manbearpigg··on Bitcoin’s Wild Ride Shows the Truth: It Is Probably Worth Zero
Well if a guy on the internet says it, it has to be true.
manbearpigg··on Google Sued by 3 Female Ex-Employees Who Say It Pays Women Less Than Men
Google asked for this. You reap what you sow.
manbearpigg··on Washington Post integrates Talk – Mozilla’s open-source commenting platform
It's an echo chamber propaganda tool. It lets the content creator choose which comments are seen.
manbearpigg··on UC sues Trump administration on unlawful repeal of DACA program
It has nothing to do with race. It's about vetting to weed out criminals and people who can't support themselves. White Swedes can't smuggle themselves into the country either, nor can they fraudulently collect benefits.
manbearpigg··on Facebook says it sold political ads to Russian company during 2016 election
You believe that the Saudis donated 25 million dollars out of the kindness in their hearts, to an American foundation, run by Hilary Clinton, without any implication that the favor be returned?
manbearpigg··on Ask HN: How to move past 150k/200k in compensation?
In what roles at which businesses are new grads earning 120k-130k?
manbearpigg··on Chrome Enterprise
I have kept away from Google since they started promoting their alt-left political agenda. Just software for me, thanks. At least I found a new appreciation for the open source movement.
manbearpigg··on Jordan Peterson Interviews James Damore
Why is Google pandering to the social justice left? I thought they were a loud and insane minority. Is fake racism, sexism etc mainstream now on the left? Was Trump's election not a big enough wake up call?
manbearpigg··on As a Woman in Tech, I Realized: These Are Not My People
I am so sick of the phrase "women in tech".
manbearpigg··on Vermont Medical School Says Goodbye to Lectures
It depends what you're studying.

I did part of my computer science degree on campus with lectures that I didn't find useful. In one ear out the other. I have to slow down at some parts but can zip through other parts, but a lecture is steady paced. Huge number of hours wasted.

I did part of my degree at distance. The profs chose great textbooks and it was much better. It's always there as a reference and I can go at my exact pace.

I can imagine though that history or something might require lectures. You don't just give the kids obscure books with no context. For computer science though, an intro to algorithms textbook is pretty straight forward.

manbearpigg··on Apple Watch sales up over 50% since last year
I got one for my birthday. It's not a small computer, it's a great watch. If you want a watch, not a computer, you will like it.
manbearpigg··on Ask HN: How to maintain focus during long, critical-thinking intensive, tasks
Do work that you enjoy and you should have no problems. When you run out of focus after 10-12 hours, the only cure is to go to bed.
manbearpigg··on Replacing My Kid’s College Fund with a “Start Something” Fund
A fully qualified engineer will be in a much better position to provide valuable products and services than an 18 year old noob.

I guess it's better than a gender studies degree, but believe it or not, undergraduate education is not completely useless. I learned a hell of a lot.

manbearpigg··on Study finds Lumosity users show no improvements in cognitive performance
If luminosity challenges have any consistency at all, then you would think that users must perform better on luminosity challenged themselves.
manbearpigg··on Lessons from my first year of live coding on Twitch
liveedu.tv (formerly LiveCoding) has a coding audience orders of magnitude larger than that on Twitch at this moment.
manbearpigg··on [dead]
Literally a woman dreaming up a case of sexual harassment. Everyone agrees that sexual harassment is bad. I'm tired of recreational outrage.
manbearpigg··on The Brain as Computer: Bad at Math, Good at Everything Else
Natural language provides a huge amount of overhead for doing math. If computers did math in terms of natural language it would be a lot slower for them too.
