lsen001··on Telegram, Apple, Belarus, and Conflating ‘Irrelevance’ with ‘Inconvenience’
“The first rule about fight club is you don't talk about fight club.”

Apple doesn't want negative information spread about it, and if they can control it, they'll definitely try. Very shady of Apple.

lsen001··on Daydreaming about the future instead of doing work today
What's your target audience? Who are you building apps for? Yourself, with 64GB of RAM, or much more common users with 4-16GB?
lsen001··on Daydreaming about the future instead of doing work today
I found it confusing. Article says "Do the work" but gave 2 choices for the friend: "What’s the priority? Writing software for future use cases, or finding an assembler to build the signs for him?" If the friend wants to grow the project into a business, this is a false dichotomy. The friend should be doing both: adding value to his project by doing what he does best (enhance the product offering) as well as delegating jobs that someone else can do (find a builder). Either choice is "doing the work". Also, the friend has to be able to walk and chew gum at the same time if he wants to expand.

It sounds like you feel happiness only occurs when you have money. That will be true if your happiness can be purchased. Happiness is not the sole domain of billionaires (I'd almost assume the opposite). Regardless of income or financial standing, we all have the same amount of time in the present - spend it more on the things that you value most.

You know it's unnecessary if you didn't have to say a word during the meeting.
lsen001··on Google to Sell Zagat to The Infatuation, an Upstart Review Site
Truth be told, I haven't heard of The Infatuation until today. However, I have heard of Zagat and imbue a level of trust with that brand name. I may not represent your main target audience, but I've done many searches for restaurant recommendations, mostly on Yelp (with the appropriate grain of salt). Now, I'm curious - has the idea of fully assuming the Zagat name been kicked around? It's been a while since the Google acquisition, however, it's been around so long that there's still good name recognition.

Have you looked at Rev.com? Video transcription is $1/min. Accuracy is pretty good too. If you need to tweak it, it's just a text file with time codes.
lsen001··on Poor kids who do things right don't do better than rich kids who do things wrong
Agreed - this article is quite disingenuous.

From the graphs provided, comparing them makes no sense. Each should be taken own its own; i.e. At the start of college, 100% of the poor kids where in the lowest income percentile. At age 40, only 16% remain. Whereas, for the high school dropouts, only 14% remained in their income percentile (the highest) at age 40.

I think that describes a meritocracy very well. The opportunity is there - you have to work at it.

On the contrary, I find it awesome. Having choices is much better than not. It just shows the maturity of the entire tech ecosystem. Just take everything with a grain of salt, evaluate if any new tool/library matches your particular need/use case, do a quick proof of concept if so, and adapt if successful. Rinse and repeat. Change is good. Embrace it.
lsen001··on Apple's Tim Cook Voluntarily Forgoes $75 Million Payout
Why keep the money at Apple? Why not set up a foundation/donate it to a charity? Could go just as well for Apple's stingy reputation toward charities.
