I freelance in building Web Apps for companies so I can build free Web Apps in my free time. ' Guess I love building stuff. Last finished: https://eddtor.com
I found the idea of mail as long-term memory (also, as file-system) alluring. I instantly started working on a "pay once" email system, reserved http://memoria.email and put up an early-acces address reservation system. Working on it as speaking.
Meteor + React + MongoDB got eddtor.com really quick out of the door. But after 5+ years of maintaining my shipped products (I'm a freelancer, ME-JUST-ME kind of dev), my absolute happiness in customer service & maintanance was the most boring stack of all: PHP + HTML + JS + MySQL/MongoDB. Vanilla FTW.

I would say yes. I used it for over 10 projects over the years and haven't found something more compelling in the JS ecosystem in terms of speed, database integration, easy of use. Reactivity should be off by default, that's right. Last thing I build has a React front (it's a text editor for medium-long form writing) and I'm super happy with the data layer on Meteor.
