maest··on Afroman found not liable in defamation case
You can tell them they are doing a shameful job or that you disagree with their actions or whatever.

You just can't _insult_ them like a 6 year old on a playground. Why is the ability to do so valuable to you?

Maybe that right is not worth the trade off

I'm sure American law enforcement will get the chance to arrest them next time they set foot in the US. Or maybe DPKR will extradite them, who knows?
maest··on The bureaucracy blocking the chance at a cure
In the US the allocation process itself is very expensive. Something like a third of the cost goes towards paying the administrative costs of navigating the byzantine insurance rules.

Troll post. Adds nothing to the conversation, just wants to inject a tired meme.

What is the relevance of law and law enforcement around online messaging to renewable energy legislation?

maest··on Nasdaq's Shame
Lmao inclusion after 15 days is going to throw off the waiting curve on index arb desks.

The market usually prepositions a lot of volume pre-add, so much that the add day is usually a non-event. But they usually have a quarter or more to preposition. 15 days is going to cause so much volatility and chaos.

And the funny thing is, the index arb desks can't really opt out of this - you can't arb all names except one in the index.

What a shitshow this would be if the rules pass as presented by Nasdaq.

Also, does Nasdaq think it's worth killing the reputation of their index for the spacex listing? An index is just a list that everyone agrees on following. Losing public trust in this list could mean the end of Nasdaq 100 as a serious contender. There are many alternatives that could easily take its place.

maest··on Nasdaq's Shame
> No sane investor holds QQQ

There's more than $1T tracking Nasdaq 100, so that's an ignorant statement.

> Momentum is the strongest factor in all markets

Nit: beta is the strongest factor in all markets. Which is actually relevant for the success for PE funds in general, as a rising tide lifts all boats and people taking on debt to finance equity generally post outsized returns in bull markets.

Anyway, the rest of the stuff you're saying I agree with.

maest··on Florida judge rules red light camera tickets are unconstitutional
Increase the punishment for repeat offenders, ultimately suspending their license.

This is very common outside of the US, btw.

maest··on Florida judge rules red light camera tickets are unconstitutional
Loosely related:

There is a driver in NYC who gets almost 300 speeding tickets per year. They've paid their fines, so they're allowed to keep driving. Apparently, since the fines come from speed camera, they can't revoke their license.

I don't know about all the other accusations you make, but this one is pretty off the mark, considering this has been the most unpopular government amongst the rich in a while. I mean, it's Labour, what did you expect?

maest··on Last Statements
Yes, those acts are immensely terrible and the apologies feel minuscule by comparison. But I think there's room for more nuance here.

There are multiple reasons we put people in jail:

1. the victims can feel some vindication and retribution

2. other members of society can feel some vindication and retribution and a sense of justice

3. other would-be criminals are detered from committing similar crimes for fear of punishment

4. making people feel safe by showing them criminals are punished

5. removing a bad actor from society

6. reforming a bad actor and reintroducing them into society

Different cultures emphasize different combinations of reasons. For example, ine notable divide is how, in the US, 6. is considered to be the product of a naive mind, whereas in some nordic countries, that goal is taken seriously, with some amount of success (and perhaps at the detriment of other goals).

Anyway, I think your point is that, even if you take the convicts' apologies at face value, goals 1. and 2. remain unfulfilled. And 3. is probably weakened.

The US has been taking steps in the wrong direction wrt climate change and they will undoubtedly be judged to jave been on the wrong side of history on this one.

In the near term, however, Americans will blame everything except man-made pollution for the fallout from climate change.
