m_herrlich··on Estonia has a new way to stop speeding motorists
I've always assumed speeding tickets are more about income than safety, since speed is a very rough measure of safe driving when you ignore the vehicle and driver skill.

This approach costs more (cops babysit speeders) and the state doesn't get paid. Doesn't seem practical from a policy standpoint.

m_herrlich··on The Energy Cost of Electric and Human-Powered Bicycles (2004) [pdf]
The author lost me at the assumption that humans on electric bikes eat less than humans on pedal bikes.

Personally I eat about the same whether I drive or bike, just ride to avoid getting fatter.

I cannot even imagine the legal sh!tstorm that would ensue from attempting this here in the PNW, the environmental impact looks quite significant.

m_herrlich··on AI Company Accused of Using Humans to Fake Its AI
It's all done by Algorithms! This guy's name is Algorithm, and this guy, and these other guys...
m_herrlich··on The hotel bathroom puzzle
In the Hotel Louis IV even the bathrooms have bathrooms (but the guests still have to share)

I think just because thong is a funny word that means different things in different places
m_herrlich··on MIT 9.11: The Human Brain (Spring 2018)
The typo on the second slide, "Marr's Level's of analysis" kinda jumps out doesn't it?
m_herrlich··on Cognitive Ability and Vulnerability to Fake News
Teaching meta-cognition abilities to the masses seems unlikely. How wrong would it be to use the principles in this article for "good" i.e. anti-propaganda propaganda?
m_herrlich··on Show HN: Jail-Testing How Internet Chemotherapy Works
Nerfing (gaming) ... In video gaming, a nerf is a change to a game that reduces the power of a weapon or skill in order to maintain game balance. The term is also used as a verb for the act of making such a change. The opposite of nerf is buff (in either of that term's two usages).
m_herrlich··on The House just voted to wipe out the FCC’s landmark Internet privacy protections
because he's worried about losing incognito mode?
m_herrlich··on The smug style in American liberalism
But dumbasses do exist. And if a true dumbass senses that you think he's a dumbass, he will obsessively counter everything you do just to be contrarian. Teach those libtards a lesson. It's not logical but it makes total sense if you think like a dumbass.

I guess I'm part of the problem.

m_herrlich··on Social Anxiety
Fantastic job, if only verbal communication were as easy as written. BTW I have already deleted and rewritten this comment several times.
