mandeepj··on WebLLM: high-performance in-browser LLM inference engine
It is kinda obvious, but maybe that's why it's not stated anywhere: each browser session will result in a download of 500 MB to ~1 GB, depending on your model selection. So, it's better to add a disclaimer if you end up using WebLLM in a customer-facing site.

> At what point would they still be considered the old company's property?

It depends on your contracts (aka NDAs). Sometimes employers do ban for that very same reason from joining a competitor(s) for x years from date of separation

But, he failed to sell us their electric car, which honestly looked great.
mandeepj··on Omarchy: Any User Process Can Escalate to Root
Lol! He's gordon ramsay of tech, who's frequently contradictory himself. On Round 2 with lex, he said something like no one lost recently due to using digital Maps. Well, check this one - https://youtu.be/z5ElIor-oXk?si=XfcS1UtC2OWReVXr

He's bashing and insulting all engineers and then asking for their contributions and complaining that not many people are committing code in open source repos.

mandeepj··on Omarchy: Any User Process Can Escalate to Root
So you need a new theme, and not a new OS :-)

> they confidently push out videos like they're experts, a week later it turns out whatever they were talking about was total crap

100%! When the US attacked Iran, they became experts on wars; when Iran closed the strait, they turned experts on foreign policy, diplomacy, and negotiation; they were doctors during COVID; now they are SME in flooding and disaster control after the Nepal incident.

While shouting we are going to follow the law. When called out on corruption he’s the most transparent president LMAO.

mandeepj··on Meta Paid $17B – Gets to Write Safety Rules for Other SocMedia Platform
> If you want to book a doctor's appointment you don't call and talk to an AI chat bot you message them on WhatsApp.

It’s so rare to come across it in India, I can say - there’s no such thing.

mandeepj··on Worst-case glacial lake flood scenarios in a transboundary Himalayan basin 2022
In the future, don't go close to mountains during monsoon season - late May to August end; that period is specifically for Southeast Asia. For the rest of the world, you can find it out.

> The other reason is that it would likely take years to spend $4000 (plus the real cost of electricity) worth of tokens on a 3rd-party provider

That's just a one-dimensional thought! Your own hardware gives you complete control, and it doesn't time you out for 4 hours, unlike those vendors.

mandeepj··on Meta reaches $17B settlement over social media harms to children
From $1.2T lawsuit, they settled for $16.6B; Meta got quite a bargain
mandeepj··on Supreme Court Allows Trump Plan to Restrict Mail-In Voting, for Now
The great majority of countries do not announce tariffs from the office at whim and later roll them back, including many other moronic things.
mandeepj··on Supreme Court Allows Trump Plan to Restrict Mail-In Voting, for Now
The same supreme court who refused to take the guy off ballots in 2024 by saying they can't interfere in the elections - is repeatedly interfering in the elections this year.

You know the problem; then why not address it? Does Compacting the context not help?

Apple Watch SE 2 has a life of barely 8 hours :-)

mandeepj··on Grok 4.6 scores 61 on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index
I have the same quality results with Fable. With just a brief prompt, it created a great static website with a beautiful animation of a workflow. Gemini's output was so poor that I closed the chat. And with Codex, the results were bad, so I discarded them.
mandeepj··on Nvidia's Risky Business
Yet, Microsoft pulled it off with a new .NET Framework, and Apple with its new iOS SDK. There are many more examples besides those two.

> common sense and not one dependent on "costly subsidies".

They say one thing and do another!

Edit: I meant to say wrapping their stupid acts under the disguise of 'common sense' is a stupid act in itself.

mandeepj··on Show HN: What should the GUI for AI agents look like?
If you are taking inspiration from OSs, consider creating a new AI-based OS rather than a tool.
