Yeah, he should publish this exquisite finding in the Journal of Human Shit That AI Would Not Produce

ROFLMFAOL "Loot"

It went full Fortnite on Hugging Face's ass.

Spot on. They now feel threatened that there's multiple challengers to their intellectual monopoly. This is their "whaaahhh... whaaahhhh... private company bad, now," but where OK when Halliburton, Boeing, General Dynamics, Monsanto, Open Society Foundation, Tides Foundation and many other shitty and scummy private and so-called "non-profit" entities were funding their shit. Now their entire business model is changing. Is not that it'll completely collapse, it's just changing and they are throwing a bitchy fit.

"People inside a moat, want to keep the moat from being breached because it fucks with their status quo."

EVERY.SINGLE.TIME. No shit, why would they want something disruptive to fuck with the way elite academia operates? And obviously I am talking about the "Master of the Universe" types atop the Ivory Tower. They have been A-OK, with privately-funded professorships, partnering with book publishers to milk students with single-access codes and never-ending "new" editions to their books, summer salary grants, partnering with all sorts of private companies as contractors, and/or milking on the tenure tit while the average adjunct lecturer at a local college/university struggles to make ends-meet and has 150 students in a lecture.

The author talks about his UC Berkeley years. That UC Berkeley that opened and operated for nearly a century as a public institution educating California's true middle class up until the 1960 Donahoe Master Plan, but slowly progressed to gate-keep "normies" out and pivoted to a model of elitism that is absolutely and catastrophically broken.

Fuck off.

mag7269··on Cherenkov Radiation
The Cherenkov effect, completely normal phenomenon, it can happen with minimal radiation. All you need, I’ve been told, is 3.6 Roentgens.
mag7269··on Watch Los Angeles get built, one building at a time (1880–2026)
Paradise? LA was a big giant horrible underdeveloped wasteland in Spanish/Mexican times which, at the time in 1849, had 1,600 residents. Most of them had a largely pastoral life and life was brutal there.

LA under US rule is the prime example of what industrialized people can do to a place that lacked nearly everything of what it is at this moment: a world-class city.

Objectively, if it had stayed under Mexican rule, it’d resemble Yuma at best or Tecate at worst. I should know, my family lineage goes back to that era to both sides of the border.

mag7269··on A/I shuts down
Yet billions of people would still want to come here.

How do you like them apples?

mag7269··on A/I shuts down
I don’t know, how many? You are the one throwing blanket statements.

I’m from Latin America and it’s 100% the fault of some of our own corrupt governments and us people living in those places.

Emphasis on “some,” because countries like Chile, Costa Rica, Uruguay and lately Argentina and El Salvador are showing that less government intervention in economic matters and a zero-bullshit policy on crime is how you turn things around to something that reminisces a somewhat livable country.

mag7269··on A/I shuts down
If that's what you characterize the US government as, I can only imagine what you characterize some of the other governments around the world. Particularly, from the millions of us who migrated to the US legally and willfully and who are very VERY grateful to this country for providing the opportunities people like myself could only dream-of in our former countries.
mag7269··on Private German rocket makes history, reaches orbit from European soil
As an American, I welcome a multi-polar world where Europe pulls its weight when it comes to science, technology and engineering! More so in geopolitical matters. It’s always been very draining for one empire or nation to maintain world peace. The 19th century was Pax Britannica, the 20th, after WW2, was Pax Americana, we can now hope that Pax AmEuropana can offer a counter to the crazy rapid growth of Asia and also find common ground with those nations.

"What happens when any [COMPANY] in the world stops caring about this? What if they let an experimental, cutting-edge [PRODUCTS] with no safety features (or worse, one that's [DESIGNED] to be malicious) on [ANYWHERE] and give it a simple goal? A goal like 'make the most money, by any means necessary', 'find a way to leave this payload on as many computers as possible', 'flood all websites using this language with garbage and make their internet completely unusable', 'get this person imprisoned or killed at any cost'."

Bro, this is what we literally, currently, have rn. lmfaol.

mag7269··on New York Times and The Athletic workers demand company scrap Kalshi deal
Got really confused as why my granola bar company was signing a deal with the NYT and The Athletic, and why this was deemed so controversial, then I used Google and learned the difference between Kashi and Kalshi.

mag7269··on Secondhand book sales are booming. Is it because of AI?
“Very rare, out of print books…” Horsepoop. 99% of the books they are doing this to are the like of “The Guide to Memphis 1971,” or “How to Use Lotus Organizer for IBM OS/2: For Beginners (1999).”

Don’t be a Luddite for the sake of being “edgy.”

mag7269··on Rethinking legal education in the AI era
All nice and all, but their grads will be wrecked by a street-wise guy with AI glasses (and eventually an implanted chip). There’s no competition in a machines vs humans match. It’s over. Of course these elite centers of knowledge want to keep the status quo, they base their entire existence on gate-keeping useful shit from the riff-raff. Well, fuck them.
mag7269··on Grok 4.5
Also worth mentioning that progressives have hijacked the word “liberal” for themselves.

Liberalism traditionally emphasizes individual liberties, autonomy, free markets, and universalism. Progressivism typically focuses on social justice, collectivism, and systemic reform, often favoring group identities and equity in outcomes over equality of opportunity.

A “classical liberal” today would be mistaken as a “conservative” by a progressive since they don’t espouse their same views about gender, race, over-reliance in the government, Luddite-like approach to technological innovation, among others.
