markwaldron··on Stalking your Facebook friends on Tinder
I spent about 30-45 minutes trying to get this to work out of the box. Not sure if It's because my Python is rusty or maybe my installs are screwy. Either way, In order to get this to work, I ended up curling the tinder API to get my token.

  curl -v -X POST 'https://api.gotinder.com/auth' -H 'Content-Type: application/json' --data '{"facebook_token": "facebook_token_string", "facebook_id": "facebook_id_string"}'
With that I modified the python code to no longer POST to get the X-Auth-Token and just pasted it in there:

        self.headers["X-Auth-Token"] = 'auth_token_string'
        print("Authenticated to Tinder ")
        self.authed = True
        print self.authed
After that, everything worked fine!

markwaldron··on Ask HN: Typical work hours
I'm working at a fin-techy start up outside NYC. Hours are normally 8:45 - 19:00 with an hourish paid lunch. Very flexible though - people leave early frequently
markwaldron··on Ask HN: How long did it take you to get your first dev job?
I'm a recent bootcamp grad with a bachelor's in Comp Sci and Mathematics. After college, I spent 3 years working in IT then decided I wanted to start coding again and went to a bootcamp. I've been looking for about 3 months in the NYC area. It was going really slow at first but I started reaching out to people on HN and through LinkedIn. Now I'm currently interviewing with 4 companies. Initially, I was applying to jobs through their jobs/careers page(about 50 of them) and that only got me 2 phone screens.

markwaldron··on Paul's Online Math Notes
Paul's Math Notes got me through all of my undergrad math courses. My professor was fantastic, but having these to reference when the professor wasn't around was a much-needed asset to learning and finishing homework. I recommend this site to everyone I know taking Calculus or higher courses.

I wonder if the law will be as harsh on him as it was on the bankers they jailed.
markwaldron··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (April 2016)
I had never seen Streamable before, but it looks really awesome! I saw in your API docs that video files must be less than 10gb in size and 10min in length, but nothing about specified file types. I also saw that you're using HTML5 video element supported file types, so do you just transcode the video when it's upload and render it using those specified formats?
markwaldron··on Changing Education – How bootcamps outperform a university education
I'm a recent graduate of Fullstack Academy, and I also happen to have a bachelor's in Computer Science. While at Fullstack we didn't spend weeks on end going over object oriented design or learning algorithm design, we did have lessons on it. And I found it to be delivered in a better format than any of my computer science classes. I'm sure not all CS classes are created the same, but they are usually the same length and only a few days a week. The difference being that at a boot camp, you're there 10 hours a day, 5 days a week.

markwaldron··on American Students Know Almost Nothing About Their College Loans
Students aren't allowed to declare bankruptcy on their loans now, and if they stop paying their wages will be garnished. I think we those types of conditions the interest rate could be lowered a bit.
markwaldron··on The Joys and Challenges of Hiring Developer Bootcamp Grads
I have a bachelor's in CS and math and I'm currently attending a boot camp. Do you think having both would be beneficial once I graduate from the boot camp?
markwaldron··on [dead]
Human capital is an important aspect to take into account, but not all college graduates are coming from an Ivy league school and going directly into a job on Wall Street. I think they are trying to draw more attention to the inequality aspect of it, comparing our current situation to more prosperous times for everyone.
markwaldron··on Ask HN: How does email tracking work?
I love your username =)
markwaldron··on Ask HN: How does email tracking work?
Awesome and very informative! Thanks for the explanation. I'm starting to get a better grip on this. I found a few posts online explaining how to do this with PHP and GD. In each of those instances, do you create a unique image for each user or each email?
markwaldron··on Ask HN: How does email tracking work?
Is the HTTP request for the image or for a blank page? I'm just guessing here, but I guess a new file is created each time an email is created and then a reference to who the email is sent to is stored in a DB somewhere?
