luckydata··on K2 Horizon: A connected fleet of six open models
both repositories for pre-training and post-training are actually empty... someone might have jumped the gun on the release.
luckydata··on Thoughts on Pope Leo XIV's Magnifica Humanitas
who gives a shit tbh, argue with the substance, not the style.

This is an enormously wide question but the quickest way to give you an idea would be rephrasing as:

"Are cars not a solved problem? Why are there lots of different cars? Why is one faster than the other? What's different between them?"

I think the best way to approach the subject in an easy to grasp way is to ask Gemini or another frontier AI to teach you the basics, they will do a surprisingly good job and they'll be able to react to your questions with INFINITE patience.

when I worked at google I was known to be a very effective "legal whisperer". I spent more time in legal reviews in the last decade than you'll ever spend in the entirety of your life as I was working on infrastructure dealing with tons of PII working across the globe. I'm pretty sure I know what I'm talking about here.

every single word. this is a project to enable private AI use cases which is a very real concern for a lot of enterprise customers dealing with highly sensitive data (think about healthcare and police work for example) and has nothing to do in any way shape or form with ads. The guy probably used to work or still works at Google but doesn't mean he understands what he's talking about.
luckydata··on Anthropic's 'watermark' text adulteration in Claude is a perversion of writing
is that why everything Claude writes lately sounds like a riddle?
luckydata··on Claude: System Prompts
the product information could be put in a skill, I don't see the value of polluting the system prompt with that much info about claude the product. Anthropic you're welcome.

you are 100% correct, this product is to enable things like healthcare and generally AI subscription stuff that otherwise people wouldn't touch because of sensitivity to disclosing sensitive data.

you can produce a correct result without knowing what that result means as long as the person you then provide that result to can decrypt it. So the way it works is the server does the job on data it can't read, sends an answer to the device, the device decrypts it.

It's very useful for things like healthcare data for example but also for products like "home assistants", and it's one of the use cases that the team hiring internally was giving in their job req. I tried to apply too but didn't get it unfortunately, this was a very interesting product to work on imho, congrats to whoever got my job :)

You are very wrong about all of this btw.
luckydata··on Suzanne: AI tool for designing and manufacturing physical products
an agent could run a finite element analysis or some kind of generative design algorithm, it's not new stuff all of it is already available in Fusion by Autodesk.
luckydata··on Suzanne: AI tool for designing and manufacturing physical products
the video in the site is complete bullshit, it's just showing it can export parts in known 3d formats... so what? Show me what the AI is capable to do in an iteration. This seems like mostly vaporware and nothing concrete.
luckydata··on Software is about people, not code (2020)
a truism but also not that interesting. why is this getting upvoted?

when it comes to security popularity doesn't matter all that much. If something is not used and insecure then the decision should be to drop the feature, not to ignore the security issue.

There's so many but I'll give you an easy one: usury is legal in the US.

Another easy one: the US has legalized political bribery to a degree that would (and has) landed many European politicians in prison for years.

luckydata··on Gemini Robotics 2 brings whole body intelligence to robots
you don't need to be an introvert to find that line of reasoning short sighted. I'm plenty extroverted and I still don't want to deal with people coming to my house to clean it. It's very invasive and they rarely do a good job. A robot that I can "train" to do exactly what I need and constantly works in the background would be a HUGE value add to my lifestyle.
luckydata··on Gemini Robotics 2 brings whole body intelligence to robots
it's not cheap at all and the privacy and logistical implications of letting a stranger inside your house is something not everyone wants to deal with. I would rather have a robot.
luckydata··on Gemini Robotics 2 brings whole body intelligence to robots
if you give me a robot that cleans the house and can do dishes and laundry I'll easily pay the cost of a compact car for that. I know a LOT of working families that would feel similarly.

absolute freedom of speech is not a value or constitutional right in most european countries. I don't understand why americans can't get comfortable with the notion that other countries have different laws. There's plenty of things that could be considered bizarre and arbitrary in the US form the perspective of a european, I know full well being one living in California for 20 years.
luckydata··on AI Companies Are Trying to Hide a Staggering Amount of Debt
the downvotes are just further proof of how stupidly this kind of discussion is handled on hacker news. It's demoralizing the lack of quality this community shows lately.
luckydata··on AI Companies Are Trying to Hide a Staggering Amount of Debt
they aren't trying to hide anything, those are accounting rules that are applied to the letter. I'm feeling like I'm taking crazy pills whenever I see this stuff about AI, your hate boner for a specific technology shouldn't trigger you saying things that are provably untrue.

this project is a monument to the HUGE failure of the Workspace team at Google to enable agent editing in a way that makes sense.

Google is really shitting the bed in all the way that matters on GenAI and being an ex employee of Cloud I am not in the least surprised about it, just really sad.
