> It seems reasonablly likely this is inspired partially by the pivotal tone-setting role that Reddit - entirely organically - played in the outpour of support for Luigi Mangione. It's widely known that big tech CEOs are all in shared WhatsApp (or Signal) groups, and especially social media platforms are very attentive to the opinions of their powerful friends, both governmental and non-governmental. There's no doubt that a lot of them will have reached out to Reddit leadership after that event. Don't take this as justification, it's anything but that. Purely a look at their motivations and timing.

I'm not happy I was completely spot on, I'm sad this wasn't a more widely shared prescience.
1) only matters if you're a very high value target who is being manually target. Doesn't apply to 99.999% of people, who only need to worry about credential stuffing and brute force.
2) Similarly, it's not hard to come up with an algorithm that satisfies 99.9% of websites.
3) To a lot of people, managing a password manager sucks.
I personally do use a password manager and automatically generated passwords, but also understand that for many people it's the better option.

If this includes the benchmarks used by the frontier model providers, I'm stunned to hear this. It's abundantly clear that they're trained on and gamed to oblivion, rendered meaningless.
Or are these a different set of benchmarks? Or only when applied to research, non-commercial models?
If *becoming the most valuable company in the world* isn't being "rewarded", then what possibly is?
No, it's the hypercapitalist endless drive for ultra short-term, next quarter profits at the cost of anything else that causes this. Obvious irony being that Apple would've never become this big if Jobs had followed this approach.
This of course is the #1 reason of the downfall of the West, above all else - pure short-termism.
I'm guessing it's just because they're so extremely all-in on every single of their products being on the edge, and you can't make that work with VMs without becoming far more expensive than any of their customers would pay.
Or maybe I'm clueless. But it sure looks that way from the outside.
In what way? I find the opposite, 4o's output has a very strong AI vibe, much moreso than competitors like Claude and Gemini. You can immediately tell, and instructing it to write differently (except for obvious caricatures like "Write like Gen Z") doesn't seem to help.
You're definitely right about Die Linke's demographics though.
Civ's multiplayer is traditionally very poor (frequent crashes, desyncs etc), which is a big reason why there's such demand for good AI, moreso than other games.
The customers for these apps are the parking lot operators and they love the apps.
> 2. Tinder is worse than IRL speed dating.
It is now, it definitely wasn't when it first came out. Prime example of enshittification, but not an example of what you're conveying.
> 3. Duolingo is worse than language classes.
This one I feel has the most merit, but still not a lot. What % of Duolingo users would've actually taken classes were it not for these apps? Also, some people don't learn well from classes (I'm one of them). Not that that makes Duolingo any better, but despite its pretenses it's squarely aimed at extremely shallow, casual, surface-level learning that might be useful on a holiday. And people don't take classes for that.
> 4. Airline apps that are worse than just printing a boarding pass.
In what way? Admittedly I've only used the apps of 2 airlines, but they worked fine.
