m0ngr31··on Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha’apai has almost disappeared
I'm guessing that's Home Assistant?
m0ngr31··on Show HN: RootMy.TV
Interesting that they are using Enyo still. Had some fun using that back in the day.
m0ngr31··on Slackware Linux 15.0 RC3
I used to use Slackware back in maybe 2003-2005. It was great. Eventually migrated to Ubuntu but I always appreciated that it got me hooked on Linux.

Now that I think about it I think Unraid uses Slackware, so I guess I'm still running it.

m0ngr31··on Bladecoder: Point and Click Adventure Editor/Engine
I grew up on Point and Click games. I'd love to see them make a resurgence. I tried using Adventure Game Studio a few years back after seeing some games made with it, but it wasn't intuitive enough for me to use it. I'll have to check this out.
m0ngr31··on Google says iMessage is too powerful
What a sad place we've arrived compared to where we started
m0ngr31··on Google says iMessage is too powerful
Back in the original Palm Pre days, webOS had the best messenger app.

Would do regular SMS messages but you could configure your AOL, MSN, and even Facebook messaging at one point IIRC all inside of the same interface. It's too bad it lost out compared to Android. Was so far ahead in so many areas.

m0ngr31··on DIY Off-Grid Solar Power
The house or the shuttle bus?
m0ngr31··on DIY Off-Grid Solar Power
Just from some local classifieds.
m0ngr31··on DIY Off-Grid Solar Power
I live in an off-grid house. Solar isn't perfect, but it's been pretty good all things considered 6 months in. Converting an airport shuttle bus into an RV now, so I'll have to look this over for that.
m0ngr31··on All the giant companies used ffmpeg (2020)
I've worked for video streaming companies the last 5 years or so. ffmpeg all the way down.
m0ngr31··on Tuxedo Stellaris: A Powerful Linux Laptop
Honestly, I haven't seen any difference so far from my previous Dell Precision with 32GB ram. But I went big up front to keep it for years. I use it for work and home
m0ngr31··on Tuxedo Stellaris: A Powerful Linux Laptop
No complaints from me
m0ngr31··on Tuxedo Stellaris: A Powerful Linux Laptop
I've been pretty impressed with my Framework so far. 64GB ram and it runs Ubuntu perfectly. Only thing missing is a dGPU and maybe a bigger battery.
m0ngr31··on Tailwind CSS v3.0
I'm in the same boat. Started using Vanilla Extract (https://vanilla-extract.style) earlier this year and it's the best CSS setup I've ever worked with.
m0ngr31··on Privacy.com Reissuing All Cards
Always bugged me when I tried to use a Privacy card on Digital Ocean
m0ngr31··on Wolves make roadways safer
Deer are pretty smart like that. Where I live there are deer all over about 2 weeks before hunting season. Then they dissapear into the hills. They just started coming back now that the hunt is over.
m0ngr31··on Firefox is the 45th result when searching for “Firefox” on Windows Store
Back in the Windows Phone days, they'd send you a phone for developing an app. I wrote a crappy calculator app during a CS class and got a free phone out of it.

I spent more time doing the app submission than I did writing the app. They didn't care what it was. Similarly Blackberry had a similar program a little while later where I just ported the same app and got a Playbook tablet.

It was fun as a poor college kid, but look where it got both of them.

m0ngr31··on The fast-food workers’ season of rebellion
Good for them
m0ngr31··on Facing sky-high connection fees, rural Ontarians go off the grid
I'm off grid and have all of those things. I don't worry about battery level because I have an appropriately sized system.
m0ngr31··on IoT hacking and rickrolling my high school district
We would write scripts to essentially make net send DOS attacks on different labs.
m0ngr31··on The Off-Grid Laws of Every State in America
Yep, I'm off grid (minus fiber internet), and you wouldn't be able to tell
m0ngr31··on The Off-Grid Laws of Every State in America
Pretty high overview, but good overall. I built an off grid home this last year and it's pretty great.
m0ngr31··on M1 Inside a G4 Sunflower iMac
Wouldn't the resolution on that be pretty trash if they haven't replaced the panel?
m0ngr31··on “Kids who grew up on smartphones do not know how to do anything on a computer”
I have a friend who teaches classes at a technical college. During the day one of the classes is a programming class for high schoolers. He said that none of the kids knew what a file was when he tried to get them to open or save something.
m0ngr31··on The Insane Innovation of TI Calculator Hobbyists
I was the same way but with Casio calculators. Got me into programming and the casiocalc.org forum was the first online community I was ever active on. It's like a ghost town now but it was a good time back in the day.
m0ngr31··on Anthony Levandowski to Larry Page: Google's self-driving project is broken (2016)

m0ngr31··on New York Public Library ends all late fees
Will Mr. Bookman be out of a job?
m0ngr31··on Amazon’s new Kindle Paperwhite
I have it running on my Unraid box with a million other docker containers and all my media. That way I don't need to worry about keeping my ebooks organized on more than one machine.
m0ngr31··on Show HN: Virtual Linear Channels for ESPN+
Last week I was contemplating what to do about watching NHL games this season since it is moving off of NHL.tv and on to ESPN+ for out of market games. I thought it'd be nice to have everything integrated with my current setup (OTA channels with HDHomerun + Pluto.TV + ErsatzTV), so I decided to write this up.

This creates 100 channels in case there are that many simultaneous events happening at once, and then figures out channel to put each event on.
