lupire··on The LLMentalist Effect (2023)
A human cannot start a conversation. Every human conversation is predicated on the human being activated by its parents.
lupire··on Returning Soldier Effect
The graph makes it pretty obvious that the effects isn't real. The newy steady growth in ratio 1910-1950 is more interest, but even so, the magnitude of variations is tiny.

If anything, infanticide is likely the cause of distortion. Look at China's One Child Policy.

lupire··on Frontier AI on Your Own Hardware
It's human-modified AI slop. No human is able to write so much so badly
lupire··on Frontier AI on Your Own Hardware
Interestiny, the article mentions that, in comtext of PhD students desperate to escape to industry labs.
lupire··on Frontier AI on Your Own Hardware
In addition, per OP's own source, Computer Eng and Comp Science have the highest Median Wage Early Career. That's a great trade for slightly higher unemployment rate.
lupire··on If math is more than proof, we need to better celebrate the rest of it
Engineering is a religion based on faith. Math is the god you follow :-)
lupire··on If math is more than proof, we need to better celebrate the rest of it
That's leaning into engineering, away from math. Heuristics aren't always accurate. Math history before proof is the history of delusion. Idea, heuristics, and motivation aren't nearly enough for correctness outside of a sandbox.
lupire··on If math is more than proof, we need to better celebrate the rest of it
LLMs have LLM intuition, not human intuition. (See the movie Her.)

LLM cannot reinvent Euclid from scratch, but a larger system including LLM might.

lupire··on If math is more than proof, we need to better celebrate the rest of it
Love is more important than breathing. It is and it isn't.

What good is an end you can't reach, or worse, you can reach but it's wrong?

lupire··on Amazon vs. Perplexity – U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit
And now you see the business value of Nueralink with DRM.

Disintermediation.

It's Amazon's whole business model.

lupire··on Cloud in a Bottle: making self-hosting accessible to everyone
10 years ago Google Photos already had AutoAwesome with Hasslehoff Photo bombing.
lupire··on Cloud in a Bottle: making self-hosting accessible to everyone
Ruby ln Rails and are you sure you need all that? Do you have dozens of interrelated products with a billion users for each?
lupire··on Cloud in a Bottle: making self-hosting accessible to everyone
Ethos is lived not told.
lupire··on Cloud in a Bottle: making self-hosting accessible to everyone
If it is fashionable for 20-30 years running across multiple categories, maybe it's actually valuable and worthwhile.
lupire··on Cloud in a Bottle: making self-hosting accessible to everyone
Because it's not as conventient or functional as cloud and they don't pay me to talk it up.
lupire··on No country for mediocre mathematicians
PhD in naturalism (stamp-collecting AI proofs), not a PhD in math. The AI is the one earning the PhD in math.
lupire··on Hackers Broke into Justice Department, NASA, Federal Reserve, Senate
"domain seizures"

Why do attackers need domains, instead of relying on a list of controlled IP addresses? That seems incredibly fragile.

lupire··on Show HN: How much of Hacker News is AI?
Who would do this project and not use an LLM to classify what counts as "AI"?
lupire··on It’s so hard to finish an idea that is not yours and is just suggested by AI
I don't understand. Are you saying that AI should write notes but then they should be excluded from the AI's context?
lupire··on It’s so hard to finish an idea that is not yours and is just suggested by AI
It's also hard to finish an idea that is mine.
lupire··on It’s so hard to finish an idea that is not yours and is just suggested by AI
Doesn't need to be "up front", but you do need to curate the context.

AI can't read your mind, and it will read what you (or anyone else) wrote.

lupire··on Canada will match US tariffs 'dollar for dollar' as trade talks break down
Negative sum, not zero sum.
lupire··on And then the men with guns tell you to do it anyway
SK government is solving that problem by ending the war with NK
lupire··on If your agent commits a crime, who is responsible?
Your sign the document affirming that the information is accurate.
lupire··on If your agent commits a crime, who is responsible?
There is centuries old legal doctrine on the subtleties of criminal intent and negligence and liability. You didn't discover a gotcha that thousands of lawyers never noticed.
lupire··on Google is making private AI practical with homomorphic encryption
Look at DRAM price on a Moore's Law chart.
lupire··on Google is making private AI practical with homomorphic encryption
It doesn't matter how efficient it is because the user base for that workflow is microscopic
lupire··on Google is making private AI practical with homomorphic encryption
Why on earth do you need a backend for this? The backend only exists because it leaks the data.
lupire··on Google is making private AI practical with homomorphic encryption
Is that (LLM) AI, though?
