lowglow··on How Evil Is Tech?
I wonder how many commenters here work for/with big tech.

Can I just email you through your site? Is there contact info there?

It was SOOOO Long ago I don't even remember my handle back then. That was a long time ago. What are you up to now?

I think the author, Neozeed, is the person back in the day when I asked them to teach me how to "hack", they instead taught me what telnet was and that there was a larger network beyond AOL. It lead me to what I am today. Thanks.

There's a pretty extensive list of maker and hackerspaces around the world here: https://baqqer.com/places/

lowglow··on Keeping a Lab Notebook [pdf]
I went to school for both chemistry and electrical engineering. I've since acquired the habit of using a lab notebook with everything I do. It's an amazingly useful utility both for recall but also record keeping.

Make it a habit yourself and you won't be disappointed.

lowglow··on Tesla will reveal its semi this Thursday, and Musk promises to 'blow your mind'
Techendo predicted the rise of Elon Musk on an old episode way back in the day. Now I'm quite honestly tired of hearing about the hype. The fatigue is real.

lowglow··on History of AOL Warez
Agh, I wish I could list off all the channels I was in without outing myself lol. Those were sick times. :) Best group of hackers I've ever met.

Curious how many people still keep up with their old groups? Did any of you become lifelong friends?

lowglow··on What is a Bitcoin fork?
Not at the moment. I'm sure I can get this re-uploaded to youtube later tomorrow and follow up with a link.
lowglow··on What is a Bitcoin fork?
Jackson Palmer (Dogecoin founder) talks all about the Bitcoin fork at the last local Hack Days meetup[0]. It's actually a really great talk.

You can see Bram announce this a month ago at the local Crypto Builders Meetup[0]. He talks about it in depth.

lowglow··on Internet Association Endorses Internet Censorship Bill
Things like this that worry me and make me diametrically opposed to any of the big company employees holding seats of authority at any body residing over any spec or working groups as well. They'll never have the user's interest at heart.
lowglow··on X-Men: The Animated Series – Unlikely Story of the '90s Cartoon Hit
This cartoon was my jam. Growing up on comics as a kid with idols like Tony Stark, etc and all the sci-fi future stuff, just made me want to become an engineer/scientist.

Palo Alto is one of the few places it's actually legal to sleep in a vehicle. El Camino is a good (but loud) spot to sleep at where you won't get hassled by cops.

For sure! Come on out, we film every Sunday at ~2pm. We're at Noisebridge in SF near 18th + Mission Street.

Hack Days talks a lot about this and how Bitcoin mirrors Linux in a lot of ways @ the 59 minute mark:

lowglow··on The data economy demands a new approach to antitrust rules
Super appreciated. Are you working in the space?
lowglow··on The data economy demands a new approach to antitrust rules
I agree. We originally wanted to build an appliance for it, but hardware is hard. So we abstracted out what we could and while we use "people" contributing data, the reality is that any agent (IoT, etc) on the network can participate.
lowglow··on The data economy demands a new approach to antitrust rules
I'm fascinated by what's going to happen in the post (monopolized) data economy. When data acquisition can happen autonomously, beyond HITL. Taking that data and building, growing, and strengthening intelligence could scale up something huge and interesting. We're currently building a decentralized data and machine learning marketplace and network to answer the question: What would happen if agents could sell their data in open markets?

We think it would be cool to see that data be used in turn to help continuously train ML models. It starts to look like an integral part of AI economies.

lowglow··on 150 days of living and coding in a van
I tried this around SF Bay Area. Unfortunately SF isn't as van-friendly as I would have liked, and the high crime rate and high rate of break-ins left me less than desiring to stay in SF. Had a friend successfully camp out in East Bay, but got sick of it.

I moved down to Redwood City but the cops basically harassed me, and treated me like a criminal. I finally would park in my van outside of Social Capital in Palo Alto.

Palo Alto remains a legal place to live the van life. You'll also meet a bunch of other van dwellers from tech companies around there. There is even a couple of secret facebook groups for nerds working/living out of their van in and around SF/BA.

lowglow··on No Bitcoin-based protocol can handle more than 20M users per month
We'd be down for someone to come out and chat about this at our next crypto builders meet-up at Noisebridge in SF on the 11th.[0]

Scaling is a huge point of interest when considering building on top of BTC or ETH.

I worked with the Assembly team that basically did this, without the complications of smart contracts/etc involved.

This is a hard problem for a number of reasons.
