louislouis··on How can the military or government employ the wisdom of crowds?
Create an electronic/internet based voting system? Let the crowds vote on issues and bypass congress/lobbying/corruption :) If only....
louislouis··on The Party's Over: China's Endgame
His book 'The Coming Collapse of China' was published in 2001. That's almost 10 years ago and he's still chanting doom n gloom. Perhaps when he says 'The Coming' he means sometime in the next 150 years. Who knows.
louislouis··on Hacker Monthly, a printed magazine version of Hacker News.
Great idea. Now I can catchup on HN without being on here everyday. My productivity is sure to rise.
louislouis··on Ask HN: Would you use a cord bank?
How much was it?
louislouis··on A life lesson from the majors: Smile, you'll live longer
I've been using a mood hack recently which has been working great for me. It might work for you too but no gurantees as everyone is different. So the hack goes like this. Whenever you're feeling down or not particularly cheerful, force your face into a smile, a really big one and hold it for 30 seconds. Really tense up your facial muscles like you're flexing your bicep, but on your face. Empty your mind of all negative thoughts. At some point during the 30 second hold, you'll feel a little happier. The muscles will trigger a release of neurotransmitters like serotonin and other happy chemicals.

What's an ipad? :p
louislouis··on The best Present and Future alternatives to the iPad
The iPad and other tablets will always be made a specification lower than a laptop. Why? So consumers spend more $$ buying the full range of products on the line.
louislouis··on Robotic fish powered by fuel cell consumes ~10mW
checkout the solar window glass video in the same playlist: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXSPaNpYMLA&feature=Serie...
louislouis··on For Google, a Risky Ploy by Turning Its Back on China
Deals are of course going to be canceled voluntarily. If you're a mobile company why would you ship your products with a search engine that's dropping its service in your country? Not to mention the bad publicity the Google brand is now incurring in China. It's the same reason why endorsements/sponsorships/contracts are dropped when people like Tiger Woods and Kate Moss screw up. It's bad image.
louislouis··on Google, don't politicalize yourself — China's official news agency
"we intend to continue R&D work in China and also to maintain a sales presence there"

Doesn't sound like they're leaving to me. If they were to leave properly they would shut down all operations and 404 the .cn domain. Instead they've just redirected and uncensored their services. To me thats just more drama, another move on the chessboard.

louislouis··on Google, don't politicalize yourself — China's official news agency
"no matter in which country you conduct business, you have to obey the laws and regulations there."

Quoted for truth.

louislouis··on Milgram experiment redone: crowd "tortures" man on fake TV show
"They say they simply wanted to see if we would go so far as to kill someone for entertainment."

The ancient greeks built the Colosseum for this kind of entertainment. So it's not surprising really.

louislouis··on Show HN: I finally released that sheet music app I keep yammering about
Now I want to learn the piano just to play with this app.
louislouis··on London-based start-up allows anyone to print their own newspaper.
My thoughts exactly. If they supplied the same distribution channels as existing newspapers then it would be worth so much more. I can see Failblog or IcanHazCheeze having their own daily paper. It certainly would be more entertaining than the negative depressing headlines of regular newspapers.
louislouis··on Your international web app gets ethnicity wrong
Solution : Let's users add their own ethnicity or select from list of other user added ethnicities.
louislouis··on Ask HN: Fastest way to make $300-400 a month online?
Interesting. I've been considering a digital nomad lifestyle for a few months now. Watching your video has just given me another nudge.

A few questions. Your Reliance Wireless Broadband stick.. What speeds can you get upto on it? Can you stream youtube videos smoothly?

About your 4hww model. If you're outsourcing all your writing, editing, seo marketing.. does that leave any profits left for you?

louislouis··on How a New Jobless Era Will Transform America
Programming jobs are not unlimited. There's just a big demand for programmers and lack of supply. If every wannabe musician/artist/celebrity wanted to be a coder we'd certainly feel the strain.
louislouis··on Points For Toothbrushing: The Gaming Speech Everyone Is Talking About
lol oops, guess I missed them posts.
louislouis··on Points For Toothbrushing: The Gaming Speech Everyone Is Talking About
I thought it was a really good video and other HNers should see it. The 2 day old post only had 2 points and would never have gotten any more traction.
louislouis··on PiCloud : Cloud Computing. Simplified.
All programming languages should have a quick reference page exactly like this. It would make learning and working with them so much easier.
louislouis··on Points For Toothbrushing: The Gaming Speech Everyone Is Talking About
You know, when I tried to post this earlier it referred me back to your post from 2 days ago. I was gona comment on it with something like 'oh shame this didn't make frontpage HN cos its really good'. Instead I resubmitted and bypassed the url-duplication filter by adding www to it.
louislouis··on Reading Online
Very nice. Now where's the free web app to cut paste and convert into this format?
louislouis··on Can you trust Chinese computer equipment?
I am truly psychic! http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1095965
louislouis··on China Internet Network Information Center accepted as a Mozilla root CA
Quite a lot of drama involving China in recent weeks. I wonder what's next? Chinese made laptops contains trojans? Chinese made iPhones contain spy chips? Chinese made clothes stitched with wiretapping chips?
louislouis··on Live from the Apple 'latest creation' event
Not many techies getting wowed by this but the question is will it sell? I think it will. Infact I think Apple has possibly opened a market for non-tech savy people like mums, dads and grans who find basic things like email and internet trivial.
louislouis··on PHP functions you (probably) never use
Wish I knew about debug_print_backtrace() earlier. It could've saved me so much time debugging other peoples scripts!
louislouis··on What boyfriends and girlfriends search for on Google
wow, the unborn baby one is just wrong.
louislouis··on The Silver Thief: a smart burglar who perfected his craft
Amazing story. No doubt this will be a movie for sure!
louislouis··on Eye Contact
I did this for the first time a few months ago and it was incredible. It made me more confident and especially during conversations where I'm able to hold someones gaze while talking. It's also quite powerful when you do this with a member of the opposite sex with a sly smile on your face. These days whenever I'm out I'll be scanning hungrily for anyone to make eye contact with me. I've had stare down battles with people on the tube, a game of first one to look away loses. Battles can last between 5-10 seconds.
louislouis··on Uncommon - Custom design your own iPhone case
Cool, so they kinda snap onto the back. How thick are the cases?
