makaveli8··on LIVE NOW: Glenn Greenwald, Assange, and Kim Dot Com in NZ
I didn't realise I had so many right wing friends on facebook (Read: Not real friends). All they can come up with in response is "omg Kim Dotcom is fat lol"
makaveli8··on Show HN: NomadList – The best cities to live and work remotely in
lol 3rd world.
makaveli8··on Show HN: NomadList – The best cities to live and work remotely in
I found that Hanoi had a lot nicer and cheaper hotels than I could finnd in HMC. I did book online prior to arriving though - I was only staying in HMC for a short time and didn't want to waste my time accommodation shopping. I also found HMC to be a lot seedier than Hanoi.

monetising a website by putting ads or affiliate links on it does not qualify as a "startup" in my opinion. It bugs me how the hacker community throws the word startup around willy nilly.
makaveli8··on Show HN: NomadList – The best cities to live and work remotely in
Products, yes. Startups, no. The other "startups" are just products too.
makaveli8··on Google discloses its diversity record, and it’s not good
... brain damaged?
makaveli8··on Google discloses its diversity record, and it’s not good
I once had a boss who would deliberately skip over any indian sounding names in a pile of CVs.

Update: He would skip over them without reading them.

makaveli8··on Hoist – Fast API based web development
I signed up and got to the https://go.hoistapps.com/welcomeSource page and when I try and click "Get started" with upload selected I get a js error.
makaveli8··on Hoist – Fast API based web development
Those screamed Starbucks to me too. I guess starbucks have done nice work with their branding and marketing, such that anybody looking at a circle with some writing and frilly bits thinks "Starbucks".
makaveli8··on Tesla's relative asks Elon Musk for a donation to finish the Tesla Museum
What a strange way to threaten someone into donating millions of dollars to your cause.
makaveli8··on Rappers, Sorted by Size of Vocabulary
I completely agree.
makaveli8··on The awful thing about getting it right the first time
Who else has absolutely no idea what this is about?
makaveli8··on Things I’ve Learned in Starting, Running, and Quitting Living for Monday
A shorter explanation would be nicer...
makaveli8··on Ask HN: What's the best laptop for developers?
I just upgraded from my 2010 MBP to the most recent Macbook Air 13" and I am so happy I did. The screen isn't that bad because they stepped up the resolution to 1440x900. It gives the effect of a much larger screen.
makaveli8··on Fire
My initial thoughts too. I can't see any other reason for it's use.
makaveli8··on My First Hand Experience With Sexism
EXACTLY! I also read the blog on the assumption that the author was a woman up until he began mention of his wife etc. Does that make us sexist?
makaveli8··on My First Hand Experience With Sexism
Am I sexist for assuming that the author was a woman right up until the point where he says "Surprisingly most of my women friends and my wife" ?
makaveli8··on Ask HN: How productive are you?
+1 on your last sentence. If management can't spare anything to treat you better then why bother going the extra mile? Gear up for your next (better) job.
makaveli8··on Evicted in San Francisco
I feel exactly the same. She even got a $14k resettlement fee! If she didn't want to be evicted out into the cold she should have been a little warmer to her landlord and neighbors instead of being such a nuisance.
makaveli8··on How not to write an API
A lot of people reuse passwords across multiple sites - so nab their plain-text password + find out their email address, and you likely able to log into various other services using their credentials.
makaveli8··on How not to write an API
Agreed - He didn't even say that it was an issue at all. He seemed more concerned that the users are scoped to particular API keys and that he will lose his reviews.
makaveli8··on How not to write an API
The problem is that the app uses the same API key no matter what device it is installed on. If you download the app today you can find the API key and use it to retrieve the passwords for any users that have signed up to Criticker using the app - just as the author has done.
makaveli8··on Some guy forked a framework to post it as own, don't be that guy.
I was wondering that too! He has blatantly shown that he has forked Laravel in the README. I kinda feel sorry for the guy, he just doesn't realise you aren't allowed to relicense in the way he did.
makaveli8··on Is the shared economy racist?
That's a great idea - that would have been damning evidence.
makaveli8··on A Note of Explanation
Good to hear that there was a lesson learned today. Some things are best kept in your drafts folder, huh?
makaveli8··on [dead]
He probably isn't being sarcastic. You do seem leagues ahead of other highschoolers your age and that is probably inflating your ego a bit! Just keep a level head, man. You will find you will gain far more for yourself being supportive of others than you will from putting them down.
makaveli8··on [dead]
You come off as extremely pretentious and arrogant in this blog post. HN is normally quite supportive of younger developers, but if they act and present themselves in the manner you do then can't expect anyone's opinion of you to do anything but plummet.

The design I have seen on your porfolio at http://5lin.es/portfolio/ is kinda ok but very samey and in no way entitles you to feel as though you are better than anybody else, particularly other highschool students who will have basic experience at most.

I feel like I have just told off an insolent child.

makaveli8··on [dead]
The author is still in high school and shouldn't be pretending he has any authority on anything at all at this stage of his life. Especially if he can't prove it.
makaveli8··on Wanker
Luckily they let you change the delay time.
