malmsteen··on Malaysia seeks $7.5B in reparations from Goldman Sachs
"We" ? You are probably underestimating the number of trump supporters on HN (and in the tech scene in general)
malmsteen··on Johnson and Johnson knew for decades that asbestos lurked in its Baby Powder
Cause they will always say "i didn't know" and you can't prove anything
malmsteen··on Snowboarding for Geeks
R you a girl ? never had a problem standing up. you just jump from sitting and land on your feets
malmsteen··on Debt Worldwide Hits Record $86k per Person
It just means "you need to work" to many people.at the end of the day ?

At least thats how I see debt...

malmsteen··on YouTube Knows How to Stop Serving Toxic Videos
Its not "obviously wrong" for flat earther. It always depend on the crowd

Same here in this thread and even top comment: HN crowd so its "obvious" that we should ban alt-right and "people like video x or y because it is controverial"

Well no. Some people just thing its ok and want to watch it and the line between fighting hate speech and censorship is very hard to draw

malmsteen··on Does it matter where you go to college?
Education is not the same as work. Plus the point is that in most top uni there are a lot of competion some some criterias are always "unfair" because u need to lower the pool size quickly
malmsteen··on China harvested organs from political prisoners, says tribunal
Tbh you can see a conpiracy everywhere, even with your comment for example: you could be geniunely suspicious.

Or you could be a die hard trump supporter who prefer to say its suspicious because you don't like that attacking china whill lead in the future to attacking trump policy.

I wonder which one

malmsteen··on Crypto Market Crash Leaving Bankrupt Startups in Its Wake
>> Take a moment to imagine a few of the things you could do better if you had 100% reliable hosting that was safe and private.

Literally nothing more.. its why it doesnt work financially. The idea is cool though indeed

malmsteen··on Google Tried to Patent My Work After a Job Interview
Well the point is that its nice to see the world how you would like it to be instead of what it is. In practice some people are asshole, egoistical and take pleasure in it and i would argue life tend to reward that kind of behaviour (more money, more power and more girls). And they make fun of you.
malmsteen··on The deepest problem with deep learning
Yeah so why not just do it yourself ?

I really hate these kind of arguments where some people have strong beliefs that "it would work" and not do it or invest themselves. Its like being in a pub and listening people talk about politics while neverhave had any responsibilities

malmsteen··on Google Tried to Patent My Work After a Job Interview
You are a Nice Guy (TM) but business is business

it's actually not a bad thing that it's one of the few places you can actually be an asshole without feeling bad for it though

malmsteen··on Google Shut Out Privacy and Security Teams from Secret China Project
Welcome to reality. The whole "google is ethical" is a mantra they've always said to attract naive programmers like you. The point is for anything unethical but profitable in any way, someone else will end up doing it anyway so why not do it yourself.

Morals only work at the scale of a closed society (be it a full country), not at the scale of the world.

malmsteen··on Bitcoin Plunges to $3,738; Whole Crypto Scam Melts Down, Hedge Funds Stuck

malmsteen··on American Is Killed by Bow and Arrow on Remote Indian Island
No but evangelism is (nowadays)
malmsteen··on American Is Killed by Bow and Arrow on Remote Indian Island
"Front national" people are not exactly "crazy".. on the racist / bigot side but mostly working class people scared for their wallet / culture. They wouldnt exacly go evangelise peopne like that
malmsteen··on American Is Killed by Bow and Arrow on Remote Indian Island
I think he implies americans are more stupid than europeans nowadays #trump #mormons #altright #bigots. We dont really have that in europe

Edit: "some" americans of course.

malmsteen··on Google may shut down its news service in Europe
Well its different when the value of the page is precisely the title + summary of other pages.

That said its a bit of a last attempt from newspaper to get money when news nowadays is pretty much free

malmsteen··on Ask HN: Resources for introverted devs to learn workplace politics?
Make friend with people good at it.

Also work on being more at ease. "Limiting human interaction" is a bad route to go down to.

And finally on a positive note: learn to love your anxiety. Listen to what it says to you, knowing that its will ultimately help u do things better. People with no anxiety dont do things well. Learn to use it and master it to be better. Dont run from it

malmsteen··on Study finds reducing carbs and replacing with fats leads to increased metabolism
The point was questionning if we should look for increased metabolism or not.
malmsteen··on Ask HN: What's a good plant for my desk/office?
Cactus ? Dont forget to water it
malmsteen··on People are “consistently inconsistent” in reasoning about controversial topics
Its just numbers.. you can interpret as you want.
malmsteen··on China's brightest children are being recruited to weaponize AI
>> China is full of extremely bright, hardworking people. It is not a nation of brain-washed automatons

Thats a ridiculous argument: they are 1.5MM, im pretty sure you can find a few milions smart enough who fit the description of the parent comment.

Its not racist or whatnot.. every nation has its smart fanatics

malmsteen··on How plants evolved to make ants their servants
How is that "antropomorphic" ?
malmsteen··on People are “consistently inconsistent” in reasoning about controversial topics
"nuclear power is the safest on earth"

(cf forbes article which show death/kwh is even lower than wind / water energy)

malmsteen··on Google Plans Large New York City Expansion
Sense of adventure / lower familial pressure.

You can always come back to "shape the community" (so american ^^) later

malmsteen··on Philosophy Has Made Plenty of Progress
The point of science is that its supposed to be verifiable/ provable at least by someone. Its "trust" (in that "someone" or "group of people" who can prove it)... not "faith".

Faith is when its literally unprovable by anyone but you still believe it. Its completely different.

malmsteen··on An AI Lie Detector Is Going to Start Questioning Travelers in the EU
Also their "desire for education" could play a role somehow. In french migrants suburbs the scools are battlefield because the parents dont teach them basic discipline.
malmsteen··on Compare career levels across companies
There's barely enough data to make statistic over the whole population in his website i'm not sure it would make sense to isolate specific minority who would have like 1% of the already little data...

i'd be more into removing the male / female distinction overall in the website
