> It sounds like the Animal table is going to be the join table between Pet and the different types of animal tables. Correct?
Yes, that is correct.Edit: Basically what I am looking for is a trade-off between space and performance.
> By "Pet" class, do you mean a table for pet records?
Yes. > Having an AnimalRabbit table implies a many-to-many relationship between Animal and Rabbit. Are you storing different rabbit types as parent records?
The whole point on making an Animal table was so that it could be referenced by the Pet table, because Pets can be more than one type. If I include Dog and Cat directly in Pet table then there will be lots of fields in the Pet table empty; also tomorrow if I want to add Rabbit as a Pet then I need to modify the Pet table to include Rabbit fields with null values in the previous rows. Having a separate Animal table allows me to add new types of Pets without modifying the Pet table and also saves table space. > What attributes do all pets share?
Pets have owner, feeding time, outdoor time etc. > What attributes are unique to dogs?
Type, Height, Medical record, Sex, Barking pitch etc. > What attributes are unique to cats?
Type, Colour, Weight, Medical record, Sex etc. > I agree if you can use a recursive table
Could you please elaborate on that? Which table will have recursive relation in this case? > Recursive relation within the same table. A single table can solve this problem.
How? Which table will recurse? No, not a requirement. But what will I lose if I choose graph DB over RDBMS?
> Are there any significant differences between AnimalCat and AnimalDog? Feels like there can just be an "animals" table with an enum "type" field
The AnimalCat and AnimalDog are just relationship tables. The alternative to not using separate relationship tables is, just as you said, to use an enum type field in the Animal table. I was actually trying to avoid using an extra field in the table to indicate type, hence my question on what are better approaches to avoid both table size increase and performance issues.I think governments should provide free education and healthcare to everyone and peg the prices of housing to some standard price index. That's it. No blanket free money.
Please could you share any links to current best practices? In some of the previous comments OWASP was mentioned, apart from that are there any other resources to follow for web app security?
- Bootstrap 3.x
- jQuery
- KnockoutJS
because of the following reasons:
- The devices that will be accessing the web app may have older browsers, both desktop and mobile.
- My users will be in geography where network connection is sometimes slow.
- These libraries have been in the wild for very long time and time tested with lot of support available on public forums.
- Very easy to get started.
- As I am not primarily a front-end web developer, I am not in a position to handle various quirks of different browsers; if libraries such as bootstrap, jquery and knockoutjs handle that for me for older devices and browsers then it is useful.
If I had an option to go for a more modern stack, then I would have gone with svelte.technology, unpolyjs and bootstrap.
I want this web app to be secure, scalable and maintainable. If the client in future wants someone else to take over the project then it has to be easy for them to do so.
So what did an introvert, non-english speaker with no experience of selling do to sell successfully and what did I learn? Here is what I learned, and it is really very simple:
The first rule of selling is don't sell; rather learn, inform and help i.e. genuinely learn about the customer's requirements/problems, genuinely inform the customers about the solution you have or anyone else who could provide the solution and genuinely help the customer with the decision making process. That's it. And your customers then become your recommender and help you "sell" more!
That is the recommendation for a calm, refreshing and healthy life.
If that is the case then every successful business person should be categorised as "unintelligent"! Most of the successful business people have failed in their first attempt.
> lack business acumen and do not have a good network.
This could be the real reason. And it can be built with little bit of effort.
The aim is to allow developers to create their own channel for the project they are working on. The developers can then post about their project or idea under the "general" channel to invite others to their channel for participating in their project or idea.
Here is the invite: https://tinyurl.com/ybongxl2 in case you want to join.
