loloquwowndueo··on Siri AI
I’m mad at Apple for dropping the ball with the sloppy mess that is iOS 26. I trust they’ll see the light and fix it. Miles of difference with Microsoft - I’d sooner renounce computers entirely and quit my job than be in a position where I have to use Microsoft stuff regularly.
loloquwowndueo··on Siri AI
Sounds good, where’s the “just kill this” toggle in my iPhone settings? I ain’t gonna bother with mdm etc etc I just need the damn thing to work and do what I need.
loloquwowndueo··on Siri AI
No worries I would never touch anything Microsoft with a 10-foot pole.
loloquwowndueo··on Siri AI
Fixing the shit show that iOS 26 is and making it so my shiny new iPhone 17 doesn’t visibly struggle rendering simple ui elements should be considered table stakes for iOS 27, I wouldn’t expect them to mention that too much as it’s like the bare minimum we expect for the update.
loloquwowndueo··on AI is slowing down
So I open this page and the first line of the article should be the last, right?

Ok let me read the thing so I can make up my mind… start scrolling down and get slapped by some subscribe pop up.

That’s where I decided to just cut my losses and go do something else.

loloquwowndueo··on Ask HN: Why hasn't there been a real competitor to Ticketmaster yet?
Stadiums are still going to be full, that’s why it will keep happening.

People voting with their wallets goes both ways.

Oh I’m definitely not going to use it. But apple tends to try to put these things in your face and get you to use them (seen all those purple buttons in Pages lately?). A global “just don’t show me or try to get me to use this crap at all” switch would be very welcome. Bonus if it also frees up however many GB of space this garbage will take whether I use it or not.
loloquwowndueo··on Siri AI
The only thing I want to know about this new Siri is how to turn it entirely off.

> I cannot name a single Mexican team, and that is partly because the oldest club dates back to the 1940s.

Teams like Atlante and América were founded in 1916.

What I usually do when in doubt is challenge the AI. “Please quote the section of regulation the product is non compliant with”. It usually admits it hallucinated the whole thing.
loloquwowndueo··on Meta confirms 1000s of Instagram accounts were hacked by abusing its AI chatbot
This was on hacker news a few days ago (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=48359102) - description of the “hack”, not the cockamamie confirmation by Meta.

This. I hate dark mode because it’s difficult to read for me (myopia due to age) - the glowing letters on dark background get much blurrier for some reason.

Most people who like dark mode use it so they can be in a dimly lit room and not have the display blast their eyes with light but I’ve found that under low ambient light my vision is far blurrier - a well lit room complemented by light mode (ie natural, default) display is the easiest to read.

“Por qué” not “porque”. One means “why” the other “because”.

Thanks but I won’t. My dentist is fine otherwise, I can say “no”, they’re ok with me saying “no”.

We get along great and I find that’s both hard to find and super important - no better way of putting off dentist visits than having a dentist you dread seeing every 6 months.

loloquwowndueo··on Ultra-processed foods in the global food system: The role of tobacco companies
> usually these measures are only done if truly needed — at least in Europe?

I’m not in Europe :)

Nah my dude, my dentist peddles all sorts of ridiculous unnecessary treatments. Invisalign? I’m 50, I don’t give a shit about how my teeth look, just want them not to fall off all at once. Invisalign is a subscription for your teeth. No thanks.

I stay with this dentist because they are friendly, technically competent and a 5-minute walk from home. Literally the only downside is the FUD to get me to go for those treatments but it’s just steeling myself to say “no thanks” every 6 months.

loloquwowndueo··on Ultra-processed foods in the global food system: The role of tobacco companies
My dentist has been peddling this procedure to me for years. It sounds incredibly invasive and painful and they don’t even promise it’ll cover 100% of the recession, nor that it won’t recede again unless one goes for an even more invasive jaw realignment which involves, I shit you not, intentionally fracturing the palate bone to make more space to align the teeth.

That was the “let me stop you right there” moment.

(Not even going into how much these horrendous procedures cost!)

Right. Also, if there’s any social pressure to watch a new movie as it’s in theatres whatever, said pressure likely comes from people one knows, so still no need to expose yourself to ads to step in the loop.
loloquwowndueo··on I'm So Tired of Ads
If that’s how you found out, you didn’t miss out on much, did you? You watch it, and that’s it.

Canonical spends a lot of money and effort to “scrub” negative reviews from glassdoor. At a minimum they reply to, and dismiss, concerns raised there but I recall mentions of ways to outright have some bad reviews deleted. Source: I worked there.
