You should sit on some TSLA for now also.
Edit: I'd love to hear input on why people are scared of options.
Follow my trades for the next year while you work. Trade it while working if you can. When you turn the $50K into $250K you can quit your job and trade full time and work as a white-hat and control what you do.
Okay that was the easy way out. Now the hard way.
Get certifications. Security is hot right now. Everyone needs a security person. A cert or experience signal that right now.
Network. How many meetings have you scheduled with someone in security at your current company in the last month? What are you waiting for. Message everyone at your company and ask for 10 minutes to talk about how they got where they are. The more senior their role the better it is.
Also find another job for now that won't make you hate life. Start applying. Ever heard of informal interviews? Try it out.
I worked really well with excel sheets (macros) and was able to calculate an edge from watching data which was available to me. Maybe your work has a problem you can solve and it would work for other companies.
I had to get the same data at that time, now it's easily accessible, and enough capital to implement the strategy full time.
I had to learn to program a different language which created the active income stream.
Ask yourself what do you like doing? Then work on it in your spare time. What's fun for you? For me, I wanted to make money without working hard. I also love money.
Also right now we can bring in foreign workers to staff up operations really easily so this is probably a good idea.
Your customer service probably will have to be out of the U.S. or somewhere outside of Toronto, maybe Saskatchewan.
Going to the gym helped. Happy hour at the bar. Teaching others are 3 of the best ways I found to add value.
But stop focusing on work conversations and focus on personal conversations. In my experience once you stop working with those people you won't hear from them because at work a lot of people present a false front because of the expectations required.
I.e. Focus on your conversations in general and it will take care of the lack of work conversations. You aren't really friends in many cases.
Getting into TSLA tomorrow Oct 02 $450.00 Calls with $8.00 buy stops.
But the more important thing is, do you want to have fun now? Do you want to go out, party, vacation, hit up the clubs? Or do you want to stay home, save money. Maybe buy computer gear and AR or whatever the new fads are as they come? Maybe you want to save and go on vacation 3-4 times a year. Or maybe you want to save completely, get to a $1/$2/$10/$30M and then retire and do what you want to do. So when you answer that more clearly it helps to kinda figure out what you want to do.
Now if you want to have fun and enjoy your school career, I wouldn't put any money in the market, I would just go spend it. The reason being is your career should pay well. Now are you good at it?
Are you going to go for a FAANG job or a regular job? Do you want to work for someone or start your own business? Maybe instead of investing in the market, invest in a tool, like something that is going to change how everything works, for example, you think AR is the future and VR is crap, so the first AR device can be purchased, or you want to get the first Neurolink and solve dementia or whatever.
Suppose you have decided you are going to work for someone, then you want to put the money in the market somewhere and don't want to learn any new tech because you are focusing on school. YOu have to decide, do I want to swing for the fences or use a lazy portfolio. So if it's the former you can buy stocks that are the next AAPL like TLSA, or the stock you think is the next TSLA. You can split it up in a few stocks if you think you can pick better than the average market. Alternatively, you can go with the lazy portfolio and just throw it into Index funds knowing in 20 years you will be golden, and since you are going to get a decent job you will be able to contribute each month and grow it and life a safe life. To do this, look up bogleheads lazy portfolio or canadian couch portfolio in Canada.
Now if you really want to live life, and say you wanted to spend $1000 on a party, you go and risk that and put it on options. Turn that into $10K and go and buy a $10,000 on a bigger party instead. But you could end up finishing school with no money. Seriously, don't try this, I am sure most of #wallstreetbets does that.
However, it all depends on the life you want to live.

Timing the market > Time in the market is my motto so your previous comment has me intrigued.
executed: BTO SPY 2020-Sep-09 340 Put @ 2.39 DAY executed: BTO SPY 2020-Sep-09 340 Put @ 2.72 DAY executed: STC SPY 2020-Sep-09 340 Put @ 2.90 DAY
At peak it was 40%, but I just needed the 10% to make up all my losses. Then I got onto calls:
executed: BTO SPY 2020-Sep-09 350 Call @ 1.82 DAY
Were up 25% today but I held them as the market is still strong.
Think about this when you read a news article and they make a statement, what are this person's credentials? Since they are useless, go look at fundamental/technical analysis instead of media noise.
Edit: New TSLA position taken: executed: BTO TSLA 2020-Sep-11 490 Call @ 8.09 DAY
Yesterday's drop you could see it coming 5-days ago but if you had gone in 5-days ago you would not be making money today, so it's hard to just time it that well. RSI was high, volume was drying, many other indicators.
Edit: To add let's not forget there was a huge run on Tech so everyone is re balancing. This is a BTD opportunity.

The issue is many people hold a savings account in cash but then inflation eats you up, or they store it in a savings account, but then you break even with inflation. Taking advantage of compound interest is huge.
