lyorig··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (September 2026)
Currently iterating on Sandlot, an SDL3 wrapper in Rust that enforces lifetimes and generally offers an idiomatic Rust interface with less opportunities to shoot yourself in the foot.

It’s the first proper library I’ve published for the world to see (still in uni, so yeah, not as experienced as most of you) and I’m still figuring out the bookkeeping that comes with releasing new versions etc, but it’s been a great learning experience and even the vain hope that someone will find it useful one day is quite nice.

lyorig··on What algorithm did Windows XP use to choose your initial user picture?
Man, every post from Raymond Chen regarding Windows internals is like a little Xmas. I wonder whether he has to ask someone for permission before publishing this knowledge, though.
lyorig··on The PImpl idiom and the C++26 std:indirect type
Small nitpick, but a post about C++26 should really not be using `const std::string&` parameters. We have had `std::string_view` for this exact purpose since C++17.

By honoring font choices, do you mean the ability to overwrite emojis as well? I’ve never had issues using custom/nerd fonts, but it’s true that the emojis have stayed true to the Apple style so far.
