lukashrb··on What Silicon Valley gets about engineers that traditional companies do not
Are there any German companies that work like this?
lukashrb··on Haskell is a Bad Programming Language (2020)
I wonder is there any good research/data for this claim correlation between bugs and used language. I know there is some for development practices but it's independent from the language used.
lukashrb··on An Intuition for Lisp Syntax
You can get some of the interactivity through unit tests. Admittedly, the feedback loop is not always that tight as with the repl.
lukashrb··on Crux SQL
Anyone with experience has some detailed info about the limitation, trade-offs and problems of using Datalog instead of SQL? Datalog seems like a natural choice as declarative query language but has not yet become mainstream. I wonder why?
lukashrb··on Unofficial Guide to Datomic Internals (2014)
Not necessarily. Take a look at this implementation https://aosabook.org/en/500L/an-archaeology-inspired-databas...

There you can only retrieve the top layer and don't have to scan all historic data, it's only in-memory though.

lukashrb··on Unofficial Guide to Datomic Internals (2014)
Do you have more detailed info on this? I guess this could really help making a decision and understanding the tradeoff's of using datomic.
lukashrb··on Nubank acquires Cognitect
Touché :D, but to be fair the Clojure-Team (i guess Alex mostly) put a lot effort in it to improve the situation.
lukashrb··on Nubank acquires Cognitect
Interesting view. What are the 'out of the box functionalities' which Clojure is lacking? Keep in mind Clojure provides Java interop and with clojurescript js interop. The clojure ecosystem has also pretty great libraries to work with. For example take a look at fulcro or re-frame, also metosin works on some really great libraries and there is much more.
lukashrb··on Simple Made Easy (2011)
Everytime I read your name, you subtile spread some negativity :)

Maybe Hickey just didn't prioritized "types" as high as some other ideas to spend his time on. And in my opinion he focused on the right things and achieved something really great.

As general advice stay positiv, focus on the things you like instead of telling everyone what you don't like, it's better for your mental health ;)

lukashrb··on The Common Lisp Condition System – Upcoming Book
Does anyone know if it is possible to integrate such a system, as plugin, in clojure? Is there already a project like that?
lukashrb··on Programming at the REPL (2018)
Wow, thank you for taking the time and writing that down.

Just one question: How can I obtain the knowledge to build such a system?

lukashrb··on Programming at the REPL (2018)
Not that I'm an expert but I guess he was doing it the wrong way. I just use (comment...) blocks to preserve what I entered into the repl. These blocks are also easily turned into test cases. It feels kinda similar to tdd.
lukashrb··on Programming at the REPL (2018)
I always wonder why repl driven development is not as popular as it (in my opinion) deserves to be? Am I missing something here?
lukashrb··on Ask HN: What has more tools for simpler scraping, Python or JavaScript?
Since he ask for a language why do you limit the choice to python or js? I personally would recommend Java's Jsoup.
lukashrb··on Greatest Java apps
I like to add clojure it is written in Java, so I guess it counts.

But seriously what do you like about Java and why did you choose to work with it? What problem does it solve for you? I'm curious! (don't comment when you don't like it)

lukashrb··on Mozilla VPN
100% this. I'm currently waiting for the ProtonMail calendar and still looking for an easy file sync solution. I tried syncthing today but it's really not that comfortable to use....
lukashrb··on Time to Upgrade Your Monitor
>The best developers I've known wrote code with tiny laptops with poor 1366x768 displays.

I'm sorry to say this but that is not a real argument.

lukashrb··on Crux: Open-source document database with bi-temporal graph queries
Ty for the link. Do you have more material that helped you with your work on crux? And do you mind sharing?
lukashrb··on Crux: Open-source document database with bi-temporal graph queries
I wonder what stop people adopting those tools/tech. E.g. a database like crux sounds pretty compelling to use for me.
lukashrb··on A History of Clojure [pdf]
A great read! What I really appreciate, beside all the technical stuff, is the effort to create a positive and helpful community around Clojure.

From the paper: "When I first was learning Common Lisp I was appalled at the tolerance on Usenet comp.lang.lispof arrogance, hostility, intimidation and other anti-social behavior of the presumed ‘smartest guys in the room’. I was determined (a) that the Clojure community would not be hosted there and (b) that kind of behavior would not be tolerated. Early on, on IRC and the mailing list, I established and required a tone of supportiveness, positivity and respect."
