ls_stats··on Tells of a Slop UI
The biggest tell of slop UI is the intersection of fancy styling and disfunctional UX. AI absolutely cannot do UX by itself.
ls_stats··on On the Navier–Stokes Millennium Prize Problem
Well, if that's actually true, I think America needs to start talking about the nationalization of both OpenAI and Anthropic, maybe even merge both under a new federal bureau.
ls_stats··on Muse Spark 1.3
Is it really hard to understand that there's no good guys? Amodei, Altman, Zuckerberg, Musk, etc. They all sound the same to me.
ls_stats··on Qwen3.8-Flash-Next
Deepseek 0732 is $0.22/$0.66 off peak
ls_stats··on Gemini 3.7 Flash
I don't get it, Google could heavily subsidy their Gemini models to make it more attractive, but they prefer to not do it. I don't know one soul who is using Gemini models to code. Even OpenAI who doesn't have money or capacity is offering their Luna model at $1.2 per 1M/out.
ls_stats··on Advancing the price-performance frontier with GPT‑5.6
Is it though? I saw a noticeable difference between Sol (xhigh) and Luna (max). Sol appears to understand better my prompts, you need to be more specific/clear with Luna.
ls_stats··on Our position on open-weights models
Yeah, like bombing a children school, the CCP did that not long ago.
ls_stats··on Our position on open-weights models
>My primary concern is the risk that authoritarian governments—not solely the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), although the CCP is clearly the most capable threat—build AI models that are more powerful than those built by the US, and use them to achieve permanent military superiority or perpetrate incredibly deep repression of their own people.

This reads like a satire. I know Dario isn't that dumb.

ls_stats··on OpenAI and Anthropic unite against open-weight AI risks to their bottom line
So, they are just going to ban chinese models, close their eyes and pretend that both Anthropic and OpenAI are worth $1T?
ls_stats··on Inkling: Our Open-Weights Model
America needs its own DeepSeek or Z.ai, a lot of people (myself included) root for open chinese models to win because they have no other choice.

Thinking Machines might be it.

ls_stats··on GPT-5.6
The most impressive part is the token efficiency/cost per task of 5.6 Sol, it makes Opus 4.8 and Fable look extremely bad ($1.04 vs $1.80 vs $2.75)[0].

And 5.6 Luna ($0.21) is also impressive, cheaper than GLM 5.2 ($0.37) with higher intelligence.

ls_stats··on Xiaomi MiMo-v2.5 Series API Permanent Price Reduction Up to 99%
Why are you using Openrouter as metric here? Most people use the APIs directly.
ls_stats··on Gemini 3.5 Flash
>3.5 Flash was more expensive than 3.1 Pro to run the Artifical Analysis test suite

That's everything I needed to know.

ls_stats··on Gemini 3.5 Flash
You are seeing batch inference, standard inference is $1.5/$9. I was excited until I saw that price.
ls_stats··on Cognition (Devin AI) to Acquire Windsurf
Isn't Devin AI basically a scam, selling an "AI Software Engineer" when no such thing exists.
ls_stats··on Grok 4
Uh... maybe because he doesn't want to use technology that gives power to someone like Elon Musk, who is well known for propagating right-wing propaganda.
ls_stats··on GPT-4.5
>I feel like OpenAI is pursuing AGI

I don't think so, the "AGI guy" was Ilya Sutskever, he is gone, he wanted to make OpenAI "less comercial", AGI is just a buzzword for Altmann.

ls_stats··on Musk-led group makes $97B bid for control of OpenAI
So... not wanting to have people around with enough money to buy a US president is... Marxism?
ls_stats··on Musk-led group makes $97B bid for control of OpenAI
>I typically like Elon about 70% of the time

>I don't quite understand how he suddenly got so much influence.

then you don't know much about him

ls_stats··on Chat is a bad UI pattern for development tools
>it's actually a good UI >I just finished a small project >around 2200 lines

why the top comments on HN are always people who have not read the article

ls_stats··on OpenAI O3-Mini
That's pretty much what Altman said about GPT-3 (or 2, I don't remember), he said it was too dangerous to release to the public.
ls_stats··on Promising results from DeepSeek R1 for code
Cool, let's see if in 2027 Anthropic still exists.
ls_stats··on If not React, then what?
>Try loading up a library heavy site (i.e. React plus a half dozen associated helpers for state, UI and whatever, which is pretty common) on an old or cheap Android device.

that was the case in 2015 when entry level android devices were quite slow, nowdays a cheap $200 android phone has at least 4-6GB of RAM and an eight core processor.

if that isn't enough for your react powered site, you are doing something very wrong.

ls_stats··on Microsoft and OpenAI's close partnership shows signs of fraying
>If you want to create a religion

I think he is making an allusion to Apple's culture.

There's successful companies because their product is good, there's more successful companies because they started early (and it feels like a monopoly: Google, Microsoft), and there's the most successful company that tells you what you are going to buy (Apple's culture).
