markmm··on Will Go be the new go-to programming language?
Nice, im worried that due to Go's young age the libraries might be a bit flaky or lacking, I could be wrong though.
markmm··on Will Go be the new go-to programming language?
Yes it looks good, but what about mature 3rd party libraries?
markmm··on Will Go be the new go-to programming language?
It's all about the libraries, Python and C for example have libraries/bindings for most things, e.g. Postgresql, ZMQ, Json etc. Google could invent the best programming language ever but without _mature_ _robust_ libraries it is pretty much useless.
markmm··on Vinod Khosla: “I Feel Sad Sometimes For YC Companies That Get So Much Hype”
He is spot on, from reading this board it seems like people think you can use a formula to create a successful start-up, just follow YC's template and you will soon be running a successful company. Get a co-founder,produce a slick presentation...etc.

If your start-up is really good you should just be able to explain in in a few sentences a swift demo and your done, and if you really believe in it then you should not be going with X other cookie cutter start-ups to chase a few dollars from some company with not exactly a good record.

You should have multiple investor's lined up and you should be choosing them not the other way around.

markmm··on Applications Open for Winter 2013 YC Funding
A founder is someone who founds the company along with you, it seems you are saying people should just find a random person and call them a co-founder? Why can't there just be one founder?
markmm··on Applications Open for Winter 2013 YC Funding
If you really believe in you startup then _you_ should be handing out forms to potential investors, and you should be giving _them_ 10 min interviews. If your service/product is great then you will have potential investors lining up.
markmm··on Applications Open for Winter 2013 YC Funding
Did Facebook, Apple, Google, Microsoft, Oracle, Twitter or Dell use YC or anything similar? In my opinion YC is a business to make money out of desperate entrepreneurs.

I get "We are sorry, but it appears that your browser does not support WebGL. Please download Google Chrome and try launching this site again."

Using Google Chrome

markmm··on Ask PG: What Is The Most Frighteningly Ambitious Idea You Have Been Pitched On?
It would be good to see some stats on the number of companies per exit/valuation i.e.

50 billion 4 --- 10 billion : 100 --- 1 Billion : 10,000

markmm··on Unit Testing: Is There Really Any Debate Any Longer?
Agreed, I would focus on hiring shit hot testers and automating end to end testing if possible. Unit testing is useful for a small number of examples like a method that does complicated calculations, but I see TDD zealots writing them to test a method that simply forwards data to another layer, all designed around dependency injection.
markmm··on Ask PG: What Is The Most Frighteningly Ambitious Idea You Have Been Pitched On?
Nice, I wan't to exit for 2 Billion, but will settle at 1.5 ;)
markmm··on Full quote of what Mark Zuckerberg actually said about HTML5
HTML5 is fine, but it's for developing web UI's not mobile apps. Sure it would be nice if all the main mobile OS's used the same language and frameworks but they don't, people need to get over that and start developing natively.
markmm··on Unit Testing: Is There Really Any Debate Any Longer?
Yes come on, does anyone still think they are useful and simply not a complete waste of developer time?
markmm··on Ask PG: What Is The Most Frighteningly Ambitious Idea You Have Been Pitched On?
Did they ever make it?
markmm··on Mark Zuckerberg: Our Biggest Mistake Was Was Betting Too Much On HTML5
+1 The whole reusability thing is a red herring, it's like the whole Java run anywhere thing, it might save you duplicating UI code but the apps will look crap and run like a dog.
markmm··on Mark Zuckerberg: Our Biggest Mistake Was Was Betting Too Much On HTML5
Why isn't it as flexible? And a native app on a mobile device shouldn't try and replicate a full blown web app, it should have only the appropriate features that you would use on the go, but it should do these well and be snappy (read native).
markmm··on Mark Zuckerberg: Our Biggest Mistake Was Was Betting Too Much On HTML5
They are a bunch of PHP hackers, is it any wonder they can't write decent native apps?
markmm··on Show HN: We got tired of asking 'What browser are you using?' and created this
How many people don't know what browser they are using or OS? Pretty easy to find out.
markmm··on Do You Need To Be A Jerk To Be A Successful Entrepreneur?
Who submitted this garbage? Oh it was Garbage, we only need A players posting here in HN.
markmm··on A proposal for improving HN : it should cost a user Karma to post
I am new to HN and I think the board's post are high quality compared to some other boards. One issue I have is that it can be too serious and void of humour. I assume the blogger of this article needs to lighten up a bit.
markmm··on Y Combinator Founder Paul Graham Issues New Warning to Start-ups
Did Apple,Google, Facebook, Twitter or Microsoft use an incubator company? Why do people think they are required to be successful?
markmm··on Y Combinator Founder Paul Graham Issues New Warning to Start-ups
If Google are willing to invest in your startup then why the hell would you turn that down?, it's like turning down a BJ from a supermodel, because she demands you do it at her house.
markmm··on First Month on app.net – Charts and Stats
I was dismissive at first of app.net, but I think its great they are getting some build up of users. To have an alternative to Twitter can only be a good thing.
markmm··on Welcome to Linux From Scratch
I've built a few LFSs and Gentoo countless times, it was a great learning experience and I learned a lot of command line mad skillz that way. However I wouldn't run a server using it.
markmm··on Top 35 Startups In Tech that TechCrunch missed out on – August 2012
I can understand why people are going after the location based social thing, as foursquare is lame and there is nothing much better. But to tie it into such a specific area is insane.

Yeah I didn't think there were any dotcoms available with such common words.

I applaud their intentions but their latest effort just looks like any other smartphone only plasticier.
