louischatriot··on Node.js Frameworks Comparison
Cached version: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:PKds6Tk...
louischatriot··on TL;DR — Faster News
It is in fact pretty hard :) We are working on content summarization too, with a Chrome extension that lets you read a human written summary of Hacker News frontpage links. Writing the summaries and making sure you're up to date takes time. You need to make sure you stick to the author's point of view, that you really understand the article in depth and groked the key points. Of course it depends on the article you summarize but I can spend a good 30 minutes on one article by Paul Graham or Mark Suster.

PS: the chrome extension I'm talking about is here: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/tldr/ohmamcbkcmfal... (same one czzarr is referring to)

louischatriot··on The Oatmeal sued over trademark by ‘Oatmeal Studios’
For once, a patent/trademark lawsuit that doesn't smell like bullshit. I hope it is resolved amicably (I think it will).
louischatriot··on Why won't anyone talk to me? What recruiters look for in a resume
Very sound advice. Having been to a top school is indeed important (even though not necessary). A while ago, I was offered a very well paid freelance gig just because I went to a French top engineering school. I didn't know anything about the technologies I had to use but they didn't give a damn.

Of course not everyone thinks like that, but it's puzzling that some people actually do.

louischatriot··on Entrepreneurshit? Please.
Don't really see what the point of the article is. Some entrepreneurs build try to build small/medium, moderately risky businesses, and that's fine. Some try to shoor for the stars, high risk/high return. That's fine too.
louischatriot··on UK'S shadow Internet minister says she is "particularly stupid"
Reminds me of Christine Albanel, former French Minister for Culture, talking about the "openoffice firewall". There is something fundamentally broken in our democracies, in that politicians are not appointed on the basis of skill/experience in a domain but on the basis of their importance within the party.

There are of course exceptions, but I observed that the less important a field is (and politicians view the Internet as NOT important), the more true this is.

louischatriot··on How to Stay Relevant as a Web Developer
I don't think that contradicts the OP's position. Indeed learning a new framework's opinion is not exciting, but learning some "hard" CS is fun. For example I was a Ruby on Rails/GRails guy and I took up nodejs 8 months ago. That's a big - and fun - change.
louischatriot··on Animated Factorisation Diagrams
Wow. Really impressed, I got stuck on it for a good 5 minutes !
louischatriot··on CodernityDB — pure Python, NoSQL, fast database
Interesting, but I'd like to see how this compares to other NoSQL such as MongoDB.
louischatriot··on OOP Isn't a Fundamental Particle of Computing
I think it comes down to discipline. We're using javascript (on both frontend and backend) which is not very strict, but we don't have that many "wtf is that kind of object doing here?" moments, and none after tests pass.
louischatriot··on [dead]
OK, just found the bug and fixed it. The fix should be deployed within 2 minutes, thanks for telling us!
louischatriot··on [dead]
You're right, the URL in the email was wrong and I just corrected that (I put a redirection from /extension to /chromeextension).

About the button not working, that's weird. Does it give you any kind of feedback?

louischatriot··on Show HN: Read summaries of Hacker News links without leaving the front page
Indeed, we have this chicken and egg problem. That's why we are focusing on the HN community for now: it is feasible to be quite up to date for the frontpage, even with just the three of us! But as you said, we are actively trying to find contributors.

For now we are not giving automated summaries because we obeserved that people tend not to edit summaries even if they are automatic and hence of lower quality. What is your experience on this?

Thanks for the feedback!

louischatriot··on Anatomy of an Attack: How I Hacked StackOverflow
Here is a tldr I made: http://tldr.io/tldrs/50a1ff3dfb4525d44c00003e
louischatriot··on Wingman: Git + GitHub + OS X
The page what this brings me on top of Git+Github. Is it just a GUI around Git to avoid having to learn the ~5 everyday commands?
louischatriot··on What is a music player?
Very interesting explanation, I knew playing media files wasn't a trivial task but didn't imagine there was so much going on behind the scenes.
louischatriot··on Bountify – Crowdsource small coding tasks
Looks pretty cool, I can definitely imagine outsourcing some easy-but-long tasks. I think that you should not aim at becomming "stack overflow with bounties" but a real marketplace, so the "do it for fun and a few beer bucks" tasks should be pruned.
louischatriot··on Why Google Went Offline Today and a Bit about How the Internet Works
Very interesting explanation, thank you.
louischatriot··on Over-specialization is the curse of our profession
Also, I think working only on backend or only or frontend is kinda boring. I like to tackle the whole thing.
louischatriot··on Nonsense Accusations of Spaghetti Code Considered Harmful
The author of "Escape from callback hell" goes indeed too far. This is of course a matter of opinion, but I found that 3 levels of nesting (in javascript for nodejs) is usually perfectly acceptable and readable. If there are more than 3, I use async to get a nice, linear looking flow.
louischatriot··on A Slower Speed of Light
What a great idea. The "rainbow colors everywhere" effect if kinda annoying, but the concept is awesome. As they say, that's what I would expect from the MIT Games Lab.
louischatriot··on L'Aquila quake: Italy scientists found guilty of manslaughter
I can't find words strong enough to say how stupid this is. As wisty said, the good way is to build quake-proof buildings. Of course, that means fighting the Mafia which controls construction work in this part of the country, which takes more guts than judging 6 scientists.
louischatriot··on Handy bookmarklet to display JSON nicely in the browser
Note: the code is really crude but it does work on Chrome and FF.
louischatriot··on Show HN: From an idea to the Valley in less than a month
I agree with this. I don't like the way we always need to have an excuse for not answering the phone. Sometimes it is because I'm busy coding. Some other times I may just not feel like answering the phone, and I think that's fine too. I'll call you back eventually, don't worry.

As John says, no criticism of the app itself, rather a rant about the you-should-be-available-everywhere-and-anytime mentality!

louischatriot··on Never Give Your Information To 10 Minute Old Startups
I really don't think it has anything to do with the startup being 10 minutes old. That's security 101 we're talking about ...
louischatriot··on Why Trifacta is teaching humans and data to work together
That's a very interesting problem Trifacta is trying to solve, I could have used it in my former job!

The article itself is a bit long, so I made a summary: http://api.tldr.io/tldrs/506d8f1a78b3cba85f000477

louischatriot··on Show HN: Summaries of interesting content, written by people
Yep, that is definitely planned. Especially a karma-like system to reward users who work. Since you're helping people by providing tldrs, we are thinking about the count of people who read tldrs you created, meaning the number of people you helped.
louischatriot··on Stop Pagination Now
I found this article interesting (it really resonates with me), although a bit long. I made a tldr of it: http://api.tldr.io/tldrs/506c34f3657e0ad75500014c
louischatriot··on Show HN: Summaries of interesting content, written by people
Ha ha that would be great indeed. Maybe the next evolution of the Google glass ?
louischatriot··on Show HN: Summaries of interesting content, written by people
Thanks we worked a lot on the bookmarklet tutorial :)

You're completely right, the real challenge starts now, we need to find a way to get humans to contribute, because right now you have too much probability of getting a "summary not created yet" message when clicking on the bookmarklet. We already have some ideas we want to explore, if you do have some please tell us it would help a lot!
