manbearpiggy··on Money Creation: 70% in the Last 12mo (Fed, M1, $)
most of the money in circulation is actually debt, or promises to pay for things like cars, phones, or anything you take out in credit. Since most of the world's money supply is debt between individuals and corporations, their needs to be a healthy supply of credit. The credit supply must exceed the demand from debt - so to speak. Inflation generally means there is more credit available in the system.
manbearpiggy··on Burnout: 'Sick and tired of feeling sick and tired'
The article mentions decreasing screen-time as a way to manage burnout, then plugs an app for managing your well being. Found that funny to be honest.
manbearpiggy··on Ask HN: Have you ever felt your life is going nowhere?
Maybe you're pushing yourself too hard? Academia isn't all it's made out to be. If you know you're not going to enjoy it or be able to focus, maybe you're right to think about leaving. It sounds like you have good experience, more and more software jobs don't require a CS degree. You're in a good position to work and be professional in your work - a degree doesn't make you professional. In fact, a lot of people with degrees find themselves in very different work roles completely unrelated to their study. Maybe you need some time away from work or the place you live - to put things into perspective. But please, don't hold academia in too high esteem and don't put too much pressure on yourself :)
manbearpiggy··on Ask HN: Will you stop Googling now, that it removed URLs and added favicons?
Google search has become less user unfriendly, turned their back on their old business model. It seems they've deliberately blurred the lines between ads and relevance.

Bing is now easier to use.

manbearpiggy··on German court bans Uber's ride-hailing services in Germany
Quite often people just see it from a consumer's point of view but if I were a taxi driver, why would I want to work for Uber? Sure it's good for early adopters but ultimately you get no job security and no wage security.
manbearpiggy··on Boeing to Suspend 737 Max Production in January
Can't they just rebrand the 737 max? Sort out their dodgy internal processes and add some new safety features. They've been repackaging old designs since the 60's anyway.

Either that or they go all in on a new medium-range aircraft, the market is already disrupted in Airbus' favour.

manbearpiggy··on Ask HN: Short and Simple Technical Writing Standards
This is something I have to think about too. Interested to know what kind of tools you're using, as this may influence how you collaborate with these teams.
manbearpiggy··on Uber’s self-driving car could not detect pedestrians outside of a crosswalk
This article is just terrible, it goes into the code/technical problems with the car. They killed a woman and no one went to jail for manslaughter.
manbearpiggy··on How I got rich on the other hand
Life is too short to eat peanut butter sandwiches every day.
manbearpiggy··on When GoFundMe Gets Ugly
That first fundraiser Matt White is a real POS. https://breakthroughcancercoaching.com/success-stories/
manbearpiggy··on Ageing in human cells successfully reversed in the lab (2018)
Eric Cantona was right https://twitter.com/brfootball/status/1167168051525095424
manbearpiggy··on Robots Are Catching Up to Humans in the Jobs Race
similarly, I don't get the whole automated driving thing. -Would you get trust a car with your safety and the safety of other road users? Uber already killed a woman.

-"Planes already fly themselves" actually they don't and you wouldn't step into one that did.

manbearpiggy··on Best Smartphones That Still Have a Headphone Jack
Iphone SE - when you don't need a spaceship in your pocket.

also limits the Alphabet co. reach - but I keep a tinfoil hat for extra protection.

manbearpiggy··on Amazon has proven unable or unwilling to effectively police third-party sellers
From my experience selling on Amazon, their vendor tools are absolute trash. These days Amazon(retail) is just a centralised eBay, anyone can list anything.
manbearpiggy··on How Uber Got Lost
The taxicab industry is a saturated market that is heavily regulated. Uber's only USP was that it could bypass regulation (and in some cases, tax).

Uber should serve as a warning imo - speculation drove the valuation so high on what is a very fragile business model. Are we seeing a tech bubble?

manbearpiggy··on I started an online subscription business from Malaysia
Love how candid this is, real insight into the shady world of e-commerce.
manbearpiggy··on Show HN: Yack – Community Browser for Hacker News, Reddit, YouTube and More
I was thinking recently about video streaming sites. There is only one, really, that creators can use. Youtube creators are very vocal about how frustrating YT is becoming. What if creators could use any video streaming site (vimeo, tiktok, whatever) and a single app or site could bring all this together.

This could be the answer, this could solve the problem of monopolies like YouTube.

manbearpiggy··on A friendly web development tutorial for complete beginners (2017)
This is great, it's more than a tutorial, more a comprehensive guide.
manbearpiggy··on Inside Coinbase’s Executive Turmoil: Conflicting Visions
what so two people?
manbearpiggy··on HTML is the Web
Web pages should be designed to load without js.
manbearpiggy··on Writing HTML in HTML
I get a tough time from some of my developer friends as I prefer pure HTML and CSS, also you can throw together a nice website using W3 templates (https://www.w3schools.com/w3css/w3css_templates.asp).
manbearpiggy··on The Remote Manifesto
The advantages are discussed more, while the disadvantages are just a paragraph. I think with this article it's a case of 'reason is slave to the passions'.

I genuinely want to know the arguments against.
