climate change believers really are just an apocalyptic cult at this point. it defies reality
there are many other, actual issues that should be addressed. housing shortages, mass illegal immigration, inflation, geriatric politicians, corruption, education, environmental protection from chemicals and other toxins, deforestation, pollution in general etc etc
climate change isn't even close to whats important. but because it has had no actual effects, and the real effects are a century away, its easy for people to posture without committing to an actual solution. there are other issues that should be addressed that people are forgetting about. its a joke
at worst its offensive to the person because it suggests they were so small minded that they didn't or couldn't actually develop the technology to a sufficient enough degree such that they are actually associated with it. these people are hidden not because they're women, but because they didn't really contribute anything at all to the field
> They are shamelessly moralistic, written on the basis of exhaustive literary theory, linguistics, geography and world-building, and quite devoid of social commentary or Empsonian irony
yes, because it was a heavily catholic work.
> This mythology, he felt, must “reflect and contain in solution elements of moral and religious truth” but must lack all explicit reference to the Christian religion or the “real” world as we know it
This is especially true though and undersold. Tolkien's catholicism had an immeasurable impact on his writing and LOTR. he wrote: "[LOTR was a] fundamentally religious and Catholic work; unconsciously so at first, but consciously in the revision. That is why I have not put in, or have cut out, practically all references to anything like ‘religion’, to cults or practices, in the imaginary world. For the religious element is absorbed into the story and the symbolism."
his works are absolutely beautiful.
its easy to say "oh yea the US has these problems too" but it is 1000x worse in China, and its extremely privileged to even try and say its the same as in the US. The cultures are so incredibly different in every single way.
He has an interesting interpretation of g-d and it is understandable the friction this caused given the religious nature of Europe during the 1600s and the desire for the Jewish community be preserved. Given it was a Sephardic synagogue and this is only a hundred or so years after the Alhambra decree which forced Jews out of Spain lest they convert to catholicism. Portugal did the same, but did not allow Jews to escape so they either converted or were executed. Persecution against Jews continued in the Iberian peninsula for hundreds of years. As such, preservation of the Jewish community and way of life was extremely important.
I buy that people they spoke to "think" about it, like people saying they were going to leave the US when trump was elected but no mass exodus occurred. it feels like pure fear mongering with people "thinking" or "considering", since that means nothing. The US isn't falling or dying, and even if it was its worth saving rather than running away. they're even spouting misinformation like the USG is preventing people from revoking citizenship because they dont want people to leave, despite the reason this was occuring was because of COVID regulations.
The US is the greatest country in the world, bar none. It has a lot to improve upon and these intelligent people should try their hardest to improve it. this article is anti-american at best and is abundant with conspiracy theories to the point it is noncredible.
when social media, and media as a whole, fuels "america bad" rhetoric and with russian propaganda of "american imperialism" combined with no active conflicts where the US is threatened, its no surprise.
but I don't think its about people not supporting state-sanctioned violence, because many support US assistance to ukraine and other allies and understand the defensive nature of it.
likely it was just the incompetance of afghanistan and iraq occupation that messed people up. the gulf war was a massive success, at home and for kuwait (sans gulf war syndrome due to iraqi chemical weapons). when we are pushed into another conflict, OPTEMPO increases, we are united against a common enemy, confidence will increase.
so the argument is correct, in that they are more expensive? so they should make cheaper, smaller electric cars would be the logical next step. electric cars at this point are a luxury item, and saying people cant afford luxury items because they aren't being paid enough is _technically true_ but that is misleading.
maybe they should start blaming poor fiscal policy of the federal government given the govt is meant to look after its people, not automanufacturers.
TBH its funny when people bring up american propaganda anyway. US media outlets are so overly critical of america, to the point it borders on anti-american propaganda
Take a look at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Motor_Vehicle_Safety_S...
You'd think if people are so scared about AI being apocalyptic it would have some strict regulation similar to vehicle standards but its not even close, nor is it in the conversation at all. Its just pure fear from science fiction and the govt putting out performative press releases. What the fuck even is "AI" anyway? it means different things to different people. It could mean a self checkout at a supermarket, or a bank's AML, or some super intelligence. there are basically no standard definitions of anything to do with "AI" anywhere and every single piece of regulation is equally as vague. Companies like having it be a vague term because its marketing so the actual experts don't care about changing it
Why would this information be relevant in modern coverage of Oppenheimer and Teller? They weren't atomic spies selling secrets to an enemy state? The USSR was obviously not equivalent to Israel given the US was the first country to even recognize Israel. Post-WW2 the world was fractured into the eastern and western blocs, and obviously the USSR was the enemy. So I don't see your point
Finally, Israel's nuclear weapons policy is drastically different to that of the US or the then-USSR. The purpose is entirely defensive as Israel is a small country surrounded by majority-Muslim countries which have invaded Israel several times; Israel cannot afford to lose a war as this threatens the very existence of Jews. The US and USSR had very different, intentionally antagonistic policies with the exact opposite of deliberate ambiguity.
> The Rainbow Serpent came from beneath the ground and created huge ridges, mountains, and gorges as it pushed upward. The Rainbow Serpent is understood to be of immense proportions and inhabits deep permanent waterholes and is in control of life's most precious resource, water. In some cultures, the Rainbow Serpent is considered to be the ultimate creator of everything in the universe
contrary to what many say, space exploration is pretty useless. the most barren, remote part of earth is more interesting biologically, geographically, scientifically, and historically than any part of our solar system or the nearest solar systems. even if 99% of life on earth was wiped out by a catastrophic event, it would still be more livable than any planet or moon in our solar system. there are no novel elements or materials on other moons or planets that earth doesn't already have in abundance, and if a civilization was established on mars it would take at least a century, more like 2, for it to have any exports; it would be purely an import economy 100% reliant on earth. its a great jobs program and its pretty cool, but it isn't even close to helpful for pretty much anybody on earth except a few dozen.
that being said, agree 100%. so many things could be solved easily if things were streamlined, which is a good thing about authoritarianism. FDR pushed through the new deal and so much because he had supreme power over the executive branch, dems controlled both houses, and he packed the courts in his favor to prevent opposition. the most authoritarian president by a mile, but ushured in incredible change that was absolutely required to get past the great depression. obviously this was supported by the new deal coalition which would be difficult to construct nowadays because both sides disenfranchise large parts of the other. unity is required, but neither party wants it, so its split and nothing gets done. eventually something will break the camel's back and it'll shift, but until then everything will kinda suck
Ghidra is nice, but being FOSS it will always be slightly worse then paid. It's fantastic for free, but not perfect. If reversing is part time/once a month/once every few months then its probably the best choice. Used it for a few years professionally.
binja is my favorite and been using it for the last year or so. just an absolute pleasure to use and collaborate with. IMO the best of all these tools. vector35 are great to work with as well. plugin development is real nice too
IDA pro is the worst. hexrays are plain awful to work with and its so overpriced.
hopper haven't tried, but seems good. mac only though
r2 is interesting. great if you only have a headless connection, but difficult. Learning curve is tough, and payoff isn't necessarily there. an alternative to ghidra if you want free but want to feel more l33t
I mean advertisements already are basically brainwashing right? quirky jingles or catch phrases associated with some food or product, that stick in your head.
