anyone else feeling like lately at work they are spending more time on dialing in time estimates for work than actually doing the work? it feels like we have a problem (at least in sysadmin/devops roles) of valuing time estimates/"the process"/agile over actually banging out some work. i am starting to tune out planning meetings and requests for time estimates with a least effort possible attitude.

i think a few years ago someone tried to get me to try some terminal app that was Electron based. not AS bad but still... barf.

usually quicker than i realize it is my thumb/hand or the case that is obstructing the lens.

this is legit. sometimes i feel like i wait a little too long to gather notes or brainstorm possible solutions when i could probably get that going faster by involving a colleague and tag teaming it. it is a balance i am trying to work on because i feel like i “don’t want to bother anyone” a lot.

Remember that for all the time spent trying to figure out these philosophical conundrums in our trade tech debt is still piling up and someone else is out there writing actual code/working... these are nice things to think about but don’t get hung up on them. Lots of this is subjective stuff that has no answer and the code isn’t going to write itself (not yet).

they have alerts that can email you if you are approaching a limit but i don't think you can tie that to some automated shutting down of your stuff (i might be wrong i haven't worked in aws heavily for about 2 years now... believe others with more recent exp if they comment otherwise) tbh i kind of get why it is like this, aws is a business and they are only looking for your money. responsibility for keeping your pants up at aws is on the admins.

a not so obvious protip: you usually don't even need a "qr reader app" modern phone camera apps will pop the link without having to install extra stuff.
