lssndrdn··on Plowing Detroit Into Farmland
Government could take an active role and redefine zoning laws to allow for agricultural areas in some formerly urban areas. Other cities in Michigan have done something similar: Flint started a program to assist moving residents out of sparsely populated, heavily foreclosed areas, into more densely populated areas, consolidating people and turning abandoned neighborhoods into parkland.
lssndrdn··on Microsoft calls Zoho the "Fake Office" - Zoho responds with a zinger
i don't mean to be trolling in the general MS-bashing mood, but this is consistent with a lot of, let's say, grey-area marketing they have done in the past (see internet explorer).

And, you can call bing the fake google, but not "fake search".

Having said that, best of luck to Zoho.

lssndrdn··on How Goldman secretly bet on the U.S. housing crash
How is this news?
lssndrdn··on Ask HN: do you feel Google search result quality has gone down?
I agree with the points made by others here, about the quality of links being degraded in recent times, lots of SEO in lots of websites that are meant to just play with pagerank, and a general crowding of results with old and irrelevant stuff.

I find myself alternating between google and bing these days, for some technical searches sometimes bing works better (especially - and unsurprisingly - for Microsoft-related technologies).

Some competition from bing may lead us to a better google (just like competition from apple made microsoft's new OS better).

lssndrdn··on Google Climbs to New Heights of Arrogance with Wave
Maybe Google Wave won't be as revolutionary as some think, but calling Google arrogant for coming up with new stuff seems just ranting for the sake of ranting.
lssndrdn··on Ask HN: Please review mailop.com, an instant disposable email you don't even need to check
I wouldn't use bold for the entire page. It makes it harder to read.
lssndrdn··on Computer Experts Unite to Hunt Worm
"I walked up to a neurosurgeon and asked him about a million-node botnet, and never got an answer".

I guess the NYT has to water stuff down for the masses to an extent when they treat technical matters, but I never suspected that they could be so far off...

lssndrdn··on The Real AIG Scandal
I have been wondering some of the same questions. It seems like Goldman Sachs is one of the best-positioned large bank in this whole thing. Now they get to eat the cake and have it too? Am I missing something?
lssndrdn··on Unintelligent Design
In a way, it's not all that surprising that virus might have been around for longer than other living forms, being simpler and with less moving parts. It's the KISS principle of life, I guess.
