there's more software jobs than just game dev or CRUD apps. sorry people, but it's called work for a reason. not every job is going to be a dream job. sometimes it's a job.
Wow honestly maybe rethink your upsells here.. literally had to scroll half way through the page to get to the actual article. And what's the purpose of having a full screen splash image of a pineapple with sunglasses..
I think Progressive Web Apps should help with this. The architecture there designates that you have an app shell that's only downloaded once - this should be your SPA framework and all the layout bits and blobs. Those get cached at the service worker layer. Everything else (i.e. the actual data that gets displayed) can be cached as needed or retrieved as needed, without having to redownload all the "app shell" bits.
And it's not "anti-media" it's anti-tabloid. BuzzFeed listicles, quizzes, all that shitty content that's plagued the internet and social media for years. Good fucking riddance.
What backpay is owed to employees? If you're referred to unpaid PTO, if it was in their employement contract I agree. Otherwise, just another case of clueless millennials signing contracts without reading them.
Why are we acting like a journo company laying off 1000 people is the end of the world? Are people not aware of how many other companies across many sectors have layoffs all the time? This isn't news. BuzzFeed sucks, their journalists were providing benefit to the business, so they pivoted. Can we move on?
I've worked in companies both in the mid west and in Silicon Valley. I think this culture is much more pervasive in the valley. In most other parts of the country where normal people work, women are accepted just as well as men. In fact, every company I worked for in the mid west had a reasonable amount of women, whereas the Silicon Valley companies had very few if not at all.
Or maybe some people actually do love the work they do... Are people really this disenfranchised that they can't possibly imagine that some people really are doing work they enjoy? I love my career and the work I do is fulfilling and gives me a sense of accomplishment
They should try, but maybe if they make the most common RNG mistakes they aren't suited for reinventing this particular wheel. There are many issues with the RNG and cryptography methods if you read the other comments.
Except in 2016. And that 4000 is a biased population of only game devs that attended a certain conference. Maybe if it was a totally random sample of 4000 of all game devs it would be statistically significant.
What is this idea that every job you do has to be brilliant and engaging? There's an endless amount of dull, tedious, and repetitive work required to make many things possible. That's why it's called work.
Yeah honestly, I think those are the type of engineers that are more suitable for managing other engineers, and the really heavy ones are more suited for strictly engineering.
There's a company that implemented this for email using cryptocurrency. https://bitbounce.com/
Any unfamiliar senders get an autoreply asking for them to pay a fee to send the email. You as the receiver get paid this fee (-30%) for each email received (not read)
Construction is a dangerous job as well. You can be hit by falling things, there can be heavy equipment failures, you can fall off the buildings if you're not sufficiently harnessed. Electricians too - there's a chance, however small, of receiving a lethal shock. Delivery drivers could get killed in car accidents, it happens every day (car accidents, not specifically involving pizza drivers but given they're on the road more often it's a statistically higher probability for them)
