luckydata··on Google breaks promise to provide 10 years of updates to Chromebooks
they do not. I don't work there anymore and don't have any particular goodwill towards the employer that laid me off last year but I can guarantee that any data related to the education sector is under extremely strict controls.
luckydata··on Gemini 4 Argon
why reinvent the wheel and spend tokens for a problem that has already been solved?
luckydata··on I made a visual workspace for AI Automations
I honestly don't get what problem this solves. I see a lot of pretty animations but I struggle to understand why I should care.
luckydata··on What California is learning from solar panels built over irrigation canals
killer robots will solve the problem don't worry
luckydata··on Show HN: Radius – A Meetup.com Alternative
nope, I just created a user with google single sign on I believe.
luckydata··on Show HN: Radius – A Meetup.com Alternative
I have to say the site is quite bad, unfocused, disappointing essentially by design... I signed up and immediately pinned me in the UK (I'm in the Bay Area), it's called radius and ironically has no radius to limit groups around me...

I don't know exactly WHY this site should deserve the user's time.

luckydata··on Go-based Robotics Framework built around NATS.io
the readme written by Claude is annoying. At least it explains what the project does but imho the writing needs a healthy human pass to remove all the bullshit phrasing "Gorai stops pretending otherwise..." perfect example.
luckydata··on Astra and Fable still hack on simple variants of alignment evals from 2025
the implication is drive and impulse to behave a certain way doesn't come from "intelligence"
luckydata··on Waymo pulls over, calls cops on juvenile riders who had 'ghost gun"
a taxi driver will call the police if you do anything stupid inside them, usually after dropping you in the middle of the street, your argument doesn't hold any water.
luckydata··on ElevenLabs Music v2.5
this is for things like elevator and lobby music, background music for infomercials etc... it's simply not economically plausible to hire a person, plus it's a hassle, and royalty free libraries are a hassle to use.
luckydata··on GPT-6 Astra, looped transformers, and hidden reasoning
someone already does that https://aistupidlevel.info/
luckydata··on How well do agents use test/verification techniques?
without knowing the prompts and the test setup this exercise is essentially devoid of any value. I need to get into blogging more, there's no barrier to entry!
luckydata··on Muse – Meta’s personal AI agent
I think this is another VR moment for Meta. It wasn't necessarily a terrible idea to invest in VR - I mean it was but let's suspend disbelief for a moment - but Meta is not the company that would succeed in that market. Meta is not a hardware company, not really, and is not an "experiences" company. VR would have had to rely on a lot of premium content, and either you have a company like Disney controlling their own ecosystem or who do you think Disney is going to work with, Meta or Apple?

I tried to explain to my Meta colleagues with the virtual reality push was absolutely doomed to fail no matter how good the hardware was and this is the same. Nobody is going to look at Meta for a personal assistant, the world has caught on and besides nobody things about Facebook as the place that is useful, that's Google.

luckydata··on The two Christian saints who are the Buddha
I'm Italian, I thought using the full word instead of eliding the last "e" was an archaic florentine habit that the author used, didn't think much of it tbh.
luckydata··on LLMs as a Cognitive Virus
is this a real paper? read like some kind of parody.
luckydata··on K2 Horizon: A connected fleet of six open models
both repositories for pre-training and post-training are actually empty... someone might have jumped the gun on the release.
luckydata··on Thoughts on Pope Leo XIV's Magnifica Humanitas
who gives a shit tbh, argue with the substance, not the style.
luckydata··on AWS Acquires DuckLabs
This is an enormously wide question but the quickest way to give you an idea would be rephrasing as:

"Are cars not a solved problem? Why are there lots of different cars? Why is one faster than the other? What's different between them?"

I think the best way to approach the subject in an easy to grasp way is to ask Gemini or another frontier AI to teach you the basics, they will do a surprisingly good job and they'll be able to react to your questions with INFINITE patience.

luckydata··on We Rebuilt the Linux MicroVM Stack on Apple Silicon
Someone should build a capable technical writing model, would make a TON of money
luckydata··on New paper shows that 37% of workers in US saw real wages decline from 2021-2024 [pdf]
Me for example.
luckydata··on Google is making private AI practical with homomorphic encryption
when I worked at google I was known to be a very effective "legal whisperer". I spent more time in legal reviews in the last decade than you'll ever spend in the entirety of your life as I was working on infrastructure dealing with tons of PII working across the globe. I'm pretty sure I know what I'm talking about here.
luckydata··on Google is making private AI practical with homomorphic encryption
every single word. this is a project to enable private AI use cases which is a very real concern for a lot of enterprise customers dealing with highly sensitive data (think about healthcare and police work for example) and has nothing to do in any way shape or form with ads. The guy probably used to work or still works at Google but doesn't mean he understands what he's talking about.
luckydata··on Anthropic's 'watermark' text adulteration in Claude is a perversion of writing
is that why everything Claude writes lately sounds like a riddle?
luckydata··on Claude: System Prompts
the product information could be put in a skill, I don't see the value of polluting the system prompt with that much info about claude the product. Anthropic you're welcome.
luckydata··on The Ploopy A+ Trackball Is Here
I'm really put off by the poor quality of the 3d printed body
luckydata··on Google is making private AI practical with homomorphic encryption
you are 100% correct, this product is to enable things like healthcare and generally AI subscription stuff that otherwise people wouldn't touch because of sensitivity to disclosing sensitive data.
luckydata··on Google is making private AI practical with homomorphic encryption
and you don't know who I am. I might have been closer to that work than you would know.
luckydata··on Why does Opus 5 feel worse to work with?
Reading Opus AND Fable's output gives me a headache.
luckydata··on Google is making private AI practical with homomorphic encryption
you can produce a correct result without knowing what that result means as long as the person you then provide that result to can decrypt it. So the way it works is the server does the job on data it can't read, sends an answer to the device, the device decrypts it.

It's very useful for things like healthcare data for example but also for products like "home assistants", and it's one of the use cases that the team hiring internally was giving in their job req. I tried to apply too but didn't get it unfortunately, this was a very interesting product to work on imho, congrats to whoever got my job :)
