Whilst I agree that phasing out combustion engines should be a priority, I have read recently that new studies have found that a lot of the hazardous materials that are inhaled are actually particles ejected from brake pads and tires. Both of these obviously are still present on electric cars too. It will be interesting to see how this research develops and what innovations come as a result but as someone who lives near a main road, I really am getting more and more concious of the long term effects that are yet to be realised
Damn, Im sorry for your loss. School, like university, is not just about being looked after by more competent people. Its a place where you not only learn academic disciplines but also begin to understand how the real world works - social hierachies, networking and building relationships etc etc. To an extent, its what you make of it.
there is no space for gaming to evolve at the moment without VR. The only thing that next generation consoles are bringing to the table is more advanced graphics. VR offers a truly innovative space for gaming to move into and whilst its not there yet in terms of hardware and software, I can see it being 'the future' as it were.
people dont like being shown things that dispute their world view, especially on things which wield as much weight as intelligence, which is why i assume youve been downvoted. IQ may not be an exact metric of intelligence, but the correlations of IQ to success in the modern western world are too obvious to ignore, and indeed could be detrimental to ignore. Note, correlation does not equate causation, but suggests deeper research is required
unfortunately in current western society, equality of opportunity (or somewhere closer to that) will never be achievable compared with equality of outcome due to an enshrinement of identity politics in our political structure.
no idea why this has been downvoted for merely stating easily accessible facts. JPeterson often points to the fact that men tend to gravitate towards professions that involve "things" (think engineering and tech etc) whilst woman tend towards professions that involve people. Medicine for example is now woman dominated in the UK. There is no use in ignoring the fact that men and woman might gravitate towards different things in terms of interest - thats vastly different than saying that men and woman are different in terms of their intellectual ability though. As the mentioned article unsurprisingly shows
i think i saw yesterday though that the Government there is infiltrating the protest groups with agent provocateurs so i dont know what to believe anymore
bit of a flawed response really. i cant think of many subject matters that are more nuanced than middle-eastern affairs. almost nothing is black and white in this area
admittedly i havent read the whole article, only the abstract, but: assuming that children from larger families will partially inherit the trait for having larger families themselves seems like a leap to me - arent family sizes in less developed societies generally considered to be either due to religious superstition or because more children = more workers to provide for the family a la victorian times? Once these factors diminish as a society develops, I would argue (from a position of ignorance) that the "traits" governing a bigger family (fertility) are environmental rather than genetic.
If you paid for the cards they inherently have value else they would be free... Despite what many people choose to ignore, bitcoin has value - at the very minimum for illicit transactions online - its just not an as widely accepted value. Whether that acceptance will increase remains to be seen but to write it off as worthless is disingenuous
I've been using this for a couple of weeks and its a been really nice to remove the constant mental overhead of structuring code. it also makes you think about structuring functional blocks into more manageable, bite-sized chunks which is easier to understand. 10/10 would recommend
not sure youre being sarcastic or not... of course the disruption due global warming will be vastly greater than the disruption caused by trying to prevent it, that much is a given
thats quite a reductionist approach and i dont think it applies to this case. we have an understanding of consciousness by the very fact that we can experience it - i.e theres a proof of existence already. We dont have the same understanding for god. If we somehow obtained evidence for a god and then subsequently found out we were causing that god intense suffering, then i think there would be similar discussion
have to agree here. deplatforming is definitely not the answer. To use a crude but fundamental analogy, if you want to reduce the concentration of something you need to dilute it not separate it from the rest
thats quite a stance. Like it or not, there is a huge influx of migrants into the EU. Acknowledging this does not make one a xenophobe and labelling someone with that opinion causes all sorts of divisions and further issues. In fact, your rhetoric is actually one of the main drivers spurring vote leave. People with valid opinions being labelled as racist only further entrenches their beliefs that they are not being listened to
interesting. I have a pixel 3 and have experienced literally none of your issues and am really enjoying its lack of 3rd party software unlike my old samsung galaxy. In fact, this device has spurred me to fully embrace the google ecosystem
All of the things that you listed though would be solved with a vastly reduced population. Our population growth in the last 150 years alone is just absurd[0]. I agree, 10billion is just a matter of time but even if these 10 billion people lived as sustainably as possible, the lower economic countries will develop and begin requiring more and more resources. Even a fully vegan lifestyle for 10 billion people would cause a huge amount of damage in order to deforest and irrigate produce - far more damage than if world population was 500 million and living with our current western values
youre not her slave or subject really though are you? you havent been scrubbing her shoes or done anything at the request of the royal entourage im guessing. shes just a placeholder for tradition and has no say in anything. so really, it doesnt matter. stop getting your knickers in a twist over something so unimportant and irrelevant
surely confining yourself to just one would limit the reselling of your data though? i.e just 1 company, instead of multiple will be peddling your privacy to other buyers
> and if we eradicated the tiny handful that carry malaria, Zika, etc. it would only have positive results.
for humans yes - which was his point. looking at this from a human perspective is a problem. there are likely unknown consequences elsewhere in the food chain if we completely eradicate a species for our own gain
