For example, Dhall (https://dhall-lang.org/) could be seen as a subset of Haskell, with less features but guaranteed termination!
Your JS/Python/Lua code could do plenty of non desirable stuff (infinite loop, download trojan from the internet...etc).
Dhall lang for example forbids all this, but still allow you to write simple functions to avoid repeat yourself.
He only does classes at 8:30 and on blackboard, with a lot of humor and history of science stories in the middle. He was supposed to write an algorithm book at some point, if he ever finishs it, it's a must buy !
Considering the length and difficulty of the HSL in California, you can multiply the cost at least 3 times, so something around $30B. You add the fact that the US labor is more expensive than France (contrary to common knowledge), the fact that it's the first HSL in the US..etc.. and the $64B figure is not too crazy anymore.
Your estimate of $2-4B in 4 years is imho absolutely unrealistic.
It turns out in 200 lines of TypeScript I can have a view library which has everything I like from React/Redux/mithril/Elm:
* reactive (hopefully fast, I haven't benchmark anything but I trust snabbdom benchmarks)
* simple API (basically 2 functions) and simple workflow (event -> update -> render)
* hot-reloadable (thanks to Webpack HMR)
* time-travelable (inspirated by Elm Reactor)
* type safe-ish (I wish I could do more here but I think TS is limiting it - a const keyword would be awesome)
Disclaimer: I wrote that during my Asia backpacking so the code is ugly and not even named consistenly but as I'm looking for a job I will try to make it more presentable/usable soon. https://github.com/maattdd/AuberJS for those interested
Random interesting bits:
function draw() {
if (m && node) {
const new_node = ballastView(r,m)
patch(node,new_node)
node = new_node
} else {
console.error("Unable to draw")
}
}
