markmm··on Top 35 Startups In Tech that TechCrunch missed out on – August 2012
Same as when they decided to get into the social networking space, FAIL! Since they just don't get it....it being getting laid.
markmm··on Status Chart: Your Professional Dashboard
It's not very clear what it does, or what it is for?
markmm··on Live From Nokia’s Windows Phone 8 Press Conference
It will fail, this is the last chance for Nokia, I expect them to go out of the smart phone business very quickly.
markmm··on Live From Nokia’s Windows Phone 8 Press Conference
Let's see how it sells compared to the iPhone 5 and Galaxy S3. Everything else is moot.
markmm··on Top 35 Startups In Tech that TechCrunch missed out on – August 2012
Haha, probably a good reason some of these were given a wide bearth by techcrunch
markmm··on Top 35 Startups In Tech that TechCrunch missed out on – August 2012
Good stuff, looks like an actual useful app.

Where my inailedthat.com startup? A website that allowed people to post pictures of the people they have slept with?

Are any of these actually making money? Or is just they have pretty names and websites?
markmm··on Galaxy S III beats out iPhone 4S as top selling device in US
What about squeezing the device as a user input method, squeezing the sides could unlock it.
markmm··on Galaxy S III beats out iPhone 4S as top selling device in US
They need to do something unique like a small always on screen on the back to show statuses.
markmm··on How a bedroom developer's 'ugly little game' became an App Store hit
Posting a link to every project you have worked on in a HN post is not really marketing.
markmm··on Recurly billing down -- some customer data lost
A catastrophe like this could destroy a company. With all the cloud providers etc there is no excuse for losing a customers data.
markmm··on Galaxy S III beats out iPhone 4S as top selling device in US
I doubt they will change the width, there must be 1000's of apps that will break or look wrong if they change that (without updating).
markmm··on Galaxy S III beats out iPhone 4S as top selling device in US
Isn't Apple looking to ban the S3 in the US? The new iPhone (based on rumour sites) is looking like just a taller version of the current.
markmm··on Benefits of basing your startup in Scotland
Ah right, I though I just sent a link to my system to a couple of rich dudes and my bank account would then become overflowing :-p

Joking aside thanks for that, looks like a great way to lplug into the funding network.

markmm··on Benefits of basing your startup in Scotland
Regarding the scaling issue, location is irrelevant nowadays. Anyone can create a massively scalable system using a laptop and an internet connection thanks to services like AWS.

I'm sure if a startup looked as if it was becoming a global hist then it would relocate to the U.S. if it wasn't bought by an existing company there first.

markmm··on Benefits of basing your startup in Scotland
These seem to be support groups or clubs rather than places to look for funding, I was thinking more Angel investors or crowd sourcing.
markmm··on Benefits of basing your startup in Scotland
I am based and from Scotland (Glasgow). I have a startup that going to be looking for a first round of funding in the next few months, anyone had experience with this? Is there an equivalent Kickstarter for the U.K.?
markmm··on I did the scariest thing I can imagine: I resigned
I think you have acted foolishly and based on your decision you might not be cut out to run a company. The best strategy would have been to develop a business with your free time after work/weekends until you make enough to support you and your family.
markmm··on When A Kickstarter Campaign Fails, Does Anyone Get Their Money Back?
My question is, why isn't Kickstarter International in terms of startups? I am based in the UK and we could do with a successful service like KS here!
markmm··on App.net Gets First Dedicated iOS App, Passes 17,500 Users
How is that different from following geeky twitter users on twitter? Other than you will have orders of magnitude more choice on twitter. I am not being a dick and trying to trash App.net but I can't see it's utility.
markmm··on App.net Gets First Dedicated iOS App, Passes 17,500 Users
The problem is most people are not devs and don't care about twitter tightening up their API rules (which is entirely up to them), I understand and applaude the idea as a developer but I can't see it rivalling twitter.
markmm··on App.net Gets First Dedicated iOS App, Passes 17,500 Users
For me it doesn't offer anything new, even if it was free why would people use it over twitter which has millions of users and content. I doubt it will succeed unless they rethink it's purpose.
markmm··on App.net Gets First Dedicated iOS App, Passes 17,500 Users
So App.NET is a twitter clone? They will need more that 17k users to compete.
markmm··on Paul Graham's Letter to YC Companies
But PG's argument is the Facebook IPO will put off investors investing in __startups__, this is the very definition of early investors, which for facebook has made a few billionaires and many millionaires.
markmm··on Paul Graham's Letter to YC Companies
I'm sure Peter Thiel wishes he could go back in time and not invest anything in Facebook, he only turned 500k into over a billion, but if the IPO went better he could have made it to 1.5 billion. I agree all those investors that might have invested in startups will be less inclined because of this. Who wants a measly billion when you could have 1.5 billion!!???
