loukrazy··on Google's censored Chinese search engine: a catalogue of ethical violations?
If Google employees are pushing back projects with the US govt I can’t imagine this will sit well at all
loukrazy··on Compulsory Licensing of Backroom IT?
Isn’t public IaaS and PaaS exactly what he is talking about? Amazon, Google, Microsoft selling the exact software and infrastructure they use to operate at scale. So maybe regulated prices for Cloud services? But they already seem pretty low because of competition.

Access to massive data is the real value that these companies have exclusive access to, not IT infrastructure

loukrazy··on Is WebAssembly the Return of Java Applets and Flash?
How is threading or cross thread shared memory a security risk?
loukrazy··on Is WebAssembly the Return of Java Applets and Flash?
How the hell do you retain any accessibility when rendering a custom UI in Canvas?
loukrazy··on What Went Wrong with the F-35, Lockheed Martin's Joint Strike Fighter? (2017)
Is there some reason why there are so many F35 articles on HN recently? Is there an anniversary coming up or an appropriations bill? Is someone shorting Lockheed Martin?
loukrazy··on Useless design features in modern products
Those “watch” pockets in jeans are great for holding rings.
loukrazy··on How Seattle Got More People to Ride the Bus
For some commutes in Seattle the bus is way faster than trying to drive out of downtown. The bus tunnel is pretty fantastic.
loukrazy··on Ask HN: CS, Maths or some other degree for an experienced dev?
If you must, do statistics, machine learning, or "data science". If you are already an experienced dev, a CS or Math degree is not going to give you anything that you dont already have.
loukrazy··on The LaTeX Fetish (2016)
I think many academics write in LaTeX because it is easier to switch between document formatting styles. If you submit to multiple journals that all have their own poorly made Word 2007 templates, even the pain of LaTeX is not so bad.
loukrazy··on Ghost Pepper Rips Hole in SF Man's Esophagus, Collapses His Lung (2016)
It happened in SF
loukrazy··on IBM, a Pioneer of Remote Work, Calls Workers Back to the Office
Former IBM engineer here, can confirm this has been happening for many job roles over the last year in many divisions
loukrazy··on IBM, a Pioneer of Remote Work, Calls Workers Back to the Office
They do not offer COL adjustment. Also no guarantees that you will not have to subsequently relocate to another location
loukrazy··on Why I Don't Prepare for Job Interviews
I feel like part of preparing candidates for interviews is so that they feel calmer during the interview and know what to expect. I doubt you get a very clear picture of someone's capabilities in a short interview if they freeze up from stress.
loukrazy··on Pattern Matching for Java
ITT at least 3 JavaScript libraries to do this.

Also how the heck do you destructure Java objects with private fields without resorting to bean accessors?

loukrazy··on Dutch Winter Baby Syndrome
Wow, that was interesting until it got to "the political elite". Can I flag just the second half of this article?
loukrazy··on Why the sun shines for Oracle and it’s Cloudy for others
The only thing I learned from this post is that there are people who like Oracle and want to use them more.
loukrazy··on [dead]
Was this originally written in English? I can hardly make sense of this article.
loukrazy··on Finding an Alternative to Mac OS X
It seems to take a few releases longer for new features to move from Fedora to RHEL, but RHEL 7 is pretty current. That stability is great though, you can stay on one version of RHEL for a very long time and still get patch support, especially since major upgrades are so traumatic on most Linux distributions (RHEL included)
loukrazy··on Chinese smiths forge a large flange on the street [video]
holy cow that open fire was smoking like hell. No wonder Beijing is a smoggy mess with production like this happening.
loukrazy··on The Perfect Weapon: How Russian Cyberpower Invaded the U.S
Why do news outlets insist on calling everything Cyber-xyz. This is Information warfare aided by technical tools. It's not the hacking that is the weapon but how and where you release the information gained by those tools.
loukrazy··on Ask HN: Remote workers, what headphone/mic combo do you use for video calls?
As others have said, Bluetooth headsets are generally bad for consistent quality in my experience. I tend towards a wired gaming headset (turtle Beach) with a long cable just because it is simple and works with my phone or laptop. Of course most of the quality is dependent on the conferencing solutions your company uses.
loukrazy··on Does Google's Hiring Process Put Off Talented Applicants?
I interviewed with Google. While waiting for a response from my on-site interview I interviewed with another company and received an offer. I did not end up receiving an offer from Google but it did not make a difference as I already accepted the other job. It took Google almost a month after the on-site to get through their various levels of review.
loukrazy··on Why Don't Computer Scientists Learn Math?
You figured out how to compile JavaScript?
loukrazy··on How Half of America Lost Its F***ing Mind
Yeah, even if (especially if) Trump loses, this is just going to get more intense and not go away.
loukrazy··on Yarn – A new package manager for JavaScript
Tell that to my google searches
loukrazy··on Examining crime reports in San Francisco with SQL
Alternately you could have your SQL cake and eat it too using any SQL where you can define custom functions, such as in SparkSQL
loukrazy··on The Unicorn Hedge – There's a bubble but it's not in tech
The styling on this article hurts my eyes. It feels like the author is shouting at me
loukrazy··on How Millennials Became Spooked by Credit Cards
Given the option for zero interest payments on things like appliances and computers, why would you use a credit card for those?
loukrazy··on Albuquerque program hires panhandlers to work in maintenance jobs
Thank you. Hopefully Facebook's changes will put a dent in these click bait headlines
loukrazy··on [dead]
Interesting to see the Bible viewed from someone with a Marxist / secularist upbringing. Growing up in the USA most people had a view of the Bible ranging from positive to unquestioning literalism.
