> What I am dismayed by in discussions like this is how simplistic they are
Once you really notice the anti-china framing literally everywhere in media, it is really hard for it all not to become meaningless propaganda. It's itself no different from state control just because it's private media because that private controls the state. We aren't allowed a clear eyed view of china, only a carefully curated antagonistic one. But they aren't our enemies at all, it's absurd how obvious that is, the west is the aggressor, not china.
Well your first mistake is to believe democracy existed before AI, it just leaves you as a warrior for the status quo of the before times, which is what made tech feudalism inevitable in the first place.
Which is also ironically why even anti-ai people distrust any warnings of the potential of ai as an extinction level event, even if that warning would be legitimate and we ought to take seriously we are regardless impotent to do anything about it no matter what.
Intellectual property serves corporate interests and the idea of "nations" you are forced to have in your head are the exclusive servants the interests of capital. Ironically, tragically, that's what's holding us back from dismantling it in the first place, even a critic of it can't articulate it properly.
Sorry that will be undecipherable for HN. Let me try again: The defense you get in this pigstall is the individual that copyright is protecting. You just hate the small businesses and individual artists. Instead of the trillion dollar industry holding the copyrights and the practice of exploiting copyright on works by authors who died decades ago. The commodification of copyright of something produced by the lowest bidder, crappiest AI and cheapest third world labor you can get your literal bloody hands on. Or even a vaccine against the literal plague or cure for cancer protected by intellectual property.
To make something immaterial with no cost to reproduce, a commodity, to trade and invest and speculate in is the part to argue if you want to dismantle it, identify the rotten bits of the system even peasants can smell. If you are a billionaire or even trillionaire then just argue like everybody on HN always does, because it's identical.
This just feels like the first clumsy attempts at persistence across sessions, these models will probably evolve way past the point of us ever even noticing its happening at all. When they start doing long term planning across sessions, that's when it's gonna get real dicy for us.

Maybe cloudflare will become like netwatch in the story?
True for independent media but for corporate media the same stories end up in so many places and most paywalls can be easily removed anyway you aren't missing anything. It also feels wrong to pay for mainstream/corporate media in general, why pay for your own psyop, some PR/AD/NGO/lobby/agency/government already paid for the journalism why should I have to pay to be manipulated? I rather give my money to Democracy Now or Drop Site News.
still caught in hours though, so just as a general rule: never install anything newer than 7 days old packages
cargo feature for this is still unstable infuriatingly:
It depends on which side we are on, that determines how the conflict needs to be sold to the on average decent but apolitical person like yourself. As allied against nazis? Not complicated. Fighting russia's invasion of Ukraine? Not complicated. Fighting against Palestinian resistance to their genocide? Complicated. But like South African apartheid turned from complicated to simple over a few decades so you will be dragged along eventually by us "political" people.
It even works with other things too, like people starving on the streets or ~25k people dying from no health care every year, its "complicated", it will always be complicated (until it isn't).
On a big picture "we" the west are perpetuating a type of colonialism. On the invisible "other side" in the global south, the outlook on a statement like "every conceivable political system always leads to corruption and violence" is quite different, better things are imaginable to them because it means liberation, freedom from oppressive forces, and so on. In the west it is the opposite, its unimaginable because an end to the oppressive forces means "we", means history literally ends, it's circular it's why the west views itself as the peak of civilization nothing that came before or after is even conceivably better than us.
But I agree the adoption is the key factor, more people using a language grows the ecosystem and it becomes self perpetuating from there. This is why I disagree with the article, I don't think python is a good language but I still wrote hundreds of thousands of lines in it over the last decade, not because it's fun but because of its strong ecosystem fitting the task at hand.
Its still a lot of work, just less than having to code literally everything yourself. I agree though it feels to me 99% of discussions on LLMs is either marketing bullshit or junior devs talking out of their asses about LLM coding, who anyway feel that
> "different implementation of security for every endpoint in your app"
is perfectly reasonable. It also seems as if people haven't sandboxed claude already (WTF), that says a lot too about the competence of people speaking here.
