loloquwowndueo··on Flatpak Will Depend on Systemd
Luckily “Linux desktop” is not a single thing. There are many options to choose from. I’d dial the FUD down just a bit.
loloquwowndueo··on Flatpak Will Depend on Systemd
That’s it. I’m ditching flatpak for snaps.

Just kidding!

I’m not devops.
loloquwowndueo··on Anthropic Cofounder Chris Olah's Remarks on Pope Leo XIV's "Magnifica Humanitas"
> The only thing that makes Ai the opportunity of the millennium is its power to empower us to render Pope and CEO alike irrelevant.

All OpenAI, Google, Anthropic need to do is flip a switch and your AI and your “power” are gone. Or worse, they start making you think what their actual owners want you to think.

loloquwowndueo··on Magnifica Humanitas
Well because it’s Latin America, not the US, the vast majority of people are at least bilingual anyway :)
loloquwowndueo··on I love my Bluetooth keyboard
Sounds a lot like my keychron k3 pro.
loloquwowndueo··on I love my Bluetooth keyboard
Don’t look at them. Touch typing is the only true way.
loloquwowndueo··on I love my Bluetooth keyboard
Logitech k380- small and flat for packability, not too expensive, reasonably good to type on. It’s no mechanical keyboard though.

loloquwowndueo··on Show HN: Git-based front-end interface for Hugo
You could have told your LLM to NOT use node/js/npm and made the thing far more secure from day one. Npm is a security nightmare.

Also you say it’s git-based but it depends on GitHub. GitHub is not git. What if I want to use another git forge or god forbid a local repo?

I have a similar thing but it doesn’t assume GitHub and is coded in Python (by hand, it’s like 100 lines of Python and flask). Serves my needs! Simple and dumb.

loloquwowndueo··on Microsoft starts canceling Claude Code licenses
> They are worth multiples of trillion dollars so I would wager they know a little more about success than you and me.

Hahahaha. Are you saying that if we did what they do we’d be successful? Because I’m perfectly happy to be where I am if it means I’m nothing, nothing at all like Microsoft.

Dogfooding only works if it actually helps improve the product. zune never improved. Dogfooding without improving is just eating dog food for no good reason.
loloquwowndueo··on Microsoft starts canceling Claude Code licenses
Reminds me of when Steve Ballmer forbade his children to use iPods and pushed towards the Zune instead. Hahaha
loloquwowndueo··on Don't just paste the AI at me
No. 1 has been around since the dawn of time. Remember the saying, there are no stupid questions. Asking is how people learn, including learning how to ask good questions. #2 is just rude because everyone has access to the same AIs. You’re not doing anyone a favor or being helpful - if they wanted to ask AI, they would have. And what do you learn from an AI response?
loloquwowndueo··on GitHub confirms breach of 3,800 repos via malicious VSCode extension
Well the vacuum cleaner joke is very old, was true then, is true now, has continued to be true despite some people having the wool pulled over their eyes and thinking that Microsoft was no longer the enemy at some point. They have always been the enemy. Stay on your toes, don’t let them in.

The myth that frogs stay in water until boiled has been debunked with actual frogs - at some point they just jump out.

Vs code is a weapon, designed to fracture. It being “good” is a weapon as well. https://ghuntley.com/fracture/
loloquwowndueo··on GitHub confirms breach of 3,800 repos via malicious VSCode extension
Everything Microsoft makes sucks. If they decided to make vacuum cleaners though, they wouldn’t suck, they would blow.
loloquwowndueo··on Google changes its search box
Nah. Pretty sure he was using a personal card - corporate finance dept would likely better track where each card is being used and their expiration dates to avoid this happening. Also this better tracks with the rest of his sloppy behavior.
loloquwowndueo··on Google changes its search box
There are other ways to block robots from crawling our sites. I have a robots.txt but place no faith in it, it’s just there because it’s cheap and does stop some of the crawlers.
loloquwowndueo··on Google changes its search box
Sounds like a pretty ineffective manager: wasn’t buying the correct ad placement in the first place, used a personal card to sign up for an ostensibly corporate service, didn’t keep track of expiration dates for the card, and was also ignoring email notifications from Google about the expired card. Let me know if I’m missing any other reasons why this manager should be fired instantly.
loloquwowndueo··on Google changes its search box for the first time in 25 years
They did mean the shape. It’s bigger because people type longer, natural language questions instead of the targeted sets of search terms from yore.

loloquwowndueo··on OpenAI and Government of Malta partner to roll out ChatGPT Plus to all citizens
Huh?

Here is how platforms die: first, they are good to their users; then they abuse their users to make things better for their business customers; finally, they abuse those business customers to claw back all the value for themselves. Then, they die.

This is at the “good to their users” phase - giving free access to an otherwise non-free product is being good to them, right?
