Opinions expressed are solely my own and do not express the views or opinions of my employer, friends, clients, etc.
Definitely this. This is the only way to make-sure people around us are protected. If enough tech people do this, we will have a better tech ecosystem for all of us.
Whenever I fix something or install something I explain what I am doing, and why I am doing it, and I think at least in my experience years of helping my friends and family they at this point trust me when explain to them why something is important. Everyone values their privacy everyone gets concerned when they realize how creepy some companies are.
The biggest reason they were afraid to move was because they had stored years worth passwords and other setting on their browsers.
Take some time and help a few people out. If everyone convert a few people and explain why they need to and help them with their issues. We can do this.
Mr don't be evil has become too evil at this point.

basically, its mostly bull.
From a company that used to deny this kind of allegations to being one of the largest violators of online privacy of billions of people, all in the span of just 20 years. I find it very interesting to see how companies change over time, and this is an interesting reminder of what facebook was and has now become.
"Always code as if the guy who ends up maintaining your code will be a violent psychopath who knows where you live."
In addition to a lot of clever tricks ddos protection comes down to a simple question. Who has more resources to keep going.
Had a situation where one of my servers were getting ddosed we tried multiple providers both cloud and dedicated, but the attack was not getting stopped by anyone, the customer service was useless on most other places its either we get null routed, or hours of back and forth with customer service without any solution.
We moved our servers to OVH the customer service rep directed us to an engineer within a few minutes. I remember we had to send a few packet captures during an attack to one of their network engineers and, not only did they block the attack in a few hours, the engineer in charge explained exactly what happened was such a nice learning experience, that one interaction with them will always make me recommend them.
If companies break your trust make them suffer. Leave. Find alternative or build them.
Any user who continues to use a platform and keep getting treated like a ahole deserves it. Look at recent netflix flip on password sharing, users rewarded them by giving them more subscriptions instead of leaving and finding alternatives.
Just leave their eco systems, reject their products until they treat their customers better.
Accessing ipfs.io/ipfs/ doesn’t do anything you mentioned. Its just a gateway.
You could take the link on the main submission. And replace ipfs.io with any (most, because some are offline) of the links here https://ipfs.github.io/public-gateway-checker/
And it will still work.
I love reddit but recently they are starting to make it harder to use their services. Eventually its going to turn in to a cesspool just like facebook. Something new is gonna come open to all we promise its always free and then repeat.
If JIRA is the "most hated" brand and at the same time a very popular issue tracker, then "Alternative to JIRA" sounds like, "here's an alternative to the product you so hate" isn't it ? I mean why would I look for an alternative if I didn't hate the thing I am working with or thought it was not good enough?
Best bit of the article.
Question for someone who knows more about this stuff. How likely is it to get the same response to the same prompt with gpt ? Does it have some kind of random seed applied behind the scenes?
-edit- Thank you for the responses. TIL.
He taught everything from creating your starter from just water and flour. And then goes in to so many little details that made my first sourdough bread actually something I was proud if. He’s a great teacher.
It’s really fun and you don’t need that much to get started.
