this looks amazing, and ruby based too! looking into it now!
lukeholder··on Stamplay: IFTTT for developers

lukeholder··on Stamplay: IFTTT for developers

would love to see an open source initiative in this space. Might even give it a go, anyone interested? Would love to host my own trigger / web hook service that i can use across applications.
lukeholder··on Podcasts are back and making money
I listen to more content in the car through podcasts than I do browsing the web while at a desk, its a passive activity that can be done while driving.
lukeholder··on Ask HN: What has been your experience with self-taught engineers?
I would suggest not focusing on it either way. Just focus on the projects you have built, the technology you used, and your skills in delivering.
lukeholder··on Your brain makes decisions while you sleep
Is there any research to suggest you can learn while sleep by listening to audio recordings? I have heard about it before but thought it was quackery?
lukeholder··on Show HN: ContentBuilder.js – JQuery Plugin to Write Anything Beautifully
One of the best features of Craft CMS is the idea that these blocks are core to the whole system (the matrix) http://buildwithcraft.com/features/matrix

edit: I am just a fan, not affiliated.

lukeholder··on The Apple Watch
The original iPhone was thick also when it came out. Wait till the 2nd revision.

I agree the price for the low end version is off but the high end versions I expect to be in the 1k-2k range.

lukeholder··on Mail-in-a-Box
wow, that look awesome, thanks for sharing. Especially like that it is a ansible playbook!
lukeholder··on Show HN: The New Kobra.io – “Google Docs” for Code, No Reg Required
This is an excellent product built by a talented marketer, I wish it all the luck in the world. Great for a quick pairing session.
lukeholder··on How do dolphins sleep without drowning? [video]
I have heard of Cowboys sleeping with eyes open, but not sure if thats just a old wives tale.
lukeholder··on Ask HN: What programming font do you use?
Its not just in discussion, a person has been commissioned and working on it for quite a while. it was 2 days he push the latest version.
lukeholder··on Gogs: a self-hosted Git Service written in Go
Thanks for your work on Gogs! looks forward to seeing it grow. Would love to help out on the front end - let me know if you are needing any contributors.
lukeholder··on Gogs: a self-hosted Git Service written in Go
What i love about Go from a user of some of the open source apps like Gogs, is that its so easy to get the application running.

A single binary with zero dependancies is so awesome. With a ruby on rails app I need to worry about ruby version, ruby implementation, gem versions, compilation of C based gems, etc etc. With Go i simply copy up the binary and run it.

lukeholder··on MySQL: Why “My”?
Does anyone know of resources (books, tutorials, gotchas, blog posts) for switching an application (with no orm) from MySQL to Postgres?
lukeholder··on Vedeu: Ruby-based terminal GUI framework
This looks fantastic, look forward to trying it out. I have built various csv conversion scripts for people to use at work, and have been using the awesome highline[0] option parser, but i would make people feel so much more comfortable with a more usable interface.

lukeholder··on Introducing Rec Room
wow, must have missed this release, thanks. At first glance i much prefer this stack over the mozilla one. For example gulp is far better than grunt.
lukeholder··on Email Is Still the Best Thing on the Internet
tell that to app.net
lukeholder··on My iOS Indie-Game Numbers
maybe link to the english version of the app store page for the one you spent $1500 on ads for.
lukeholder··on ‘Remote control’ contraceptive chip available ‘by 2018’
Might seem pedantic but its the 'Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation', not the Bill Gates
lukeholder··on Jarvis: Personal assistant via SMS
This is a result of the whole lean movement. Validate your idea with customer feedback before you spend a bunch of money. Yes it means things will be a little smoke and mirrors to begin with but that doesn't mean the founders are not capable of delivering what is being proposed.

They may have thought through all of your questions but decided not to have firm answers right now in order to validate the idea, and not the technology.

lukeholder··on Show HN: OneBody Church Directory software I've been hacking on for 7 years
do you have the book of mormon available on that api?
lukeholder··on MacBook Air Stickers
This is a keen observation that make a surprising conclusion. I made the same observation but had a completely different reaction.

The stuttering was actually a motif to show this are pictures of different laptops of real people. It also completely tied into the music which was of a stuttery and impactful tone. It was obviously an intentional technique. You will notice that the laptops were also scuffed and looked used.

The whole ad was about how personal a macbook is to its owner. I think apple have been concerned mac's are now so 'mainstream' they want to encourage the view that you are your macbook.

lukeholder··on Show HN: Pagekit – A new, modern CMS built with Symfony components
There are some new CSM's out there that are growing at an amazing rate. I have been a part of the craft cms[0] community since beta and now they have their own stack overflow (stack exchange) site which was the fastest any stack exchange site has ever been put into production from user voting and participation.

I encourage everyone to check it out.

lukeholder··on Progress Bar Badge for GitHub README Files
I assume various options to the look and functionality could be added and having the request go to an application as opposed to a static file first allows that opportunity. In addition, there is nothing stopping them forwarding the request to a cached result on a CDN.
lukeholder··on Camels and humps: a retraction [pdf]
my result was: "Your answers are consistent on the C0 level." I am not sure that that means though?
lukeholder··on Making of Aprilzero
I disagree, a lot of people crate massively good work but never self promote. Not that he is self promoting, but the point stands producing high quality work does not mean fame.
lukeholder··on Web Applications that Scale Forever and Upgrade Seamlessly [video]
seems like this would work with react[0] since react manages its own virtual DOM and its components combine js and html into a single unit.
