magikaram··on Firefox 89 Tab Appearance
I also am in this camp, and used the "compact" UI theme previously. With editing the-

about:config

I have the new tab theme, and the compact UI once again.

And if anyone is also trying this route - change `browser.uidensity` to 1 will restore the compact theme.

"try tracing a straight line if you want a laugh" And on the Mercator projection, it too is also going to turn a straight line into a curved line. Draw a long enough line, and in a specific direction, it'll make an 'S' curve.

Personally, my favorite map to look at is the Goode homolosine projection. Also difficult for the usecase of navigation across oceans, but among continental comparisons, general shape and size, it's useful. Not all maps need to necessarily be used for navigation aeronautics, or seafaring.

magikaram··on Snapchat Can Be Sued for Role in Fatal Car Crash, Court Rules
I believe the comparison to "viral challenges" is in relation to the "Tide Pod Challenge" as it was started by people of the general public - not an organization.

It would also be a nightmare on a curved brick wall, or curved cement structure. The point of the shown technology was the experiment and the potential of it, not the specifics of this single architectural design.
magikaram··on U.S. Housing Market Is Nearly 4M Homes Short of Buyer Demand
Developers many times in higher density areas don't often "sell" apartments. Rather, it is many times a lease. This doesn't necessarily help new families that want to purchase something for 100k, as their rent would keep them from making this into any investment.

In addition, to making something split into quarters each time it's "sold and redeveloped" isn't possible, as you'll run into a lack of space at some point. You could potentially do this one time.

magikaram··on Facebookbreach.com – check if you or your friends' phone numbers are now public
I've gotten somewhat hit or miss with finding my profile_id via the inspect element in FireFox, and then just appending it onto the end of the url.

However, I'm not sure if it's because my account was created at end of June 2019 that it didn't return anything, or if it didn't work. (it worked when I pulled up a couple of the big name user's id's and compared to the breach.

magikaram··on U.S. senators reintroduce bill to make daylight saving time permanent
Considering how dark it is in winter mornings, I'd rather us just keep year-round off of DST instead. I say this while living in the geographic center of the country, and certainly for some people who live further north, I'd doubt they'd want the colder and darker mornings.
magikaram··on T-Mobile to share customers' data with advertisers unless they opt out
Under "real" capitalism, the general idea is that monopolization would indeed occur sooner, as the oversight that the government would have would lack to exist.

The Sprint/T-Mobile merger that was proposed a decade ago was denied by the FTC. The recent merger was allowed by the FTC, thus reducing our number of cellular companies.

magikaram··on The Roblox Microverse
As a recent college grad, I remember when I used to play Roblox as a middle school student with my best friend back in the day. I tried for nostalgia's sake to see how the game is present day. While I am somewhat lacking in understanding some of the changes, and road that the game has gone down now, it still appears to be a good online community for those who need an easy game to get around.

I might still have the Roblox Studio tool (circa 2012/13) installed on an old Pentium 4 laptop.

magikaram··on I want a computer that I own
There are certain extensions that I use on Firefox on the desktop. I would like to have some of those extensions available for my mobile device, in such a way, that I can enhance the usability of my mobile browser.
magikaram··on Every $1 of BTC value responsible for $0.49 in health and climate damages in US
I'm curious to see how Proof of Stake on Etherium will affect the PoW for BTC, and how this would affect the damage that crypto does to the environment.
magikaram··on LastPass Android app has got 7 trackers in it
Firefox has been a great web browser for me, as the synced tabs over devices has been useful. And while Google still likely has some of my data, I've switched to DuckDuckGo and Firefox full time now.
magikaram··on Why Nuclear Must Be Part Of The Energy Solution (2018)
I happened to read an article a few weeks back regarding Aluminum-Air batteries, and a potential use in EVs, yet while they might not be ideal for EVs, a potential ability for use in the grid might be convenient.
magikaram··on Users are losing out against Big Sur’s sealed System
In the case of "tap to click", a 3 finger tap would also emulate this, or as a middle mouse click.
magikaram··on Users are losing out against Big Sur’s sealed System
I've been using Pop_OS for the past few months, and haven't had any issues resembling this whatsoever. Of course my clipboard gets overwritten if I don't use a utility that saves previous text selections, but I don't recall this being a feature in any of the Windows/Mac/Linux Operating Systems by default.
magikaram··on The Framework Laptop
Apple, when you had repairs for a device, rather than repairing it, have actually ended up just throwing away the old device in favor of swapping for a new one. The past 6 years, they've made devices with no serviceable parts. Your RAM, Storage, Keyboard, among other parts - are all soldered to the board, riveted to the chassis, or glued shut. There is no way to service those machines. Once your Flash chips die, you need a whole new motherboard.

Sure, Apple recycles some of the parts of the device, but environmentally, it's much better to support and repair a device than it is to simply crush it and recycle it.

magikaram··on Logarithmic Maps of the Universe (2005)
Challenge: find your home logarithmically.
magikaram··on 'New car smell' is the scent of carcinogens
From my experience, MDF and particleboard furniture usually weighs more due to the higher density of the wood and glue vs. traditional wood furniture.
magikaram··on Ask HN: What is the best OS startup/bootup sound ever?
The best sound that I reminisce was the PlayStation 2 startup[0]. The sound was oddly terrifying as a child, and you booted it up in the dark. But I guess the nostalgia makes me miss it.

In addition, Windows XP and Windows 7 were the two most familiar Operating Systems that I used, and their startups probably are the most pleasing to my ears. [1][2]
