Probably contributes to the logan's run effect you see in SV tech companies ;)
What I've seen from colleagues with kids is the spouse also works some sort of 6 figure job and they either commute a lot or bought a house before it got extra crazy. Like one who bought a $600-700k TIC around the Haight ~4 years ago. Or they sacrifice their living standard somehow. The current family set you see today bought when it was more affordable.
Bay area in a nutshell. You can have higher savings rates too, I do around %40 and I could save even more. Working at a startup does make it harder, usually it's better to work at FANG. You also learn a lot and realize the difference between 'facebook does this dev practice because it's huge so it has to vs. it's the better practice'
When someone is abusing you don't roll over, you create boundaries and walk away if they are violated.
And what is good about this practice is china has the power to stop this by treating everyone equally. Your not forcing things on china and you say you will stop when they stop.
For example, you usually need to take a 1 day foodsafe course to work somewhere like mcdonalds: http://www.foodsafe.ca/courses.html
In 10.12 there is no obvious way on how to run unsigned binaries now. When you double click on an app multiple times, it refuses to run. If you go to security settings you cannot run the unsigned binary from there. You have to right click on the app and press open to get the old dialog that would allow you to run an unsigned binary like it's some sort of easter egg. In older versions you didn't have these restrictions.
"Our companies don't have freedoms X,Y,Z vs Chinese corps in china, so Chinese corps and investors will get the same special treatment in our country too".
They can also do server side ads and make the url indistinguishable from another image asset. They haven't, so it isn't 'dire' enough yet.
From what I've read, it became fed policy to make sure this labor shortage condition doesn't happen around the 1980s as a response to the stagflation of the 1970s. It was believed that one of the causes of the inflation was wage growth.
From what I understand, wages tend to go up when the red line is below the blue line in this graph, and you'll notice the red line is under the blue line a lot more before 1980 vs after. You'll also notice interest rate spikes start around the point where the red line meets the blue line, and spikes of unemployment happen soon after.

Also driving is a good skill to learn while still living at the house, it's far more accessible when you don't have to pay for your own car. It's far more expensive to learn when you are in college.
Most people will choose free with ads, but a significant amount will chose premium if it is compelling enough and that can represent a lot of money.
The fact that there is an arbitrary money amount shows it's more of a fraud cutoff than a real limit.
While friends and coworkers who work(ed) at facebook have had a much better time, with far more perks, interesting projects work not thrown away and a much better work life balance.
The tech is out of bag and apple not doing it would just delay it by a few years. Managing a world where microphones and worse are everywhere and are being used by autocracy is how we should be acting going forward. Accepting that this is the world and dealing with the changes should be the focus, not trying to prevent tech that will be created whether or not some people like it.
edit: I do agree with your tweet about how it changes social norms although.
