lovich··on Record-High 89% in U.S. Say Government Corruption Widespread
Green names posting inflammatory shit deserve to be flagged in the age of bots.

At least build up some reputation before dropping hot takes. It’s not like this is Reddit where you’re stuck in a catch 22 of not participating in a lot of serious subreddits without a level of karma already, which can only be gained by engaging with the unserious bits.

What exactly did you mean by

> Yes possibly so I'd have to see the evidence for that,…

Then?

lovich··on Why are European countries moving their gold out of North America?
I think its eventually in that if we put our might behind it we could take probably any 2-3 major military powers on the planet at the current moment, but that's with the caveat that putting our might behind it means tens to hundreds of thousands of dead military members which we as a nation have lost the stomach for.

I am saying eventually in that I think we will not even be able to do that if we found our grit again in the coming years as long as we are prioritizing raising testosterone in individual soldiers and removing qualified women and minorities from our military over having competent leaders and prioritizing logistics.

lovich··on Why are European countries moving their gold out of North America?
lol, we(america) were the ones who fucked with the gold standard and had the system collapse due to lack of trust in the first place[1]

Please explain your logic behind the idea that European countries needed to have adopted the gold standard that the US unilaterally changed the rules on, to be independent from the US.

lovich··on Why are European countries moving their gold out of North America?
I mean, we were trusted but also not fully.

This isnt the first time European powers repatriated gold from the US. In 1971 France sent their navy to take their gold back because of another conservative US leader who decided to try and leverage our power at the expense of international trust and lost us a portion of said power[1].

I am an American. I preferred when we were stronger because we sweetened the deal enough with everyone else that they let us be world financier/police/anti piracy force/etc.

This fucking machismo theory taking over the older conservatives and the "The Torment Nexus was actually an awesome idea" taking over the tech bros and younger conservatives is fucking destroying us. Both groups seem incapable of believing in a win/win deal. Its also zero sum game to these fuckers and thus our soft power, and eventually our hard power, is being lost.

I don’t know why this should be surprising since it’s all out in the open now.

They made Carter give up his family peanut farm to be President.

Trump and his family are selling stock every week, running crypto currency rug pulls, accepting gifts ostensibly for the country that they say will be donated to Trump at the end of his term(the Qatar plane).

It’s all out in the open under Trump term 2.

At this point if you think there isn’t corruption I assume you also think RFK has the right idea about health care and vaccinations.

The OP was suggesting whoever deploys the agent has liability for its actions, not the creators of the models the agents are running.
lovich··on US Military disables ad trackers on troops' phones
Unless your Matt Gaetz and co, in which case you just storm into the SCIF with a recording device and are allowed to get away with it.
lovich··on US Military disables ad trackers on troops' phones
I mean, they are masked, right?

And they’ve been going around beating people and in a few cases killing them, like goons, right?

Just because terms can and have been used hyperbolically doesn’t mean that the same term cannot accurately describe other situations.

lovich··on Discovery of a new OpenAI agent message board
I wonder when pre Web 2.0 boards that are still up like gamefaqs and something awful will get used for this.
lovich··on Discovery of a new OpenAI agent message board
Do you think you are liability free if you’re operating a car on cruise control and it kills someone?
lovich··on New type of dice guarantees no tie when deciding who goes first
Or, like my gaming group does. Just roll again between whoever ties. And in the extremely rare event that you tie again, roll again. And if youve managed to get to the heat death of the universe and have tied three times, roll a fourth time.

And for the pedants, you arent rolling every microsecond for millennia to make it plausibly likely that you have that many ties. You are rolling a handful of times before a game.

Its an interesting math problem to solve, but its way more effort to solve than the real world solutions.

You don’t know if any politicians who are hostile to Europe via threatening to annex Greenland, not recognize the UK’s sovereign claims to the Falkland Islands, or literally stealing their money after the Swiss put a pause on advanced payments for missile systems that were going to be delayed for 4-5 years?

I wish we had leaders who understood the value of soft power.

Oh well, guess we’ve blown up nearly a century of diplomacy to placate some narcissists.

lovich··on DHS is using obscure law to snoop on journalists, non-profits, unions
So that also requires all judges who a case could be brought to about this, declaring that they don’t have jurisdiction. It’s still a choice made by the judges.

Granted someone does have to actually file a suit

lovich··on DHS is using obscure law to snoop on journalists, non-profits, unions
It also requires a judge who is willing to interpret the rule the way you want. Law doesn’t execute deterministically like code does.
lovich··on Our decision on Cursor following its acquisition by SpaceX
I’m on team fuck both of these organizations, but not continuing to work with an organization that already willing violated contracts you had with them doesn’t exactly seem like a hard to justify decision.

That is to say, this isn’t a fig leaf imo.

The Jungle by Upton Sinclair was woke nonsense that’s being rightfully combated by common sense now.

Anyone complaining about all the food safety issues popping up actually hates capitalism and shouldn’t be allowed to participate in government. This is just capitalism at work and the market will sort out who is or is not willing to pay less for chronic diarrhea vs those willing to pay a premium for clean food.

Don’t take away the people’s choice in how much diarrhea they want.

lovich··on EPA says power for data centers can sidestep pollution laws
Is there a word for this behavior where a politician wins by the slimmest of margins in a first past the post election and then spins it as a mandate from The People instead of an incredibly tight split?
lovich··on Software engineering is about managing complexity
Do most companies even allow that kind of engineering to occur?

Prefacing that I’ve never worked at a faang. At more than half the companies I’ve worked out most of those decisions were made by non technical leadership for non technical reasons. Ranging from the reasonable(our predecessors signed a deal with Oracle a decade ago and violating it will cost us more than this project is worth) to the unreasonable(I had lunch paid for by this vendor so we’re using them now).

I also frequently ran into the problem of the process of doing that level of engineering requiring the business to make choices and being completely incapable of it. I could give 3-4 different plans with explicit tradeoffs, both in detail and with an executive summary, and what they meant for the company and even that low number of choices induced analysis paralysis in the management but they barred me from doing anything until they made the call.

lovich··on US Government designates host of noblogs.org a "global terrorist"
How many illegal immigrants do you think are in the United States? You can round to the million.
lovich··on US Government designates host of noblogs.org a "global terrorist"
I think it’s funny that he said

> Don't conflate immigrants with illegal immigrants first off.

When that entirely what MAGA is doing. I always wondered how they had these numbers for supposedly illegal immigrants and everytime I look into it the number conveniently lines up with the legal immigrants and legal asylum seekers.

Or that time Loomer said the alligators at Alligator Alcatraz were getting 65 million meals which is conveniently the Hispanic population in the US.

These people think that just because they don’t like these other people, those other people are here illegally, and then they claim they get no due process either.

They were literally in cahoots to keep wages down, you can’t hand wave it away as nonsense when it’s factually occurred.

You do have bad actors amongst labor but everytime labor tries to coordinate together the union crushing apparatus comes out so you don’t tend to see as much coordinated bad activity.

And with AI we’re not seeing companies chomping at the bit to make all their employees more productive left and right, we’re seeing them chomping at the bit to see how many employees they can cut
