lordkirchner··on Princeton ‘AI Snake Oil’ authors say GenAI hype has ‘spiraled out of control’
All I ever wanted was a way to short NFTs
lordkirchner··on Managing difficult software engineers
There's lots of people out there who are at higher than national average in places that have a cost of living 3x+ the national average, who have exceptional expenses like caring for a special needs child or a sick relative, and/or have childcare costs that folks in lower COLA places often have covered by parents or by a stay-at-home parent.

Collectively we can stop acting like every SSE in America is sipping champagne and eating caviar every day, because they really aren't.

lordkirchner··on How many people have ever lived on Earth?
It’s a catchy structure/fact that people use for many true things that reenforce misremembering false things. For example there have been many articles recently that more scientists are alive now than in all of history, which is probably true.

lordkirchner··on When the facts change, I change my mind. What do you do?
A humbling exercise for anyone is, for any given belief, writing down specifically what inputs and logic lead to that belief, and specifically what inputs and logic would lead to changing that belief.

Almost everyone would find that almost all of their beliefs are based on very flimsy input/logic, and the bar for changing that belief is unfairly and wildly asymmetric.

lordkirchner··on It's weird that people get mocked for changing their minds
I don’t think it’s uncommon to believe the person who started with the right answer is smarter, or wiser than the person who had to work to get there. However, many people land in the right answer right away by chance. If we valued finding the truth over being right, people would more often admit they had the right answer by simply guessing or because they followed their tribe.
