lucaspottersky··on Stop Learning Frameworks
Makes sense, however the practical application might help you gasp the theoretical concepts...

"Experience without theory is blind, but theory without experience is mere intellectual play."

lucaspottersky··on Ask HN: YouTube down?
major outage worldwide i'd say. im from brazil
lucaspottersky··on Messenger systems compared by security, privacy, compatibility, and features
look at that, XMPP is the future! /sarcasm
lucaspottersky··on Ask HN: Got a CS degree, but I’m unable to be programmer. What can I do?
i've seen many "pivoting" to Project Management.
lucaspottersky··on Leaked Emails Show Google Expected Military Drone AI Work to Grow Exponentially
it sucks that companies have this tendency to become nasty business
lucaspottersky··on Google show signs of reconsidering auto mute after developer critique
there's got to be a "Silent Navigation" equivalent to the "Icognito/Private Navigation".

Silent Navigation would block videos, audio, notifications, have an adblocker built-in etc.

that's the dream browser in 2018 IMO.

lucaspottersky··on Google show signs of reconsidering auto mute after developer critique
isn't the "Allow website to send Notifications" prompt on 99% of mainstream websites irritating enough?
lucaspottersky··on De-Googling my phone
besides everything else mentioned before, i feel like this is a double-sword situation. centralizing every aspect of your life into 1 company gives them a much more refined picture about yourself than if your info were scattared around with other companies.
lucaspottersky··on The End of Windows
Linux desktop will never thrive. I'm sorry to tell you that.

it's more likely that some other player just releases a completely new OS to replace Windows. just like Chrome replaced IE (and not Firefox).

lucaspottersky··on Laws of UX
i loved the fact that a site about UX doesn't allow me to open the links in new tabs... sooo annoying! damn it!
lucaspottersky··on Ask HN: Why is Docker so popular in comparison to other containerization tech?
for me, because when i first heard about it my options were Chef/Puppet (with Vagrant)... so Docker was much, much simpler to get started.

in the past years they've been adding a lot of complexity though... :meh:

lucaspottersky··on Apple Plans Combined iPhone, iPad and Mac Apps to Create One User Experience
there we go again...

people failed so many times before... let's see what they can bring to the table now.

lucaspottersky··on Microsoft Adds an OpenSSH Client to Windows 10
yep, welcome to 1999. geez.
lucaspottersky··on Flexbox and Grids: your layout’s best friends
i've just fell in love with Grid's pragmatic approach!

even if it doesn't cover specific edge cases, its simplicity pays off.

lucaspottersky··on Electron.Net: Build cross platform desktop apps using .NET core and ASP.NET core
so, could somebody make a quick summary of what's currently available for building desktop apps (self-contained that doesn't require the user to install a runtime)?
lucaspottersky··on CKEditor 5: New approach to rich text editing on the web
I feel like all of these web "WYSIWYG editors" should be renamed to "WYSI _not_ WYG editor"... :(
lucaspottersky··on ZeroNet: Decentralized websites using Bitcoin crypto and the BitTorrent network
oh man, i hate those software that automatically try to guess the user language! even more annoying when it chooses the wrong language for you. in my case PT (Portugal) instead of PT-BR.

argh.

lucaspottersky··on W3C abandons consensus, standardizes DRM, EFF resigns
as the standard gets bloatted, new players could leverage this weakness and build something entirely new. yes, reinvent the wheel. =)
lucaspottersky··on Firefox Multi-Account Containers
this is _AWESOME_!!!

maybe the best feature since HTML5 has gone mainstream!

i'm so tired of using Icognito Window for that!

lucaspottersky··on Introduction to HTML Components
> "Why did IE5’s HTML Components never quite catch on?"

because technology per se is just one of the variables that matter. For example, you are missing things like "timing", "marketing strategy" and a whole lot of other things. =)

lucaspottersky··on Show HN: A stop-motion video of an engine
nice ad. however, the tech side doesn't seem to have received as much love.

#1 PayPal returned me to an invalid URL after finishing the payment

#2 I've paid & logged in, nevertheless the website still shows me links to "buy the course".

lucaspottersky··on Alibaba Cloud
well, I guess China isn't that cheap anymore...
lucaspottersky··on Atlassian acquires Trello for $425M
clearly overpaid... not worth. my opinion. =)
lucaspottersky··on Pebble's next step
wow.

this sounds like "yeah, f*ck ya'all up, we are leaving this boat".

i guess that's what you get from "small startups".

lucaspottersky··on Show HN: Mest – Place to talk with those you disagree with
its pretty cool. but as for me, i already spend 80% of my interactions talking to people i disagree with, i think i have enough of it already =)
lucaspottersky··on The Most Popular Keys of All Music on Spotify (2015)
TLDR: G Major because it's convinient to play both for Keyboard & Guitar.

Sorry if it's old news for you. Not sure about the rules of the forum.

lucaspottersky··on Why we chose Vue.js
Today's "simple" is tomorrow's "complex".

1. someone trims your product down and ship it as "simpler than X" 2. people asks for more and more 3. now you have a complex product 4. repeat

lucaspottersky··on Why we chose Vue.js
Why? because you're a bunch of hipsters that can't stick to the mainstream technologies =)

As an opensource project, it'd be easier to get contributors if you could just stick with Angular.js, for example.

lucaspottersky··on Why kernel development still uses email
Simple: humans don't like change.

We say we do like it, but the truth is that we don't.

lucaspottersky··on An Important Message About Yahoo User Security
i always think this kind of sites are there just to get email address that are supposedly "important" or "active"...
