, and there you have .md or .txt or sqlite files, and your assets, and there's a browser based client to manage it that runs locally.
- Gatsby or Next depending on how dynamic the content is
- Firebase for db, auth, and bucket storage, and sometimes hosting
- Vercel for NextJS hosting
- Recoil for state management; after years of using Redux it feels amazing, like it's a part of React
- ImmerJS for immutability
- SASS for CSS
I love my current stack. It definitely took a while to make everything work together smoothly. I don't understand the complaints about modern web dev. I've been building websites for almost 20 years and this is the most productive and fast I've ever been.
The only thing I still haven't figured out is CMS. Tried all of the fancy new headless CMSs but nothing works for me. Working on my own.
But being wrongfully accused of child abuse is probably my biggest fear as a grown man. Especially after watching The Hunt (2012) with Mads Mikkelsen. If I were ever to find a child in distress somewhere in public I would never ever try to help it in case someone caught me alone with a kid I don't know. If I see kids walking on the street I immediately change direction just to not look like I follow their path. I just can't.
It really shouldn't count as space travel unless they go into orbit around Earth.
It felt like the Internet would solve all these problems, like you'd be able to experience culture from any part of the world however you liked and at the same time as the rest of the world. Sadly that never happened. It's much better now but it still feels like the media is crippled by old local distributor deals. The fact that e.g. Netflix offers different movies for every country is something that honestly does not make any sense yet everyone accepts it.
When I got my first Kindle 12 years ago my Amazon account was registered with my local European address so the books available in store were all complete trash romance pulp novels. Once I simply changed my home address to some random location in New York I suddenly had access to hundreds of thousands more titles. The Internet never delivered on its promise.
It's open sourced and you can use it from https://yahni.news

The only time I am able to regain that "in the zone" feeling from 15 years ago is when I try some completely new stack/framework/language on a fresh project. The problem is I can't do that all the time because I've started dozens of projects and wasted years without finishing anything.
I will be monitoring this thread for any help. This is a serious problem for me.
I am not affiliated with them in any way but it's the first thing that came to mind because I read a lot about their success as the founder often shares his/hers experience of building a design agency on IndieHackers.
Of course none of my competitors using the exact same data set had any such problems.
I tried for YEARS to appeal it. There are simply no humans working at Google and nobody reads your emails.
Edit: Actually, I did get a response a couple times but it was obviously automated. They just said to remove the ads from the pages where such words are displayed. So I added a simple rule and a column in the database to hide ads for those keywords. That just triggered the bot to move down the list of their "obscene" language. Next it was the names of various sexual positions, acts and fetishes (Japanese does have a very rich vocabulary in that topic), then manga slang, even silly sounding onomatopoeias that when explained in plain English are "vulgar", etc.. It seems once your website is flagged there is simply no way get clean.
I hate glossy screens.
It doesn't have the functionality to perform custom REST calls yet but it's definitely on the list. For now you can get the basic metrics from Google Analytics, Search Console, Facebook Pages, Instagram, and Stripe. It's still very much in beta but you're welcome to try it.
