malydok··on Show HN: HyperApp – 1k JavaScript framework for building web applications
Then you need to send lit-html over to the client also. This would be a great alternative if one doesn't already use Babel, but what's the selling point otherwise? Is there an easy way to combine lit-html's render with the HyperApp one?
malydok··on Mylo: A leather-like material made from mycelium
When synthetic meat becomes good enough there'll still be loads of people who'll say it's inferior to the real thing. Apart from that I believe a happy cow is better than no cow so sustainable and environmentally-friendly livestock farms still have a reason to exist.
malydok··on Dinosaur tail discovered trapped in amber (2016)
I wonder how much the CGI production costs would rise :-)
malydok··on Portugal’s radical drug policy is working. Why hasn’t the world copied it?
Especially in politics where keeping ones opinions is perceived as a sign of virtue, no matter how wrong these opinions are.
malydok··on Portugal’s radical drug policy is working. Why hasn’t the world copied it?
You seem to be confusing legalisation with decriminalisation. In the latter case the state stops incarcerating the offenders but doesn't stop discouraging drug use.
malydok··on Uber Paid Hackers to Delete Stolen Data on 57M People
Same as `googling` will long remain the synonym for `searching the internet`.
malydok··on People Who Speed-Listen to Podcasts
Speed aside, I can't imagine listening to any attention-demanding podcast for more than 3 hours. Apart from straight up brain strain it wouldn't result in a lot of knowledge retention.
malydok··on Jōyō kanji variants: The curious case of 叱 and 𠮟 (2016)
Handwriting them makes for an 'a-ha' moment. ツ and ソ are written left-right while シ and ン top-down.
malydok··on OVH outage explained
> SBG's latest test for backup recovery were at the end of May 2017. During this last test, we powered SBG only from the generators for 8 hours without any issues and every month we test the backup generators empty.

They do seem to test the generators every month.

malydok··on Dangers of Sitting
Sitting isn't a prerequisite for meditation and improving your physical health isn't the point of it either, as far as I know.
malydok··on Astronomers Find Planet Hotter Than Most Stars
Does the article specify the planet's distance from Earth? I can't seem to find this rather fundamental information.
malydok··on Ask HN: What code samples should programmers read?
Wow, this is impressive. The dedication required is immense, over 380 episodes recorded already.
malydok··on The young Japanese working themselves to death
Personal anecdote. Last month my japanese friend in his late 30's collapsed from a stroke. He is a freelance (!) Web developer I collaborated with and I didn't know that before the accident but he used to work overnight without any sleep. Given his chain-smoking, drinking hectoliters of coffee and a sedentary lifestyle it's hard to miss the causes but still I wonder if just getting sleep could have prevented it to some degree. Now after 3 weeks of induced coma he's slowly regaining consciousness, though how much he will be able to is still unknown.
malydok··on JRR Tolkien book Beren and Lúthien published after 100 years
Read Silmarillion three times, would describe it as mythology. Think Beowulf rather than Bible. Thoroughly enjoyed the world Tolkien created.
malydok··on Isdal Woman: A mystery death haunting Norway for 46 years
That's not the case here. The only way America differs from Europe in writing the date is when you include the year. She didn't do that on the note, so whether it's "October 22" or "22nd of October" carries little meaning. I'd go for the shorter O22 myself as well.
malydok··on Show HN: A guide to all HTML5 elements and attributes
Don't forget <marquee> also!
malydok··on Show HN: First startup – A matching game based on your interests and location
I'm honestly getting triggered by the same, generic, upbeat music in every new product video. Is there research showing it attracts more users?
malydok··on 'All I wanted to do is build a house' (2010)
Can you recommend any ways to get into house building? Books, articles, general information. The codes probably vastly vary between countries, but I assume the fundamentals remain the same. Thanks.
malydok··on 'All I wanted to do is build a house' (2010)
Most software doesn't have a potential to kill people. And if it does it sure is certified.
malydok··on Frequent sauna bathing can reduce the risk of dementia
I wonder if this extends to hot spring usage as well, in Japan for example.
malydok··on CSS is powerful, you can do a lot of things without JS
If you properly modularize your CSS the global scope no longer remains a concern.
malydok··on In Newly Created Life-Form, a Major Mystery
The private key in the L1F3 encryption algorithm.
malydok··on Google is working on a kill switch to prevent an AI uprising
Sounds post-humanistic but what if the purpose of us humans is to develop a higher intelligence being? Another, albeit rather quick, step of evolution on Earth. All this fear of the "singularity" seems to me so subjective, rooted in our mortality and self-importance.
malydok··on Grd – A CSS grid framework using Flexbox in 512 bytes gzipped
Pretty trivial to write it all from scratch.
